“Blaenavon Heritage - well worth visiting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2013

The Ironworks was once such an historic place, and one of huge importance to the area. I'm so glad it has been saved for posterity. I think the restoration has been sensitively done, and the history and information was brilliant.
The visitor centre staff were very helpful and friendly
The best feature of the visit was the cottages....
They were used in the BBC Wales series "Coalhouse"
and they remind you of a smaller version of St. Fagans museum, the cottages are open to the public, to wander around and step into the past.....
Just a short trip from Big Pit, and the Pontypool & Blaenavon Railway - you really can spend a whole day in the area,
learning about the past, and stepping back in time
If you're in the area - don't ponder a visit - just go there & enjoy
and it's free!!

The Stack Square cottages are charming, it's fascinating to have a wander through them and imagine what it was like for the families who made these cottages their homes

“The 'coal houses'”

Fascinating cottages used in the TV series - even smaller in real life!
Ancient iron works and industrial history. Close to the 'Big Pit'.
