We visited FS Exuma twice, once three years ago in the early fall and again last year during the summer. There were some minor improvements, like air conditioning at Sea Breeze, the restaurant now known as 23 degrees.

The Exumas are breathtaking and the hotel is enjoying it’s tenure as the only luxury resort in the entire region. Physically, the grounds are nice and well kept but will not blow you away. The rooms are also nice and well kept but not quite up to par with other FS resorts. The staff were very welcoming, especially as second time guests. Like other FS resorts they take wonderful care of the kids, but we did not find the staff very genuine. The pools are good, but not great, pool and beach service is good. Everything is definitely solid and you have the framework for a very relaxing vacation, but you simply can’t put this hotel up on any world’s best list.

The food is also good but not great. I must say that the main restaurant (IL Cielo) has greatly improved since our last stay and some items were delicious. The décor of Il Cielo was and still is very pretty. 23 degrees is boring, and Ting Em’s (the casual beachside bar) remains our favorite of the 3. Their food has real flavor, but watch out for the flies.

The ocean is gorgeous, the emerald hue is ever-present under the sun and the sand is quite soft. The hotel enjoys a wide and beautiful stretch of beach, but for example the beach chairs are not high quality. We took boating trips organized by the hotel each time. I would highly recommend doing this in the exumas, we caught a barracuda and several other fish during one exciting trip, stopped at a surreal sandbank rising up out of the ocean and enjoyed snorkeling.

If you are looking for action, the tiny casino on property is probably not going to cut it for you and there is nothing else to do anywhere on the island. We were specifically looking to relax and thoroughly enjoyed our peace and quiet, both times.

The hotel seems to be an escape for the rich and famous, on both visits we have seen Fashion icons, Hollywood stars, and NBA athletes. I can see why celebrities would forego the busier and perhaps nicer of the FS chain for this quiet, remote resort. We opted for the same.

Sadly the Four Seasons are pulling out of this resort next week. Hopefully another buyer is in the pipeline as this really is one of the nicest locations that we have ever stayed in. The staff were friendly, thoughtful and attentative. Our room was beautifully furnished and kept imaculately clean. Despite having had poor reviews on food standards we found that the majority of the meals were excellent. Yes, it could be reviewed as a little bit "pricey" but no more than any other 4 or 5 star hotel anywhere else in the world.
We spent a wonderful day with Captain Jerry Lewis (all day boat charter $750 which includes him as a guide) and spent the day seeing deserted beaches, the clearest sea and some of the best snorkelling that I've ever done (better than the Red Sea, the Carribean and the Barrier Reef!!).
On another day we took a taxi to Coco Plum Beach (again beautiful) and had lunch there (absolutely delicious!). After eating we spent a few hours swimming, walking on sand bars and looking for sand dollars.
If you want "time out" then this is the place to go. If you want busy nights and parties then you will be disappointed.

We were sorry to learn in advance of our upcoming trip next week that the resort would be closing on 5/26.

Sad news indeed as I believe the resort is the largest employer on the island. Hopefully a new buyer or management group will get this resort up and running soon.

My husband and I just returned from a 4-night stay at Four Seasons Great Exuma for a romantic/anniversary getaway. We paid $375 per night for garden view room and received 4th night free on hotel website promo. The garden view rooms are all ground level with patios that walk out onto the grass and then scenic sidewalks. They seemed decent enought, but the hotel was not fully occupied so we asked if we could receive an upgrade. They happily bumped us up to the second floor (each building has three floors) and the ocean view was much better. Nice sitting balcony with table and chairs and sounds of the lapping waves were audible, especially at night, even though the beach was still a distance away from our building. All buildings are equidistant from beach except for the "residences" or "beachfront" rooms. They are literally on the beach. Very nice but a much bigger price jump.

The service and staff were some of the most friendly we've encountered, especially the concierge. The manager even sent a small bottle of Veuve to celebrate our anniversay, nice touch. Everyone knew our name (not too hard when the resort is so empty) but the friendly greetings everywhere we went were still much appreciated. We ate at all three restaurants (how could you not because there is NOTHING nearby). The food was good, not the best ever, but certainly good. And yes, the prices are expensive. $13 for a mixed drink. $12 for glass of wine. $6 for a beer. But hey, you are staying in a Four Seasons.

I ready MANY reviews of beach resorts before we selected FS Exuma. We chose it for the value (the lower price in May combined with fourth night free could not be beat), the proximity to Miami airport, the snorkeling, and the peace and quiet. With those as our determining factors I'd say we selected just right.. We rented a car for the 4 days from Airport Car Rental (literally across the street from airport at $70 per day). We heard that the cab fare back and forth to Georgetown was $100 roundtrip, we're culturally curious, wanted to seek out local cuisine and activities so it made sense to rent the car. If we were at FS Exuma for a quick 2 night weekend then I would definitely not rent a car. We found amazing local breakfast of Stewed Conch at Town Cafe, the absolute best lunch ever at CocoPlum with hands down the most beautiful waters ever, and the freshest conch ceviche at Chat n Chill. (the sunday pig roast party seems to be the main event in Exuma wiith locals, yachties, and tourists. a truly awesome day. Too many rum punches to remember the details). It was liberating to explore the local flavor of Exuma on our own, however, we certainly did enjoy the poolside pampering (fruit kebobs, popsicles) at FS.

We only hope the economy doesn't hurt FS Exuma too badly. Such a beautiful property where you can check-in and literally check out from the rest of the world.
