“Quiet, comfortable stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2010

My mother and I stayed at The Lion Hotel for one night in September. The room was clean and comfortable, and very quiet overlooking the St. Beuno's churchyard. Both Beryl and Trudie were warm and friendly, made us feel welcome. I'd be happy to stay at The Lion again, and would readily recommend it to anyone travelling to Wales.

Didn,t stay at hotel but booked for an evening meal in the restaurant.
Although there was plenty of room in the main restaurant we were seated in an annexe - very cosy but we did feel a little like social outcasts.!
Limited choice of menu but food was excellent & very well presented.Dessert menu was even more limited. We chose the cheeseboard selection but portioons were extremely small with just a couple of wafer thin biscuits -some grapes & celery would have been a nice touch.
Very friendly staff ,beaytiful village setting

Very pub in the country, slightly worn carpets, somewhat tired bedrooms decorated with a lot of floral touches - but nice new bathroom, home made biscuits, small room with lovely view over graveyard - yes it was quiet as the dead in the night. Slept like logs. Owners wacky and friendly and welcoming - the sort of bar you could spend a lot of time in. And the food - wow, sublime, rich, rich tastes but somehow light enough that we made it all the way to a pudding. Bargain B&B price and we're just waiting for the right excuse to return.

This is our third visit, the second this year, we find the Hotel to be relaxing and very friendly, Beryl & her Daughter Trudi make you very welcome as do the locals that frequent the bar. The rooms are clean & comfortable with en-suite.
A good selection for breakfast with an excellent full english (or should this be Welsch) that keeps you going until lunch. The evening meal is excellent, good selection, very well presented and they use locally sourced ingredients. Well placed to visit the coast and toens like Welshpool, Shrewsbury & Ludlow to name just a few.

WONDERFUL! Great food, nice wine list, convenient to Powys, helpful staff, lovely rooms, modern facilities. Highly recommendable. Very picturesque village, well worth a good wander around. The church has an interesting church, seems it is only open on Sundays, at least when we were there. Fabulous Welsh countryside to drive through to get to and from various sites.
Three very comfortable nights here.

I have reviewed the Lion before, and am doing so again because of their excellent new chef. The food has always been very goodand based on superb local ingredients but the new chef has a more sophisticated style of cooking and presentation, yet it's still the same excellent value.

2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2009

I stayed here in October 2009, was booked in for two nights but didn't stay.

There is no 24 hr reception and when I arrived at 0600 in the morning after a night shift I had to wake the poor woman there up,

The room was small and the bathroom tired

The worst thing however was that the bed was only a foot from the door and floor creaks and voices from the corridor woke me up constantly, also the kitchen or suchlike was directly beneath and there was quite a bit of noise, pots and voices etc

Also there was a strong and lingering smell of spicy cooking in the room, presumably from the kitchen below

There is on street parking only

The place looks quaint and the staff were friendly
