“Vandals on the Island!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

We honeymooned on Bimini in March, 1979 (Compleat Angler) where we learned it was the Game Fishing Capital of the world. It took 25 years, but we saved enough to return for fishing on our 25th anniversary in March, 2004 (Big Game Club). We enjoyed that so much, we returned in March, 2009 (Bimini Bay) and Memorial Day 2011 (Room above Dunn's Florist).

We chose to visit Bimini for the Memorial Day weekend 2013 so that we could use one less vacation day from work. The check-in scene (scantily clad teenagers with rum drinks everywhere we looked) should have alerted us.The welcome letter stated noise after 10 p.m. and bad behavior would incurr a fine of $250 per instance. What we did not know is that those rules are not enforced.

We had never before needed one, but this year we rented a golf cart ($490 for 4 days). We were not given a lock and were not told that we would need to lock the cart. On Saturday night, our cart was stolen from in front of our condominium (unit 33111). We reported the theft to the security guards at the front gate and never heard back from them again. We also reported it to the vendor. He found the cart and informed us that it had been destroyed. The roof was torn off, the light torn out the front end dented and scratched. He REFUSED to call the police and said they would not do anything. We were hot and tired and because we had signed a waiver and felt bad for the man and his family, we wrote a check for $550 to hopefully cover the cost of the repair. Oh, I forgot to mention we had to put $21 worth of gas in it on Saturday night before it was stolen. We paid $1061 to use a golf cart for 30 hours during which we went fishing, to Church and to dinner. Sickening.

We love Bimini and the people who live there. We will never return on a holiday weekend and we will probably never return to the Bimini Bay Resort.

On our recent trip to the Bahamas we thought we would try the "new" resort on Bimini on our way back to the US. We were on our boat and thought that it would be a great resort since it had two marinas, two large pools and was billed as being a luxury resort. We were docked on the North marina for the "mega-yachts". The docks were wonderful, new floating docks that appeared well maintained. The dockmaster, Hylin, was one of the best we have experienced - he really knew what he was doing and expertly guided us into our slip. That is really where the wonderful experience ended. The maintenance of the facilities was sorely lacking. The pool was shabby, the fountain was not running, the two pool restrooms had no functioning toilets, the water did not work in one of the sinks, one of the two pool outside showers was broken. The functioning toilets and boater's showers were 3 city blocks away. We did not know that we needed golf carts just to get around the complex since it was so big and spread out. Yes, there was a shuttle available to run us around but that meant that we had to call for the shuttle and wait for it to come from the other end of the resort. There was one restaurant open for lunch an two for dinner but, again, two of then required the shuttle. I could go on but I think I have said enough about what w thought of this place. We had just spent 10 days at Old Bahama Bay Resort on Grand Bahama Island which was fantastic. Bimini Bay Resort needs to take a lesson from Old Bahama Bay to see how a resort should be run!

There comes a point when you can't blame poor/slow service on "island time". When we did get drinks & food, it was only after hunting someone down.....if we could find anyone at all. The people at the resort were surly and unfriendly which was ironic given the signs around the island reminding people to say "Please" and "Thank You".
A beacon of hope was Julian at the Sabor restaurant, one of the few places to eat at the resort, and pricey.

Otherwise the resort is lovely, though poorly mapped and the amenities, while nice, are hard to find (we found a great beach bar on the last day by accident).
The resort's casino construction is a bit distracting, and somewhat marred our view.

We were told that Resort Management was recently changed which may explain things, however the poor service, double-billing, and high prices would keep me from going back to Bimini Bay Resort any time soon.

Room Tip: Resort is sprawling so request a room close to amenities (if you can find someone at the front desk)

This is a nice laid back place. I wouldn't call it a resort or even hotel. These are nice condos and house renting short term. The avai
Ability of amenities and restaurants is limited. Only Sabor is better and a bit pricey. Since the island doesn't offer good upscale restaurants one is stuck on this restaurant.
We only enjoyed the beach which has a nice bar(run independently thus no room charge). They try to make it a party bar, but it really isn't with the crowed beinh a mix of families, couples and some partiers.
We did not do any of the sightseeing boat tours, diving or fishing which I guess is a must if you are staying more than a couple of days (otherwise you will get bored).
There is nothing to do in town so I wouldn't spend the money renting a cart (quite expensive).
People are great. Everywhere you go you are greeted and helped. Amazing!
Worth the visit.

My wife and I live in Ft Lauderdale, and LOVE jumping over to the Bahamas. We've been many times, and to many islands. We made our second trip to Bimini recently, and while we enjoy the island, we made a BIG mistake staying at Bimini Bay Resort.

First, it's HUGE. You need a golf cart to get anywhere. And you barely feel like you're in the Bahamas when you're on property. It feels like you're in South FL, which is where we live and are trying to get a vacation from. It's just empty house after empty house after empty house... It's barely even a resort, and more like it's own Mini-Miami city.

Also, the beach is totally eroded away. There's a beach to the north end of the property, but when you walk out to the beach from your room, it looks like a storm just blew through. The sea wall is crumbling, stairs lead to no where, and railings are falling on to what should be a beach.

There's a strong smell of sewage that came and went a few times during our stay. We asked around and apparently thats normal. The whole resort just felt tacky and generic, like they're trying too hard to be something they're not.

The food is decent, but expensive. The staff are friendly for the most part.

But when we went around the island more, we almost felt guilty about staying at that resort. The more people we talked to, the more we realized that the natives are NOT happy with Bimini Bay. Apparently there have been issues for years, and after getting back home we looked around online and realized that Bimini Bay is not somewhere we will spend our money again.

The island is fun, don't get us wrong. We had a great day out with Bonefish Ebbie, who is an absolute blast! The locals are friendly, the island is safe, and there is lots to do, including doing NOTHING if you want. But if you go to Bimini, make sure you check around before booking a room here.

We stayed at the Bimini Bay Resort & Marina and had a wonderful time. The resort was nice and restful; beautiful natural environment; lovely island style suites. Internet WI-FI service was good. Limited number of restaurants to choose from at the Resort. However, the food was okay and served in generous portions. The service provided by the employees was good and a great representation of amicable Bahamian hospitality. Employees Hubert Rolle and Sheldon stood out as being extremely courteous and very helpful...always with a ready smile and very professional. From two very satisfied Bahamian guests.

The 1st thing to know when going to Bimini is get a golf cart.

The next thing is to always say please & thank you. The Bahamians on Bimini are so incredibly nice, friendly & helpful...so dont be that ugly American we've all seen different places.

Checking in to Bimini Bay resort....as you look around and appreciate the absolute natural beauty that surrounds you, is a very pleasant experience. We stayed in a 2 bedroom condo that is so very well appointed it looks like a model in a hip, upscale apartment building.

Central AC is sooooooooooooooooo appreciated....but spend as much time as possible outside. The infinity edge pool facing the ocean will melt your stress away while you sip on a bahama mama (that's a delicious Bahamian drink....get your mind outta the gutter ;-)

The food here is great too.....but then again the food every where we went was fantastic.

If you love sea food.....you can eat everything your heart desires....which is what I did. I had grouper for breakfast & it was awesome.

It isnt cheap....but it is a fantastic property run very efficiently w/ an extremely charming and helpful staff
