“Fairbourne Railway”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2012

This is one of the smaller railways of Wales. It has been running in one guise of another since about 1890 but is rather more up to date nowadays. It runs from Fairbourne to Barmouth Ferry, about two miles and is on so narrow a gauge that one wonders if two fat people could sit side by side.
If you are lucky, you can continue by boat to Barmouth/Bermaw on the other side of the river, an entertaining ride.
The locomotives seem to be models of other engines which run on the full-size local railways.
It's fun, but kids grow up into the bigger local railways.

“Frequent Visitor”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2012

Done the lot on this railway - Santa trips with the kids to just because it's there. We park at the station, catch the train to the end then get the ferry boat to take us to Barmouth across one of the most beautiful estuaries in the world (official). Have a cup of tea at the end cafe whilst
watching a full-size train cross the bar. Superb. Shall be there again soon.

“Great location”

A terrific adventure for adults and kids alike. Set in an unusual location on a peninsula going out to sea. Great area for a walk to.

“Lovely day out”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2012 via mobile

The Fairbourne Railway is a miniature line that runs from the down at heel resort of Fairbourne along the coast and out into the sand dunes at Penrhyn Point. Although it is only a couple of miles long, the scenery is, as always, stunning - this is Wales after all. You can spend a whole day in the area by walking on the beautiful beach or perhaps catching the ferry across to the traditional seaside resort of Barmouth. For the more adventurous you can walk back to Fairbourne over Barnourh Bridge with its breathtaking views up the Mawddach Estuary.
The Fairbourne Railway has a lovely collection of locomtives, each half size replicas of famous narrow gauge engines, and has both open and closed coaches resembling those running on the Festiniog Railway. Fairbourne Statuon itself has the feel of a full size station in miniature and the trains look very smart.
I have heard that this railways future is far from certain at the moment but I really hope it survives. It is a really lovely addition to the area and it would be a real loss if it were to close.

“Give the little ones a treat.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2012

Lovely little railway, you can catch a ferry over to Barmouth at the end of the line, or simply do the return trip there and then. Views are brilliant and the staff so helpful. Nice little museum. Fantastic when the "Fat Controller" there.
