Whenever my husband and I often visit mid wales which is quite regularly, when the opportunity arises we always try and book a nice meal at this establishment, 'The Talbot Hotel in Berriew. Situated in the small and very picturesque village of Berriew by the river rhiew, this wonderful and charming hotel offers wonderful homely welcomes together with superb and high standard service with such exceptional hospitality given to whoever comes in whether its just for a drink, a light lunch, or a lovely evening meal. The ambience of the place is exceptional with comfortable seating, nicely spaced tables and a wonderful serviced bar for a superb range of drinks service at reasonable prices. As to the food, well where do I begin. The menues on all fronts you are always spoilt for choice with many of its main course choices sought from local butchers, fishmongers etc. They all come highly recommended and the quality of the food is always second to none. The size of the portions dont come small, even the starters are like the size of a normal main course, and usually a decision has to be made whether it is one, two or three courses. Most people just usually plum for two as the size of the portions really do come large. With the sunday lunch menu the choice is always two good roasts plus a fish choice and possibly a vegetarian, they all come with a large array of freshly cooked vegetables, the last time we counted 7. The outstanding specials board together with the lovely sweet/dessert choice and the assorted local ice-cream choices are also staggeringly delicious and it takes a while to make many a decision should you be in a position to possibly make room for such desserts following yr previous meal choices. On mothering sunday we were given a small but nice bottle of chilled wine with the pubs compliments for the day and depending on the size of the party some people were fortunate enough to have more than one bottle per table. The proprietors really do appreciate their regular customers and people often rebook over and over again just simply to enjoy the ambience and superb standard that is on offer here. For overnight stoppers they also do a nice trade in accommodation with a few ensuite bedrooms with reasonable tariffs to compliment their bed and breakfast stay. This is an ideal place for walkers, or the just visiting guests who want to put their head down in a comfortable room at a reasonable price. But on all fronts, to have a guarantee of achieving a successful visit at this establishment you have to book, sometimes recommended well in advance in order for you to get a reservation. The meals are priced very reasonable, for example 14.99 per person for 3 course sunday lunch was what we paid for mothering sunday, it was superb and it made our weekend. The staff are really friendly, they are very efficient in their superb service to their guests both in restaurant and bar. There are also tables outside for people who wish to sit and enjoy just a drink and the welsh fresh air. This place is really wonderful and a credit to the hosts who always go the extra mile in looking after their guests, this is a popular venue, its dining room is not the largest in numbers but if you are fortunate enough to be able to reserve a table you will surely be looked after very well once you are there. Just brilliant, can't wait to go again.
Never actually stayed in the hotel for sleeping but I recommend for meals and accommodation booking...
