“Peace and quiet with a touch of luxury”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2014 for a stay in May 2014

The Bothy although is on a working farm this did not detract from the peace and quiet of the stay, situated in a row of former farm workers cottages, the open aspect at the front to fields of yellow rapeseed and bird feeders erected at intervals to attract the birds was an ideal setting.
The cottage was delightful, a four poster bed ,a luxury bathroom with jacuzzi bath, living area with large Television, DVD player and open fire. The small kitchen contained everything one would need , fridge /freezer, microwave, cooker, and ample crockery and utensils. All one needs to bring is food, we did as we did not know what shops were close by. In fact the only shop was a Spar in Coldingham a couple of miles away by car. Meals could be had at the pub.
Coldingham is ideally situated to explore the local Scottish Borders but if you want just a quiet , relaxing time Coldingham Bay is ideal for watching the world go by or if you want adventure try out the surfing, excellent waves to be had when we were there. St Abbs close by was another delightful little fishing village a keen haunt for divers and bird watchers.
We had excellent weather apart from one day of rain, so bring a few DVD's to watch if you do not want to go out, or a good book. There is also a webcam linked up to see either blue tits nest, buzzards nest, at the pond watching for otters, at the badger set. We saw no badgers or otters but we watched the buzzard chicks get bigger and the Blue Tits. We also saw the parent buzzards flying above us.
Only thing missing was a bench at the front of the cottage to sit and catch the last rays of the day, some of the cottages had a bench so maybe it will be The Bothy's turn next. We had a swing bench in the back garden but to be honest I do not think it was meant for adults, but we did not test it to see.
Overall excellent week, could not fault the accommodation or the friendly owner. So if its peace and quiet you are after, as there is limited mobile phone reception and the WIFI was intermittent, and you want to enjoy the the wildlife, this is the place to be.

“Beautiful scenery, fantastic wildlife, cosy cottage”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2014 for a stay in February 2014

The cottage was great, everything we needed: clean, cosy and the cctv of badgers and otter in the evenings was wonderful. We are quite into our wildlife so the site was perfect for watching hares and roe deer, bullfinches and yellowhammers. Jacuzzi bath, comfortable bed and log fire were lovely to come back to after some long walks around St Abbs, Eyemouth and Berwick-on-tweed, and only an hour from Edinburgh so even pandas and koalas are within easy reach!
Emma and Peter were on hand to make sure we had a nice stay and gave us a heads up about when to watch for the nocturnal wildlife. This has been one of the best holidays we've had and we will be booking again soon!

“PICTURE PERFECT COTTAGE”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2014 for a stay in January 2014

we didn't want to leave.....that's how much we enjoyed our stay, the cottage is very cosy and has everything you need for a very comfortable stay.
Definitely take 5 mins to speak with the lovely owner Emma and use her knowledge for local places to visit etc , her recommendation to visit John Muir park was excellent it's an absolutely stunning place ..
We had 3 days in January and the weather was great to us our dog could not get enough of the gorgeous clean sandy beaches never seen her so exhausted by end of the day .
If you stay during winter months you will probably do a basket of wood a night on the fire but at £4 a basket that's ok ( just leave your cash on departure helps towards sustaining fuel on the land)
We are already looking forward to our next trip to explore more of the coastline !

We enjoyed meeting you and were delighted you enjoyed your stay.
We too love exploring the vast empty beaches in the depths of winter and then coming back to a roaring fire.
Hope to see you soon.

“Perfect country get away :)”

Me my wife & pet dog were guests at the Bothy on 4-6 Oct 2013, to be honest we were utterly surprised by the standard of accommodation within this cosy cottage. The open plan living is great and adds to the homely feeling where ever you are in the cottage. There is a large open fire with plenty of logs on the hearth (even more stacked outside if needed) to keep you snug at night, as well as the central heating system in case you are not wanting to have the real flame effect. The jacuzzi bath is a treat and lets you indulge a little after a long walk on the local beaches.
The cottage has wi-fi along side flat screen tv, blue ray player & Ipod docking station, in all more than you will ever need but a few great touches so you can still enjoy all your needs.
Emma (the owner) was really good with our booking & popped down to make sure we were settled in ok.
You have a private garden to the rear so you can let your pets just plod around and enjoy the outside even if you do not want to travel out.
To be honest I think it would be very hard to find such a nice place with such accommodating owners, so we will be returning in the future.

“Lovely peaceful getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2013 for a stay in June 2013

We stayed at The Bothy Cottage in June 2013, a long weekend treat for me, fiance and 2 dogs.

The cottage itself is lovely and has everything you need. Dishwasher, fridge freezer, toaster, microwave, logs for the open fire, flat screen TV, DVD player, free wifi and a fab jacuzzi bath!

The view is great and the garden perfect. Our 2 dogs loved it.

If you like wildlife you'll like The Bothy, there's also various bird feeding tables/perches outside of the cottages that are kept full of food which attract many different types of birds.

We had gorgeous weather when we were there but even if we hadn't we'd have still enjoyed it.

It's just a couple of miles away from Coldingham village and Eyemouth with some lovely country pubs and beaches.

We'll definitely be back!

“A perfect retreat :)”

The bothy cottage is absolutely lovely. My boyfriend and I stayed for two nights, just looking for a quiet weekend away. The bed was comfy, no problems with any of the facilities, everything was straightforward and easy to use. The views are lovely, and there's plenty of wood supplied for the log fire. The cottage was exceptionally clean, I am a bit fussy about cleanliness and I was really impressed! Another thing that made our stay at the bothy so enjoyable was the fantastic customer service we received. Emma came by to check we were happy with everything, and she couldn't have been more welcoming. It really does make such a difference! She accommodated us with a late check out as she had availability to do so, which we really appreciated.

We're going to go back in August, and I doubt that will be our last visit. I can't recommend this cottage enough.
