We got a private double room since the dorm was so crammed we were afraid we might not sleep and had a long drive the next day.
The heating didn't work in the room, but we were given an extra duvet so it was fine, just a bit cold on the feet in the morning (no carpet).
The bar was not open, and apparently doesn't seem to ever be open... Shame. The fireplace in the common room was very cosy though.
The staff were friendly and gave us the best advice about going to see the castle after dark (when it's free!!), which made it a lot more impressive.

As it was mentioned earlier, the duvet covers don't seem to get washed in between customers... A bit disgusting...

All in all, it was really "just a hostel, nothing more, nothing less"...

This lovely hostel is in a beautiful location and run by two of the nicest folk I've met. The craic was outstanding and they went all out to make sure our stay was as comfortable and interesting as it could be. Bring a footy for the sevens pitch over the back and go for a jump in Plodda Falls. Thanks again guys!

I know this place has some excellent reviews but after recently going there I really didn't like it. I have never wrote a bad review about something before so feel a bit guilty but only thinks it is right to say about this place.

The hostel has unisex toilets and showers which I personally found very uncomfortable. I am very used to camping (we were only here because there were no camp sites open this week in the area), and I have always found camping showers and toilets better than this. Even though camping is so much cheaper! To me it seemed that the showers and toilets had not been cleaned for our week long stay. In fairness they were not really dirty as people seemed to keep them quite clean themselves (and it was quiet) but I really don't think the owners or staff cleaned them. The sinks were cleaned but not the toilets or showers. There were only two toilets (in the bit of the hostel we were in) and one of them had no toilet roll for 3 days, which seems a bit wrong.

We had a double room, not a dorm room. The room was small (which is fair enough) and the bed was very comfortable. However, we had a real issue with the heating. The room has an electric heater which is excellent and warms the room up lovely and you could turn it on and off when you wanted. But it seemed you could only use it in the evening (during the day it wouldn't turn on). From about 6 it would turn on fine. But we were often in the hostel at about 5 after returning from walking and the room was so cold. There was nothing we could do about it. Then one night it wouldn't turn on until around 7, then on our last night wouldn't turn on at all, so we were freezing all evening and night.

Lastly I am pretty sure the the duvet covers dont get washed from one person to the next as ours was dirty and the laundry sign asks you to remove all sheets and pillow cases when you leave but leave the duvet cover on the duvet. I assume they don't wash it? I just think that is horrible.

I am sorry to write a bad review maybe it's just me but i would rather camp and certainly wont be using this hostel again.

We stayed here in late december, was very cold and wet when we arrived but we had an excellent stay! We booked a family room for 19GDP each, worth it for up to 4 people as you are guaranteed your own space!! Bathroom is unisex but clean and comfortable. Shared areas were good, there was a lot of people booked in that night so the bar area was opened so we ate our takeaway indian in there (which was AMAZING btw..). Open fire was nice but wasnt put on until late in the afternoon so the lounge room was a little cold but quickly warmed up. We bought our own breakfast but there is plenty of facilities to cook if you wish, and free tea and coffee. Lovely location in drumnadochit, we went horse riding and on a nessie hunting trip, we didnt see her though... perhaps it was too cold?

Overall, a great place to stay. Very nice beds, quaint, and clean. A beautiful walk to Urquhart Castle. Breakfast was the only thing I'd say was bad. There was very little to eat, as people who get up early eat everything and there is no-one present to restock. Most people were left with just tea, even if they had already paid. Luckily, there is a store right down the street. I suggest getting your food there. Showers were clean and had lovely hot water! Very nice lounge room. Since we were there in the off season we had a room all to ourselves which was great.

Bathroom is shared for both men and women. Basic breakfast like bread, jam, cereal and milk is provided. Overall it is a clean and basic place for this reasonable price tag.
