I visited the Lucayan Caverns on a guided tour with my fiance last weekend and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It's helpful to learn about the caverns from somebody who is enthusiastic about their history and preservation. Go on a sunny day to be sure that the caverns are lit up below. The depth of each is surprising and beautiful. Some people dive in the caves and travel from cave to cave in the tunnels - you must be certified to do this and must do it with a tour guide. The path to reach the caverns takes you through a variety of greenery (which, if you've got a great tour-guide, you will learn how to use as home remedies).
I highly recommend this tour for adults and history buffs. Children may not be quite as excited about it, but of course the fee to tour these caves ($5) also includes access to the BEAUTIFUL Gold Rock Beach across the street - which children will absolutely love.
I booked this tour through Viator.com, which led me to the H. Forbes touring company. Kevin was my tourguide, and he was absolutely charming - very entertaining and a true Bahamian gem.
Don't forget to buy a refreshing coconut water or locally made Gumbay Punch from the van at the beach entrance!
