I have been traveling to Eleuthera for many years. As a former employee of Pan Am, I flew to Eleuthera many times and made many friends on the island. My husband and I flew our own plane all throughout the Bahamas and visited many islands. However, Eleuthera is special and I like to return as often as I can. I call it the magic island because Eleuthera is always where I see the most beautiful birds, water, butterflies, seashells, stars, waves, etc. etc.
I recently stayed at Seaglass Cottage, Rainbow Bay, for a week in September. The weather was delightful. Aside from a brief tropical storm that brought a lot of rain (always welcome), the Atlantic was beautiful and I was able to swim several times. The water temperature was perfect and I saw a lot of tropicals while snorkeling at Hidden Beach. The one thing I did not see on the beach was other people. It was perfect!
I like Seaglass Cottage and have stayed there three times. I like it because it's close to the beach, the view is gorgeous, and the house is decorated with seashells and things from the sea. OK - it looks like a beach house and I love that about it.
If you like to cook, I highly recommend THIS HOUSE. The kitchen is really well stocked. You can even find obscure things in the drawers like lemon squeezers, garlic presses and egg separaters! The power went off and there were the lanterns! The owners put a lot of thought into providing all of the essentials AND more (like their amazing collection of music!). I found several seashell guide books on the bookshelf which I enjoyed perusing.
A trip to the beach is a quick walk down the road. Hidden Beach is lovely and the swimming was spectacular. I walked up to the next beach (the Come and Go Beach) and found wonderful treasures. I am passionate about shelling and found some nice specimens! Shelling was also excellent in James Cistern on the seaside.
The amenities at Seaglss Cottage include: terrific view, excellent kitchen, comfortable king size bed, and lots and lots of art. This house does not have the fancy stuff - internet, satellite TV, central AC. The window unit AC in my bedroom was very adequate and I liked feeling the breeze (wind!) blowing through the living room. The coffee table is very cool. It's a glass top table made by the owner and it's filled with seaglass and shells. I felt like I had my own personal beach right in front of me every morning when I had my coffee! You can see a picture of it at the owners' website - www.seaglasscottagebahamas.com.
If you really love the beach, you'll love this house. It accommodates two adults and you'll find plenty of room and privacy, and because it's on the Atlantic, wonderful waves and a nice breeze. The moon was beautiful rising right over the water.
I can't wait to return!
