“Great Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

Everything has been said about this excellent hotel. From start to finish it was a great experience. I loved the cosy atmosphere, added to by the Henry Raeburn and other prints throughout the property. The one in the"Juniper Room" was outstanding and added to the luxurious surroundings, with four poster bed and a huge bathroom with roll top bath and rain shower.
Service was excellent as was the dinner. I should also add that it is very unusual to have eggs Benedict on the breakfast menu, and these were delicious.
My son stays not far from this hotel, and I would definitely have a family dinner or lunch here.
I will also most definitely stay at the Carnbooth again.

Room Tip: I would imagine all eight rooms ard beautiful, but I would recommend Juniper.

I booked a deal via groupon and from the second we arrived it was worth every penny. With roaring fires and a cosy lounge it was instantly welcoming. Our room was fabulous, luxurious and comfortable with amazing views and an en suite to die for. The staff were just the right mix of professional and friendly so felt right at home. The cocktail lounge was more of a snug with a real fire offering snacks and the most gorgeous fresh scones. One drawback was there was no cocktail list but there was a good wine list which was very reasonable.

The deal included a three course meal and a glass of wine. Although the menu was set you can pay a small supplement to eat from the a la carte menu. The food was sublime and service and dining room excellent. Also included was a cook to order breakfast which was very good although some yoghurt would have been nice for a non cereal eater.

All in all it was a brilliant hotel if you like traditional country houses and I do! I will be watching for deals as I would definitely return. Well done to all the staff as we felt we could have been deep in the countryside rather than 10 minutes from glasgow.

We had booked this hotel via a Groupon deal and couldn't believe the value for money. We were the only ones staying that night and we got a spectacular bedroom with 4 poster bed, sitting area with couch and chairs and a smart bathroom with double walk in shower, claw foot bath and his n her sinks. Added to the fact we got dinner, wine and breakfast included in the price of £99 it was a steal. Staff were very attentive and told you about the history of the building. I'd tell you but better if you visited yourself and found out. Internally it has had a fair bit of money spent, there is wood everywhere which is very dark and you could imagine Dracula living there. I'm sure the eyes on the pictures were following me!! Don't let this put you off it was a great stay.

Room Tip: Don't think there is a bad room, only 8 bedrooms in the place.

Stayed at Carnbooth for a night dinner bed and breakfast on a Groupon deal and was surprised to discover a lovely old country house in beautiful grounds. The staff were very welcoming at check-in and we were shown to a beautiful big suite, tastefully decorated with a fantastic bathroom en-suite.
This suite was worthy of the best five star hotel but for a few cleaning and maintenance issues which could be easily rectified. These did not, however, affect the enjoyment of our stay as the house has a lovely warm atmosphere with friendly, helpful staff.
Dinner did not disappoint as the food was delicious and well presented and waiting staff were excellent.
Overall the Groupon deal was well worth buying and great value for such a lovely hotel!

Room Tip: Junior suites are excellent

Me and my Fiancee got our stay through Groupon. And stayed Sunday 11/11/2012. The building and the grounds were beautiful. When you walk into the reception area there is a nice log fire going but quite a strong smell of smoke (more on that later). All of the staff provided a warm welcome and were very friendly. Our room wasnt ready when we arrived at about 2.30pm due to a late departure of a wedding party from the night before (you are meant to be able to check in at 2pm). The staff did apologise and we were shown to the bar area and were served drinks of our choice which we werent charged for which was kind of them. The room was ready not long after and we were shown to our room when we were ready and had finished our drinks.

We were given the Hazel room. The decor was lovely the bed was massive (super king/queen sized bed) and very comfortable. And the bathroom beautifully decorated and was massive with a rainfall shower head over the bath. There were 3 bad points for the room for me, there was a door in the room that goes to the next room along, it was locked of course but could hear any talking or noise from the room next door loud and clear. The next was the emergency exit light over the entrance door to the room which is right in line with the bed, there is an green LED light which is on constantly and at night the room would be pitch black but this little LED lit the whole room up. My fiancee had no trouble sleeping but i like to have total darkness when im sleeping so a combination of this light and also the heavy bedding meaning that it was too warm caused me to have a very restless nights sleep.

The other issue with the room is to do with the log fire in the reception, the smoke travelled up the main stairwell and under the door into the room, the smell was very strong and im asthmatic if it was even just a little bit worse it could have caused an asthma attack. We put a towel down in front of the door and this did help a little with the smell but it was clear when we ventured out of our room to go down for dinner that there was a fair amount of smoke not going up the flue as it was clear to see.

Another thing that lead to my restless nights sleep was the staff deciding to hoover downstairs at the back of 11pm. It woke both me and my Fiancee up and continued for about 30/45 minutes or so. Im not sure the staff realised just how loud this was as there is no door to go through from downstairs it is an open staircase all the way down to the reception area.

We went down for dinner about 6pm and was warmly greeted by the waiting staff. Our waiter (i didnt catch his name unfortunately) was very kind and attentive, very knowledgeable of all the food available and of the wine on offer. With the groupon deal you choose from a set menu with 3 choices on each course, but you can choose from the a la carte menu at a very reasonable supplement, i myself got 4 gorgeous scallops with stornoway black pudding and dressed salad to start for an additional £4, for my main i had an 8oz rib eye steak (a very juicy large thick steak which was the best i've every had) with chips and side salad for an additional £8 and for dessert the best vanilla cheesecake i have ever had for an additional £2. Excellent value for fantastic food and fantastic service.

Breakfast was also fantastic, freshly cooked full scottish breakfast with plenty to choose from to have on your plate.

Overall this was a beautiful hotel and for what we paid for it it was excellent, if it wasnt for the poor nights sleep i had and the strong smell of the smoke that leaked into the room it would have 5 stars for everything.

We booked this hotel through a Groupon deal and we were not disappointed. Excellent value for money... Everything was amazing from the service, rooms and especially the food (which was out of this world!) Would absolutely recommend this hotel and will most definitely be back sometime in the near future...

Stayed at the Carnbooth on a group on deal. Could not believe how much we got for our money. Staff were friendly, professional and efficient. Room was spacious, comfortable and decor beautiful. Food at dinner was well presented and tasty. Breakfast was cooked to order, so no dried up, Luke warm buffets here. Waiting staff were friendly and cheery. All round an excellent experience and value for money.
