“Great Location shame about the football”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2010

My wife and I stayed at the Clansman on Saturday 26th / Sunday 27th June. We found the staff to be very friendly in the bar area and restaurant. Both nights we ate in the restaurant and found the food to be varied and cooked to a high standard. Service was quick possibly a bit quick but this might have been down to the fact that it was not over full.
The rooms were more that adequate however we booked a room with a Loch view which was outstand but being on the ground floor we could not take advantage of this as we had to keep the net curtains closed due to outside table for bar being right outside window. Room was clean and despite being opposite the main road it was quiet from traffic.
Location of hotel for trips is excellent as we got from Isle of Skye to hotel in just under two hour and there is plenty to see other than Loch Ness under an hour away from hotel.
Shame England lost the football on the Sunday but the staff did not rub it in to much.
Would recommend hotel to others too stay in.

We were on a weekend break and we booked the place through an online hotel portal
The hotel is located on Loch Ness of Inverness with an amazing view.
Rooms though small were good for a weekend break

We enjoyed our stay at the Clansman. Clean room, well-equipped. Our Loch-view room was a little on the small side, but this is a place where you clearly pay for the view and not the room, and the price is well worth it. Our room had outstanding views of the loch. Don't get hung up on little things like room size, and enjoy the natural surroundings outside of the hotel.
Breakfast was more than adequate. Reception staff were fantastic, though breakfast staff not so much, which is why we've rated them average for service.
Overall, we would recommend, and would choose to stay there again.

We loved this hotel. The staff were welcoming and very friendly, our room was clean, warm and comfortable and the view over the loch was beautiful. The hotel is ideally placed to explore the local area - why anyone would complain that the number of channels available on their telly was inadequate is beyond us - why not explore the area instead of the box - madness! The restaurant served 5* food - we've stayed in plenty of hotels and the food in this hotel is up there with the best. The dining room (adjacent to the bar which you could choose to eat in if you wished) had wonderful views over Loch Ness and the menu was varied and included Scottish tranditionals such as Cullen Skink (recommend it highly). Barman Kenny knows his whisky - worth visiting the hotel just to chat with him. The little pool room will make you smile - it really is wee!
You have to take this hotel as you find it - it's a dated building which has the advantage of being sited next to one of the most famous bodies of water in the world. It's not a swanky designer hotel but it is perfect as a weekend retreat for anyone wanting a clean, friendly hotel that serves great food in a location ideally suited to explore the surrounding countryside and attractions.

We're glad you enjoyed your time with us and that you tried the Cullen Skink. It's our chef's special recipe and he gets lots of compliments about it. It's a traditional Scottish dish and is a meal in itself.

We had a room with a small balcony and a view of the Loch. The room was on the small side, but clean and very warm. The bed was reasonably comfortable, but seemed to be two pushed together. The TV only had 4 lousy channels: Considering the remote location you would expect freeview/satellite at the very least to relieve the evening boredom.

The bathroom was tiny with a toilet, sink and possibly the smallest shower cubicle in the world: Hardly enough room to turn around when inside, and someone of a medium/large build would definitely find it difficult to get in and out! The toilet was also fitted with some strange shredding device that made a constant loud noise when water was running.

We ate in the restaurant at night. We both had steak and found the food very nice but pricey. We also find the choice fairly limited, and a bit pretentious:and absolutely nothing for a snack/smaller appetite. Breakfast was reasonable, although the eggs were undercooked.

I have to agree with a previous reviewer: It would be nice to have a 'proper' Loch Ness/Scotland experience whilst in the highlands. All of the staff being Eastern European does detract from the desired effect.

More of a B&B experience than a hotel experience, and an ok stay for the low price paid on Laterooms; Although I wouldnt have been happy paying the £100+ they state is the usual price. .

Thank you for posting your comments and we are glad that you enjoyed the wonderful views of Loch Ness. We are, in fact, the only hotel on this side of Loch Ness that enjoys uninterrupted views, although there are several B&B's that also overlook the loch. We have noted your comments regarding the standard of service that you received and we will address the points you raise - thank you.

Wow! The hotel was warm and welcoming, and had a fantastic scottish feel to it. A perfect getaway in the highlands, not far from inverness. Great for sightseeing and activities, walking, biking, sailing. The food was lovely, lots of choice and the service was brilliant! The spectacular view of loch ness is so peaceful and you come back feeling totally relaxed! I will be back!

A lovely hotel in a charming setting by Loch Ness. Food was British and hearty and the staff were very helpful and friendly with Willy having a fantastic knowledge of the area to help my explore.
Although nothing around the setting on Loch Ness made up for it. Rooms were clean and had all the standard amenities.
