“Lovely setting, good food, comfortable.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2013

We fell in love with this place. It is situated in an incredibly beautiful area and has its own ruined castle in the grounds. Ann Black is a very busy lady but still has time to make you feel welcome, sit and chat about the local area and the wonderful house and farm and also to provide you with tea and biscuits on arrival. Our room was located on the ground floor - a large, comfortable ensuite room. Breakfast was served in a lovely light and airy conservatory with an amazing view. There was an extensive choice - yoghurt, fresh fruit, cereal, full cooked breakfast, toast and marmalade. The farmhouse is about 8 miles from the historic town of Peebles, 20 from Edinburgh and a short distance from the village of West Linton. We asked Ann if she could recommend somewhere close by for us to eat our evening meal. She suggested the Old Bakery in West Linton and phoned to check there would be a table available for us. This proved to be an excellent place to eat with great choice, including vegetarian choices. We spent three nights there and will return when next in the area.

Arrived as we were en-route from Edinburgh to wales and wanted to make a start on the journey. The B and B is in a beautiful location and the hostess was great. Breakfast is wonerful with a fresh fruit platter, cereals and a full Scottish breakfast! Not all rooms have en-suite so make sure you are aware of this (it is clear on their website).

We were there in march 2013 for 4 days. It was a lovely bed &breakfast, especially breakfast, made by Ann! This place is so gorgeous; not only the house as well the environment. The bedroom was very luxurous and the houseroom with fireplace was very cosey and warm. We would like to thank David and Ann for there warm hospitallity and ofcourse our special greet to their dog Mac ;-) The little 'man' is hilarious!

It was the first B&B on our recent holiday and what a start! Ann's baking is a real treat and her wonderful breakfast in a large stunning conservatory with views to match left us wishing we could stay longer. Our large bedroom had many thoughtful touches. We have considerable experience of B&Bs and we rate Drochil Farmhouse extremely highly.

We found Ann's place online after making a bad choice at another farm-type location in the area. Ann was understanding of our plight and very welcoming. The house is large, warm, draft-free and clean. There was no tv in the room, but we prefer this. In any case, there is a large and comfy lounge downstairs with tv if you wish. We would have liked tea-making facilities in our room however, and given the large size of the room this would have been perfectly possible. Breakfast was fresh and with plenty of choice, served in a lovely conservatory with stunning views of the hills. We would defiantly come again if in the area. Thank you Anne!

This is an unusual B&B. It's a working farm with a ruined castle in the middle of it. We visited in the height of summer, it would be interesting to come again when the nettles have died down a bit to give the ruins a proper visit. The owner was accommodating, we arranged to stay for a single night when their normal tarriff for a weekend is two nights. On arrival the room was being prepared, and it was a very comfortable room once ready for us.

There are a few things that need attention - we were not offered a room key, and when I asked for one, there was the distinct impression that it was being offered to us with reluctance. The bathroom shower head dial came off in my hand and there was only what looked like a previous visitor's Next shower gel rather than fresh toiletries. A single tea bag was in the room, we had to ask for more. This is a 4 star B&B and we were told that breakfast was continental unless we specifically asked for a cooked breakfast, which we immediately asked for. This is surprising, the first B&B I have been in outside London where a cooked breakfast was not routinely on offer.

That said, when the morning came and we looked out over the fields at the sheep and the sunshine, the breakfast we received was truly excellent, as were the accompaniments (beautiful fresh fruit salad in particular).

The owner was very friendly, able to have easy conversation with us and tell us the gruesome history of the castle. We would return if in the area as despite a few minor hiccups (perhaps we arrived at a bad time) it is good value.

We've stayed here a number of times over the years and are never disappointed. Ann is a great host and very welcoming, the farmhouse is spotlessly clean, the views are fantastic and the breakfasts have been rated as the "best in Scotland" by my husband (who is a connoisseur of scottish breakfasts!!).
