Just returned from 2 wonderful weeks in Abaco [1st half of Feb. 2004].
Weather great, Abaconians wonderful people, and scenery terrific.
However, times are turbulent at the Regattas. Although the condos were quite nice [no TV or blender provided -- but they will RENT you one!], there were no intact beach chairs -- not one! All were broken down and dirty. Staff said chairs were on order. Hmm? Also, wide gap at bottom of back door. Transoms were on order. Hmm? Also, lost luggage couldn't be tracked because the phones to the airport desk weren't working. Hmm?
However, a lone staff member thought that maybe by calling an adjoining airline desk I could make contact regarding my luggage. And it worked, but the "manager" couldn't figure out this step. As he confided to a co-worker, too busy looking up Janet Jackson's Super Bowl pix on his computer? Then there was the noisy construction of a private residence right beside the condos. Much gossip about that project. So, chairs, doors, lost luggage, and the construction aside, believe it or not, this was a heavenly place. And Sandrina, long-time staff member, was a dear. This place has so much potential, someone needs to save it from ineptitude.

This was exactly what I was looking for. No crowds, no high-rises, yet there were several good restaurants within a few hundred feet, as well as boat rentals, and various day excursions for kayaking, sailing, scuba, snorkeling and island hopping. The place was immaculate and aesthetic. It has a private beach, tennis courts, with happy knowledgable staff. Life was unhurried and laid back. I don't know why I am posting this, because I want to return several times a year without competition for the rental. The people were all so nice and I even swamped a rental boat without being "taken for a ride" on the repairs. If you want regal hotel-style treatment, you would not give this five stars, but for the relaxation of it all, I give it top billing.

We just returned from Regattas of Abaco. Nice accomodations, great service from staff, Chris was an invaluable source of information. Nice tennis courts (take own racquets), good snorkeling right off beach.
Water was cold in December/January, but not intolerable. Be sure to snorkel Mermaid Reef (just a $6 taxi ride away, or walk if so inclined). Our unit was on the beach, which is where I'd want to be again. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay! Would not recommend Bahamasair, however. Flight delays, missed connection, put up in an awful hotel in Nassau. That was the only bad part of our trip.

Just got back from the Regattas. Had the best week. Very nice accomidations. Not much to do in the area, but that is what we were looking for. The staff was very helpful and informative. The beach area is small but there was some good snorkling right off of the beach. You can walk to several restaraunts and some small shops. Nice area for a quiet vacation.

Just returned from the Regattas of Abaco. It was a great vacation. The staff at the Regattas was friendly and very helpful.

Even though there isn't a lot to do in Abaco, the Regattas is a great place for R&R. I highly recommend it if you just want to relax and "chill" on your vacation.

Finally, we ate at a couple of great places (Mangoes and Wally's) where the Bahamian food was terrific. I'm sure there are other good places to eat, it just so happens that these two places are within walking distance of the Regattas.
