“Sweet Shacks By The Sea”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2011

Absolutely no disrespect meant here - these are places that I would gladly surrender body parts to have, in a place like this. It's just their style. Located 5 minutes out of Governor's Harbour airport, these 'shacks' sit on Alabaster Bay with a white sand beach that stretches forever with warm, shallow waters that you can wade out in a long long ways. If you get bored with finding starfish or sanddollars, Coco's has kayaks for you to play on. This is one of the most romantic places you will find. A calm, quiet place to unwind. There are 4 rooms to a building, each with it's own covered veranda where you can sit and watch the sunset together - which are awesome on this side of the Island. The rooms are small but very well laided out - we spread out our stuff and it didn't impact our space at all. The attention to detail inside is obvious - the wood gives it a warm feeling, the tile in the bathroom area was cool and clean ( I always like it when the toilet, shower and sink counter has it's own separate space). There is an Ipod docking station for your tunes, wifi in your room, zone a/c that cools the place down very well ( important for mosquito control and yes there are mosquitos and noseeums like everywhere else on the Island ) along with a whisper quiet overhead fan- perfect combo. The kingsize bed was excellent, slept like a log. Good water pressure in the shower. The food was good, the staff very friendly and helpful and the bar always open with a TV for your sport fix - good until 9:30. A great, romantic hideaway - built for 2
I would recommend this place to my boss, it would get me my raise and maybe the corner office. I posted video of Cocodimama's on YouTube -yolotraveller http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xk6tHUWLYuI

My husband and I had such an incredible time in Eleuthera and at Cocodimama, we are still missing it a month later. The location felt incredibly private – it's about a 45 minute cab ride from North Eleuthera airport and about a $100 bucks. But upon arriving, we realized it was worth it: the calm expanse of water was stunning, our room was simple but immaculate and our giant bed was absolute heaven. The rooms are steps from the beach and the two lovely dogs, Governor and Phoebe kept us company throughout our stay. We did rent a car a couple of days (about $60 a day), since it's really the only way to get around and explore the island apart from hitchhiking. But we soon discovered hitchhiking is not only safe, but a perfectly acceptable and easy way of getting around on Eleuthera! The amazing Italian fare at Cocodimama, as well as the kind staff with Sammy at the helm, kept us comfortable and desiring little else. Bring your bug spray, though. Those no-see-ums can be pretty pesky while the sun is going down. But the climate, weather and location were flawless. We'll definitely be back.

No Problem Mon!
This small hotel situated on the Caribbean side of Eleuthera has the friendliest staff and most scrumptous food!
My husband and I started our honeymoon here and immediately upon arrival felt like part of the Cocodiamama family. We were greated with a wag from Pheobe and Governor (the two house dogs) and a warm, welcoming smile from Allison and Sammy...Sammy is possibly the best bartender in Eleuthera! Where everything is "No problem mon!"
If you plan on staying here do not expect 5 star accomidations, rather a cozy room with a king size plush bed-a view from any room of the eleuthera sunset a place to hang your swimsuit at the end of the night.
The atmosphere is serene and calming-the beach goes on for about 2 mi where you will find clear blue waters, many bright colored starfish and the occasional stingray floating by.
The owner, Michael, is welcoming and helpful-esp when our rental car was a no show (I strongly reccomed agains McClain). He told us much of the island's history and pointed us in the direction of all the great snorkeling spots!
The food was EXCEPTIONAL! Bravo! And Bianca, their waitress, so sweet! Try the coconut shrimp for lunch...but you really can't go wrong with anything on their menu.
Adam and I can't wait to return-armed with bugspray, cash in hand (much of Eleuthera takes cash only), out snorkeling gear and sunscreen-maybe a few dog treats too!
This place is for those wanting to escape the commercialism of many of the Bahama islands-bring a good book and allow yourself to relax. Welcome home! We will most definately return. Thank you Cocodimama family!

My husband and I were at Cocodimama for one week. It was perfect! The food was fantastic! The service was also wonderful. The resort is so quaint and peaceful. We had breakfast, lunch and dinner almost every day at the resort. The chef is from Italy and his cuisine is so delicious! The service was great. Sammy, Natasha, Bianca, Francesco and Eanna were so nice. We also met some new friends during our one week stay. My only complaint was the no see 'ums. Pack PLENTY of bug spray. I had two cans and still ran out! The beach and water are so perfect too! I can not wait to go back! BTW... Get a car so you can explore the island!

We just got back from a week at this perfect island getaway. Eleuthera is a small island that has a lot to enjoy. The food at Cocodimama's was outstanding!! The have recently brought in a Chief from Sicily that is a true pro. All the employees and managment share with you all the great places to visit while on the island. I do recomend that you rent a car and explor the 110 miles of beauty the island has to offer. I thought rental was a little high at $70.00 per day but it is the average on the island. But as you explore the island you will find beaches that you could only dream about. You can walk the beaches for miles and never see another person.
The beach at Cocodimama's is also great. It is on the Caribbean side of the island. It is just steps out side your nicely furnished bongalo. The bed is very confortable and the sounds of the sea put us to sleep quickly. It will never be crowded because their are only 14 rooms that share the 2 mile beach. My wife and I will return many more times.

Eleuthera in the Bahamas means freedom in Greek.

Coco Di Mama in Italian, spoiled child of Mama, faces the Caribbean.

The inn was built by a couple from Italy who crisscrossed the world to find this location.

Dozen rooms that face the sea.

I walk the beach with the potcake (island name for strays) adopted by Michael the innkeeper, and search for sand dollars and snorkel in the protected cove at Mama’s.

We swim at French Leave once Club Med where we walk on pink sand.

The color comes from invertebrates that live on the Reef.

Lunch under an umbrella on Coco Di Mama’s ocean front patio in a light rain, what the Bahamians call “liquid sunshine.” A soaking Bahamian tells us to say hello to everyone.

We go to another island.

Harbour Island is full of tourists. After the solitude and deserted beaches on Eleuthera and the atmosphere created by Michael at Mama’s it is beautiful but busy.

Back at Mama’s sitting at the bar with a map of the island etched in shells we drink daiquiris with fresh strawberries while locals gossip about locals.

No development lasts here.

Sheer white curtains open to the sea, terra cotta floors, vintage cooking utensils on white blue-trimmed walls and comfortable sofas.

We dine by candle on white linen.

Mama the cook has one Michelin star unheard of in the Bahamas.

Her Italian kitchen is stocked with meat and cheese direct from Italy.

For dinner I eat a homemade farfalle with black truffle oil, fresh grated Reggiano Parmesan and garlic. Simple and delicious. Tiramisu for dessert. Espresso. Hold the fruit.

When you find a friendly and relaxing hotel and restaurant with a grand view, enjoy it as much as possible. Sunday night is especially fun. Great music to dance to and later a bonfire on the beach. With the other couples and families and yes the 2 potcakes(local rescued super sweet dogs) sitting under a mass of stars watching the blazing fire, you know this is a vacation. All the positive elements in the earlier reviews, we whole heartily agree with.
We have traveled to most of the major Caribbean islands and found that all of them have no-seeums and/or sand fleas. It is the price for paradise in this region.
Another perk of Cocodimama , is getting to know the other guests and planning a day or dinner night out excursion. We believe the other hotels on Eleuthera ( some of which we have tried),just do not make you feel so -"Happy to be There" like Cocodimama.
