“A meal from Heaven”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2013

Tried the Taster Menu for lunch. The food was a Taste of Welsh produce treated with a magic wand with service that was exemplary. We left walking on air. Nothing was too much trouble as one of us was not able to eat onions and this was accommodated without any fuss and no detraction from taste..

Room Tip: A wonderful place to stop when you are exploring the scenic Wye Valley.

We have just arrived home after having diner with an overnight stay.
Following the closure and reopening of the crown under different ownership, we didn't know what to expect.
We chose 3 courses from the a la carte menu, which proved to be absolutely superb and cooked to perfection.
At the front of house, Andy, Steve and the other staff provided an excellent service and are a credit to the crown.
I wish them all the success they deserve

Room Tip: Go for room no. 1 which used to be called Wales, we stayed in room 2 which is virtually the same

Have been coming here on and off for over ten years, initially it was surprisingly good, I say surprisingly simply because back then little places like this were few and far between.

However as the years rolled on it became pretentious and frankly, not that great, more style 9or lack of it) over substance.

So when it went bust last year I can't say I was surprised, it had been a cash cow for the owners and really was not worth the money.

So back to now...

Yesterday we went for lunch, was welcomed by a lovely young lady who we later learnt was new to the job, but frankly is already doing a great job. Shown to our seats and handed a drinks menu by an equally charming front of house chap who also really knew his stuff when it came to wine - a real credit to the Crown.

I wont ramble on about individual dishes (we both had three courses) but I will say that everything was absolutely spot on, I even discovered I like Kale, at least the way its served here - superb.

Wine was very reasonable ( we had a Macon for less than £24) though as often is the case, wine by the glass is a tad pricy. Before we left we asked to see the rooms (yep, you can stay too!) given the modest size of the Crown they were surprisingly good, decor was fresh, clean and modern and the bathrooms would not look out of place in s five star resort hotel (hack of a lot nicer than the Celtic for a start)

Would we go again - absolutely, no question. We can not wait

Room Tip: Mid week deals deals worth looking out for, rooms are all modern (we were shown around just before w...
