“Beautiful Fife”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2011

We stayed for a week from 24th September 2011 which coincided with an unusually warm spell in the country which was great for exploring the many coastal harbours along the East Fife area. We took our 2 large dogs who enjoyed the many almost deserted beaches nearby. The accommodation was super, a 4 bedroomed lodge, fully equipped for our needs. The heating was primarily electric heaters which were good enough for us although a couple of nights we purchased logs to burn on the open fire. The water was also heated by immersion heaters which we only used a few times as we in fact boiled a kettle for washing cups etc as it took a while to warm the water. There was a brilliant electric shower which we used every day and at the end of the week our electric charge was just £16 which was lovely. This is a beautiful part of Scotland which we will return to again. There were many excellent facilities on site with a heated pool and gym area, 2 restaurants and many outdoor activities for all ages also it's only about 30 miles from Edinburgh if you fancy a day out or overnight stay there. Give it a go.

Room Tip: Ask for the lodges that back on to the golfing area as you get the afternoon/evening sun.

Stayed in lodge 103 in Sept 2011. It was excellent. Well equipped and spacious. Three bedrooms slept 8. Good leisure facilities on site including swimming pool, snooker tables, gym, tennis courts, horse riding, golf driving range and restaurant. They also organised activities and trips out. Close to the Fife coast which is beautiful.

Room Tip: Try and get one of the lodges

Spent 2 nights here with my family. Staff were very attentive and quickly sorted out a few minor problems. Stayed in the Castle Suite which was roomy and adequate but as part of it was below ground level was rather dark. The entrance to the stairwell and corridor was dirty with no evidence of it being cleaned while we were there.

Room Tip: Might be best to ask for a suite on an upper floor in the castle

We were a bit apprehensive because the reviews were varied. We arrived to a spacious , clean castle suite. It was dated the decor but the space, cleanness and friendly staff more than made up for this.
It is set in really well maintained grounds with an indoor pool and a very good bistro. They have themed nights and really could not do enough for you. The small towns surrounding less than 2 miles away eg Elie are of interest with lovely beaches surrounding the whole area.
ST Andrews is only 10 miles away and is a wonderful place with a variety of restaurants and coffee shops. There is plenty to explore, you do need a car.
The holiday was wonderful and the whole experience of grounds, accommodation and Bistro all in a beautiful area make it an ideal holiday location.
Thanks to all staff who made our holiday a success.

The rooms were a huge disappointment, dark, dreary and depressing. Didn't realise we had to pay for lighting which was so dimm you couldn't see anything when the curtains were drawn. Supposedly a 4 star accommodation, not up to standard at all. Felt let down as what we stayed in didn't reflect what was advertised on the internet at all. The rooms smelt of dampness and the bedrooms were very depressing and dull. Would not recommend it at all. We left there after a couple of nights and went to the Hilton in Dundee, what a difference, now that's 4 star.

Just back.

Was totaly duped by the website - bore no resemblance to our experience. For the price they charge and the sales pitch I was expecting luxury. Actual experience was as far from luxurious as it could get.

Felt totaly deflated when we arrived at the Castle Suite, very dated, shabby and not very clean. Torn blinds, curtains hanging off the rails, inside of quilt hanging out, quilt stained, cobwebs....I could go on.

Pool was very very cold and changing facilities very poor.

Towels are supposed to be included in price - but if you want clean ones during your stay that costs extra. If you want any housekeeping done that also costs extra, electricity ..yep extra!

Castle grounds lovely, horse riding great. Cooked breakfast very good. Staff very pleasant and attentive with one or two exceptions.

Wouldn't go back and wouldn't recommend to others.

Room Tip: avoid the castle suites - the villas might be nicer
