“Dolphin experience and Triple S”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2012

We booked a dolphin adventure with Bimini Undersea and it clearly states that there are no guarantees that you will swim with dolphin - they are wild and unpredictable animals. It does say they are successful 80% of the time. With that said, it is a pricey gamble at $129 per guest. We were lucky to have one swim ahead of our boat at the bow for a few minutes (after being on the boat for 2 hours and no luck), and then we attempted to get in the water and the dolphin was gone. About thirty minutes later, we spotted two more dolphins and again we attempted to swim with them. 3 out of 9 of us were fortunate to "chase" the dolphins (saw them swimming away from boat) while the others did not catch a glimpse. We were in the water a maximum of 10 minutes on the 4 hour boat ride. We chose not to gamble again - No one in our group thought paying that much money was worth it, but I am sure if we were successful in actually swimming and hanging out with dolphins, it would be priceless....a couple of days later, we met with someone who went out the day after us, and he saw no dolphins the entire time (but they ended up snorkeling at the Atlantis as "compensation"). However, we rented a boat ourselves the same week, and actually swam and observed three dolphins who stayed with us for almost 30 minutes (they were feeding at the sandy bottom). It was in an entirely different area than we had gone on the tour.

We also went with Bimini Undersea for "The Triple S tour" - Sapona wreck, Feeding stingrays at Honeymoon Harbor and Sharks - 4 hour trip. My kids absolutely loved the stingrays but we were not successful in spotting sharks during our snorkel, though some on our tour were able to see sharks.

Overall, the crew are very friendly and nice. They provide a cooler for you to bring your own drinks, and a jug of water. I have gone with different boat operations in different Caribbean islands where they provide snacks and drinks for their snorkeling trips.

It was quite difficult to contact the company by phone, and communication by email was more productive.

I think if you are comfortable with renting out a boat and exploring on your own and depending on the size of your group, the cost-benefit of using the BU may not be worth it. But if you prefer having a tour operator show you the way, then BU would be a good choice.

“Great staff at Bimini Undersea”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2012

Although the diving wasn't as great as I'd hoped because of some pretty bad weather the previous days, the staff at BU really made it a great experience! Unfortunately, this was Troy the director's last week there. He was recently engaged is is moving onto a new part of his life. Troy was fantastic as a dive op leader, and a Bimini tour guide. I believe he trained his staff well, and BU will still be a very professional operation in his absence. Carlos, his successor, seemed like a very nice guy and I have confidence he will continue on with keeping BU the way it is.

My wife and I are pretty avid divers. More so than you average vacation diver, to say the least. We average over 100 dives a year, so we are pretty self-reliant. With that being said, we tend to like to handle and set-up our own equipment. The staff was very understanding of this. They set up the gear for everyone else, and would just check if there was anything we needed. For multiple dive trips, they rinsed and stored our gear in their shack for us.

If you go to Bimini to dive, you should know that there are NO dive shops there. Make sure you bring everything you need. They had rentals, but there were the typical issues with the rental gear that you had to keep you eye on, such as bad o-rings, leaky spgs, and such. There was a problem with short fills on the rental tanks, but that was out of BU's control. They were relying on the Dive Outpost at the Big Game Club for fills while their own compressor was getting some maintenance done. When a short fill was found, they just swapped it out before the dive.

It was mentioned that BU will have their compressor back very soon, as it was merely an annual maintenance being done, but they will also soon have nitrox. This will make them the only nitrox provider on the island.

I highly recommend Bimini Undersea. Their only drawback is being located at Bimini Bay Resort, which I wouldn't recommend to anyone. If you are staying somewhere else though, they will pick you up on the boat on the way out to the dives.

“Good job!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2012

We had a great time with Troy and his guys. It was a quiet time, but Troy went out his way to get some dives in for us. Jack was a relaxed and likeable dive leader. Bimini is so beatiful that we will sure to go back and dive with Troy and his group.

“Best Bimini Diving In Years”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2012

I've been diving in Bimini for several years and had become concerned that there wasn't going to be a reliable, professional dive service available. Troy and his guys have completely overcome any concerns I may have had! After 40 years of diving all over the world I have to say the new management has got it right! From the boat and gear to the attitude of the staff, Bimini Undersea has taken their service to a whole new level. They provide the right atmosphere and expertise to ensure your Bimini Diving will be a memorable experience!
Absolutely 5 star operation!!!
