“Failed to impress!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 18, 2013 via mobile

I held my company conference at the hotel recently. I live in the area and wanted to give my staff and guests a taste of Welsh hospitality, sadly they left disappointed, very disappointed in fact.

There are many excellent features to Miskin Manor, the location, the building, the grounds and the friendliness and helpfulness of a few members of staff. Sadly the overall experience was marred by the unprofessional way in which many aspects of our stay were handled and the absolute lack of professionalism and respect to customers shown my some members of staff.

Clearly Miskin Manor is an excellent wedding venue with outstanding backdrops and good entertaining and dining areas. Unfortunately there is a huge difference between a wedding function and a conference stay, sadly Miskin Manor is not prepared or equipped to handle the latter. Had it not been for the constant alertness and proactive organisation on the part of my company conference organiser very little would have gone well during our stay.

Most of my staff and guests are from outside the area; as well as a number of guests from America, they are all used to staying in fine hotels and were all expecting an enjoyable stay, they were universally disappointed with the standard of bedrooms and in some cases upset with the way some staff handled their requests for simple things such as coffee, sandwiches etc, perhaps a training session explaining how their wages are actually generated would be a good start!

I realise that we are not awash in our area with highly experienced and highly professional hotel and hospitality staff, however, there is no excuse for unprofessional and dismissive behaviour on the part of SOME staff. Unfortunately with the high proportion of young staff a less than satisfactory level of service can run through the whole staff, not necessarily due to their lack of ability but more down to training and guidance.

Can you please take these points on board, look at the other comments you have received and look at how things can be improved for future guests. I am very happy to have a pre conference debrief if this would be helpful.

I went to the Health Club part of the Hotel as part of a voucher deal - what a bargain! Two of us had a full days use of the facilities, unlimited hot drinks and two treatments each for £45. The only disappointment was that i had expected a hotel of this size to have a Jacuzzi - but it didn't. The pool was however lovely and warm and you looked out onto lush green fields from the poolside. There is a cafe at the Health Club and we were lucky enough to have beautiful sunshine so were able to sit out on the patio in our bikinis whilst enjoying a peaceful, well priced lunch. All staff at the Health Club were very friendly, especially the lady at the initial reception. The massage and facial were the best i've experienced for quite a while so would go back for treatments. The complex itself was extremely busy on the day we went as they were filming Sherlock Holmes in the grounds. Still plenty of parking and we kept our eyes peeled for the likes of Stephen Fry!

My Fiance and I went to Miskin Manor for my birthday meal on the 7th May and were a little reserved as I had been there once before for afternoon tea (thought this was a year ago), which had been less than impressive to say the least.

However upon my visit last night I must admit that my previous encounter must have been a bad day!
I am Gluten Free and this can often be a problem for restaurants as you need to make adaptions. As my fiance had mentioned this when booking they were fully prepared even with gluten free bread available - absolutely delicious! - and also our waitress, the deputy restaurant manager I believe, Nicola, was very helpful with the menu and choices I could have.

We are fortunate enough to have been to Michelin star places for special treats and can honestly say we found the food and service at the Miskin Manor to be superb and we felt just as well looked after and well fed as at any of the highly rated places we had been before! Having been to restaurants with a 2 rosette award before and found them lacking this was certainly not the case here. We thoroughly enjoyed our food and look forward to being able to visit again.

On our visit the venue was being used for filming and they took over the usual reception which did throw us off a bit! Luckily a member of the production team who we stumbled into pointed us in the right direction but maybe a temporary sign may have helped! It certainly added to the fun to know there were some celebrities just around the corner though.

A beautiful hotel set in well kept grounds. There's even a helipad! We had a romantic w/e away on a kgb deal and dined in the restaurant - recommended. Special food but not expensive, drinks prices were fine too. The decor is great, very "country manor" with antiques etc. We had a superior double room which was huge and had a v comfy bed. Had a swim at the gym and sauna, (included in deal) - very nice. Staff were very helpful & friendly. Recommended, top w/e! Definitely recommended if you want to go somewhere special.

Room Tip: if there's a wedding on you can hear the DJ in some rooms, so if you'e sensitive to noise...

Went for a staff get together to celebrate some birthdays, so wanted something a little bit more special than normal. We booked the Oak Room for last Friday evening - what an experience. The setting was superb, the food fantastic and the service, second to none. Would definitely use this facility again
