“Good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2013

A decent village inn. This place is no frills. The bedroom was a bit tired but overall it was fine. The food is definitely no nonsense in terms of presentation but there was a good choice and it was extremely well prepared and tasty. We thoroughly enjoyed the meals we had. The service was very efficient. Breakfast was fine. The hotel really is good value for what we paid.
Berriew is a pretty village and is well located for exploring the beautiful countryside in mid Wales.

Went here for a sunday lunch and was very impressed. Service was fast and courteous, food cooked nicely with good sized portions, and place overall very nice! Only loses one point due to a few too many tables in the dining room which made things a little noisy but overall would definitely return again!!

Lovely place in picture perfect welsh village. Walked around the village and up the canal. Hotel very historic, room had exposed timber beams but otherwise very modern. Free wifi downstairs but didn't work in our top floor room. Great family run hotel.

We stopped here after a long walk around Pistyll falls for a simple meal and got just that. Because we were with a dog we were'nt allowed in the restaurant part but we could have food in the bar area. My wife had chicken tikka , i had half a chicken with greens and my kid got a hamburger. While it wasn't haute cuisine, which we didn't expect of course, it was palatable enough and filled our bellies. The staff is very friendly and they have a couple of guest ales on tap so that is always a fun way to discover new brews.
Berriew is a small town but cute with a rapid river flowing through it. It well worth a quick stop and the Talbot is as good a place as any to fortify oneself.

My partner & I plus several different groups of friends have been here 3 times in the past month for two evening meals and one Sunday lunch. Food is good, locally sourced, mostly home cooked and at a reasonable price. The staff are friendly and helpful and I guess it would be a bonus if you liked real ale. In an area which is remarkably devoid of consistently good eateries, this has not disappointed at all. Good for all round family grub, nothing too special, but should do well because they are trying hard. They seem to have got the formula right for the local area. We have not stayed at the Talbot, just been there for food.

Room Tip: n/a as we did not actually stay.

Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was fantastic, dinner was fine - large servings, we definitely didn't go hungry. Our room was huge, and clean. Stairs a bit steep, but not much they can do about that! Only a little bit of on-site parking, but really appreciated the free wi-fi. Overall quite a pleasant spot to stay, and quite reasonably priced.

We have a holiday a few miles from the Talbot and have been using it for a few years now.
Although we have never stayed overnight we have never heard a bad word spoken by people who have.
The staff are always pleasant and helpful and the locals who frequent the bar are friendly and welcoming, in fact we have made several good friends in there since we started visiting the place.
We have eaten both in the bar and restaurant and have never been disappointed, the food is of good quality and the portions are large.
We would thoroughly recommend the Talbot whether its for a drink, snack, full meal or accommodation.
