My boyfriend and I got a voucher to go see the caves. I phoned and booked the tour. I even clarified twice with the lady on the phone of the time that we were getting picked up and where. She said to be in the lobby at 10:45 and if we went there at 10:35, that we would be too early. When I asked the lady if we should give us our names, she said don't worry about it, just our room number.
At 10:45, we got the man at the front desk to phone them and they said that they were on their way.
11:20, nobody still shows up, so I get my boyfriend to phone. The company said that they showed up at 10:30 and picked up people. They didn't even check to see if they got everybody. A smart person would realize that oh, the people in 3252, at viva Wynham weren't here, maybe we should get the front desk to phone them. Umm nope.
They casually said sorry to him about the tour, but it didn't seem like they cared about what happened. They asked if we wanted to reschedule, but not much could be done because we were leaving the next day.
It just made us so angry, because we could have gone off and done something much better, instead of sitting outside in the cold.
Based, on my horrible experience with this company, I would never spend a dime to go on a tour with them. Thank goodness, we just had a voucher.
Ben's Cave is one of two caves located directly across the road from the entrance to Gold Rock Beach on Grand Bahama Island. Since we were already going to the beach we made a quick visit to the caves. It will only take you 5 minutes per cave but for a very nominal entrance fee, it's well worth a stop.
While the history of the caves are interesting, it was just a very brief tour. Not worth a trip out unless it is one of a couple stops on a tour. You walk down a spiral staircase, look around for a moment, then the guide walked you out. It was pretty, but considering that I've done more intense cave /spelunking experiences, it wasn't that exciting.
Did this tour as part of a cruise ship excursion along with Gold Rock Beach. The caves for the tour are a small area that you walk down into and right back up again - via a spiral staircase for one and regular stairs for the other (Burial Cave) - but the peaceful walk through the National Park area and into the small cave area was very serene. The cave system itself is quite large but visitors cannot possibly tour that. Scuba diving is allowed with proper authorization. We were allowed a small glimpse of the water pond, stalactites, root systems, and if your lucky there are bats in the cave and maybe you'll see them. Very interesting to see such a unique cave system on an island.
This was a stop on the hike through Lucayan National Park. After taking a metal spiral staircase down to the cave, we saw pretty water that looked stagnant, fish, and bats (yipes!). Our guide told us it was the longest underwater cave that had been mapped, and leads to the ocean. Apparently with the right permission, tools, and experience, it is a cave system that you can scuba dive. Ben's Cave was a quick stop, but was worth the few minutes we spent there.
Note: There is a $5 admission fee to the park
We seen the caves as part of the kayak tour and they are quite interesting to learn about. I was so impressed by our tour guide, Lamont, he was incredibly informative and knows so much about the island! The caves are a great addition to the kayaking tour!
