“Review Update, Walker's Cay”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2009

I spent from Nov. 08 through Jan. 09 at or on Walker's Cay. The only people in residence are Sgt. Gibson the local LEO, a great guy and the rotating Customs official. then there was Rodney who maintains the Lift Barge. Thats it ! The boat to and from Little Grand each day is the only way to food and a place to lay your head at night, Rosie's Place. That is unless you arrive by boat. there is a Commuter flight or two each day from Freeport (Cessna 208B). Any other ?s ask, I'll tell ya what I know. Restless2, in Iraq now.

Spent lots of nights here during family trips and fishing tournaments and loved the hotel. This is an out island, not the easiest to get to unless arriving by boat, but beautiful for walking and exploring. Wouldn't hesitate to ever stay. Best bacon cheeseburgers in the Bahamas!

We Just returned from a very nice stay at the Hotel (Oct. 2003). The rooms were plain but clean and comfortable. If you are looking for something a little more up scale stay in the bungalows (villas) they appear to be newer and more spacious. The staff was very friendly and the service was excellent. The food in the restaurants was good. The staff at the dive shop was very helpful and accommodating. Overall a great experience. What occurred with the people that wrote the disgusting review is a mystery.

In my travels around the globe, I don't think I have had such a disgusting experience. On entering the room my feet stuck like glue to the carpet, the bedspread and the couch were stain covered. We didn't unpack our clothes or sleep in the bed without being fully clothed. The bathroom was an absolute disgrace, I don't think the toilet was bolted to the floor so you had to hang on for dear life. The shower was covered in mold and mildew and I had to place a towel on the floor before entering. The entire room smelled like a raw sewerage plant - it was awful. We were booked for 4 nights but bolted after 2. To top it all we didn't catch one fish!

Walker's Cay is one of the finest fishing and sport diving spots in the Bahamas. Surprisingly, the accommodations are nice and the dining more than suitable for this rustic 100-acre Island. The local villagers make up the majority of the workers on the Island, thus giving it a true local flare.

Walker's is located at the farthest end of the Abaco chain, but is worth checking out. The water is warm, crystal clear, and the staff is very friendly. I highly recommend this destination.
