“Always a good reception and value for money”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2013

We use the Tredegar Arms quite regularly when the kitchen is 'closed' at home. Usually a mid week visit for an evening meal. The service is always very good with a good choice of meals from the menu with a range of 'Specials' on the board. The TA has a nice welcoming atmosphere and is a real change from the 'Mass produced' theme pubs found in towns. My favourites being the steak pie or slow roasted belly pork.

Situated right in the middle of Shirenewton, an attractive village in Monmouthshire. Well worth a visit on a summers night to eat or just sit outside in the sun with a beer.

“Bit disappointed.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2013

Waited an hour and a quarter for three fairly average dishes to arrive. Restaurant not enormously busy. Friendly service when it was happening, just expected a better quality for the money; this really struck us as slightly below par pub food with pretentions to something much better.

“Excellent pub grub”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2013

Eaten here a number of times and only ever had good experiences. Food is what i would describe as good quality traditional pub food with some fancier alternatives. Had a great steak and chips. Wife had a fish dish (type of soup i think) which she loved. Good beer and nice atmosphere whether in restaurant bit to right or bar to left. I would recommend.

“Fantastic value for money”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2013

We found it really difficult to find a rural pub which served food on a Sunday evening, but this one does, until 8pm. We were greeted by very friendly staff and the landlady, shown to our table which had been pre-booked, and we ordered our drinks. I wouldn't describe this as a gastro pub, but one which serves good honest, home cooked food. Two had soup to start, followed by 2 steak and stilton pies, one scampi and chips, and one enormous roast dinner (beef). This was washed down with a pint of beer and a bottle of red wine, all for just over £60.00 for the 4 of us. We asked for a doggy bag for the roast beef which was left, and they kindly put it in a plastic takeaway tub for us - no soggy serviettes/cling film!! Excellent value. Will return if in the area again.

“Overpriced and pretencious”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2013

Pleasant enough decor, more a failed attempt at a gastro pub than anything else. But not unpleasant. All our food was at best average,at worst dry and uninteresting.Who in their right minds would serve a steak in a dry baguette with dry tortilla chips on the side ? Children's portions are available if you don't mind your kids eating frozen pizza bases with a sprinkling of cheese on top or fish fingers.No... a menu poorly planned, averagely executed at best with premium prices. You won't see us again there, though apparently Sunday lunches are popular - shame about the rest of the week !
