My husband and I chose to stay at Shanna’s Cove based on all the “excellent” reviews on TripAdvisor, and we are happy to say all of the reviews are true! Shannas Cove is a wonderful vacation retreat and your stay there is ultimately what you make it. Our goal was to relax, so every day we would lay on the beach, read, and soak up the sun! For the first few days we were the only couple on the entire beach! If you are looking for more activities, there is the Man-O-War trail, snorkeling, the conch beach, etc. Just ask Gabi and Frank and they will help you plan an adventure. Just make sure to pack plenty of sunscreen for the beach and some bug spray if you plan to venture on the trails.
My husband and I stayed in the Turtle cabin which in my opinion, was the best choice! Since it is near the bottom of the cliff (that the resort is on) it has an unobstructed view of the beach and ocean. The cabin was pristinely clean when we arrived, and was cleaned everyday as well. We had plenty of room to accommodate our clothing, luggage, etc. and there was even a mini fridge to store some snacks I brought along. The mini fridge was stocked with sodas, water, and snacks (for purchase), and there was also a basket of snacks like chips, candy bars, granola bars, fruit snacks, etc. for purchase as well.
We stayed at the resort for 7 days (early November 2011) and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. Gabi and Frank are beyond generous hosts and can accommodate any needs you may have. For example, I have gluten and dairy allergies and Gabi went out of her way for every meal to make sure I had a gourmet (meal) that matched what everyone else was eating. I even brought a few gluten-free dry goods (pasta and quinoa) and Gabi was able to incorporate them into my lunches and dinners. Each morning we had coffee, orange juice, fresh fruit, and eggs for breakfast (omelets for my husband, egg whites for me). They even made me fresh fruit smoothies! There were also baskets of bagels or English muffins with a plate of deli meats and various cheeses with fresh cucumber and tomatoes. We saw some other guests having pancakes that looked delicious, too! Lunch was your choice of burgers, sandwiches, salads, or pizza. My husband raved about the pizza. The salads were wonderful as well and very filling due to such large portions they give you! Dinners were always AMAZING three course meals (appetizer, entrée, and dessert). Anything from Gabi’s homemade soups and breads to salads, shrimp appetizers, etc. Entrees consisted of the most divine fresh fish we have ever had. The appetizer and entrée portions are very generous so prepare to be stuffed by the time you have dessert! My husband said the desserts were wonderful as well, and Gabi would bring me fresh fruit (due to food allergies, I could not have the desserts). We also had the joy of meeting Tara who works at the restaurant at Shannas Cove. She greeted us each morning and afternoon for our breakfasts and lunches. She is such a hard worker; kind, pleasant, and funny, too!
My only advice is to try and eat breakfast and lunch a little later than you normally would (if you are early risers like my husband and myself) as dinner was usually served at 8:00pm. Also, if you are from the United States, make sure to leave plenty of time between your flight from Nassau back to the U.S. because you will go through U.S. customs when you get to Nassau International airport.
We loved staying at Shanna’s Cove resort and would recommend it to anyone!
