Our first night at the Pelican Bay the hotel was over booked so we stayed in an awful room at the Sheraton. We were to transfer back to Pelican bay the next day - what a hassle. For our trouble the upgraded us to a fantastic suite! Our room was gorgeous and the view even better. There was so much with in walking distance, the hotel staff and locals were very friendly and so helpful. In addition to the free breakfast every morning served by the pool, we had pastries delivered to our room box each morning. Be sure to eat at Simply Native. It is cheaper than anywhere else and the food is fantastic! The hotel is just across the street from the beach, not far at all, and also offers a free ferry to another beach/pool - which has a swim up bar. The pool was quite and relaxing - few children.

This was our first trip to the Bahamas. Overall, it was a nice place. It is definately a 3-star experience, though, so if you are expecting more, don't bother. I'll sum up quickly with the good and bad:

-The Good-

1) Was a nice location, a few hundred yards from a nice beach and was right on the dock that had a ferry to take you to another cool beach (with a much better pool) and was right next to the Lucaya Marketplace.

2) Nice, helpful front desk folks.

3) Maintainance seemed on the ball. We had a busted AC unit and they came within a few hours and swapped the whole thing out. They left nasty black soot tracked through the room but it was a minimal thing to ensure we had AC again.

4) Reasonable price.

-The Bad-

1) We booked a single king sized bed, but instead we got 2 full sized beds. It was tight sleeping with my wife and when we called we were told the place was booked up solid and there was nothing that could be done.

2) The Sabor pool bar and restaurant was wickedly overpriced for small portions and during the time we went, we were met, twice, with bad attitudes. We went once for their "famous" brunch at 11:35am (the brunch is advertised for 11:30am) and we were told we had to wait (they wouldn't even let us sit down at the restaurant, we had to sit by the pool). After 15 minutes we gave up and ate somewhere else. The second time we came for dinner and we waited around for someone to seat us (waitresses and bartenders walked by us and didn't say a word; there was a sign that said wait to be seated). After a few minutes of awkwardly standing there we went to the bar. After being greeted with a frown when we asked for the dinner menu, we just ordered drinks and left.

3) The rooms are just ok. The floors are tiled and I don't know if it was poor cleanup service or what but it just seemed like no matter how careful we were, there was always grit everywhere.

4) The shower was AWFUL. Worst nozzle ever and the tub was cracked and dingy looking.

5) Clean up service seemed minimal, just folding of sheets and adding of supplies. Floors were gritty and the secondary sink near the fridge was stained and grimey.

Overall, the experience we had was ok but there was no polish to it that made it stand out from other nice places. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful but the rooms were just ok. It also left a very bad taste in my mouth that they didn't make any attempts to compensate for our room being wrong (1 king bed and 2 full beds are a big deal for two tall people).

If I ever came to Freeport again I would most likely stay in a bigger place to get that polish that you normally get from a franchise hotel. Though we certainly enjoyed our stay at Pelican Bay while we were there.

“Best Get-A-Way Weekend Ever!!!”

The suite we had at The Pelican Bay Resort in Freeport is by far one of the best places we've stayed to date. My husband and I were here over the May 29th thru June 2nd weekend. The place is beautiful, comfortable and not your average hotel room by any stretch. The balcony has 2 chairs, a table and lounge. The living room furniture was comfy, the lighting beautiful and ecentric. The bedroom was so inviting. However, you might need a step stool to get into the bed. It was very high.

The shower comes right out of the ceiling, and the preasure is to die for. One of the best water massages you can get on your neck and back. Everything was perfect for our getaway.

The hotel offers each guest a complimentary drink from the hotel restaurant, which was excellent, and had us going back for more. Unfortunately, we didn't dine there.

The MarketPlace is around the corner, and chock full of stores and eateries, as well as the Count Bassie Bandstand with live entertainment weekends, free of charge! Can't beat the atmosphere. Wear your dancing shoes. The food is excellent at any place you try. The straw market offers a great selection of souvenirs at reasonable prices. You can pick up whatever you forget at the "Drug Store" - they have everything. There are a few liquior stores that sell beer by the bottle. The local beer is very good.

The water taxi to Taino beach is complementary of the hotel. If you lose your tag, it is $5.00 each way, per person.

EVERYONE is beautiful, gratious, kind, generious and helpful. They want you to visit again.

Taino Beach resort allows Pelican Bay resort guest to use their beach and pool. The grounds, pool and beach are beautiful, the restaurant serves excellent food. There is a bonfire on Sunday evenings with great entertainment, audience participation!

If you are invited to a free breakfast, be careful you aren't roped into a time-share sales pitch. Otherwise, you might find yourself spending over 3 hours listening to someone trying desparately to sell you a 40 year one week lease.

One the downside, the tub in our room did not drain, so you are standing in dirty water until you turn off the faucet. (It may be fixed by the time you arrive)

The balcony furniture should have had cushions on them, and the lounge had wheels to move it, but they were broken. Nothing that put a damper on our stay. We already plan to spend an entire week there early next year.

Enjoy!!

Spent 4 nights/5days at the Pelican. Had a wonderful time and we really enjoyed the Hotel. The room was very nice and clean. We stayed on the bottom floor and could sometimes hear the people from upstairs walking around, but not all the time since we were out and about. The MarketPlace is nearby (walking distance).

I would stay at the Pelican again next time we go :)

My boyfriend and I took a vacation to the Pelican Bay for 4 nights. Amazing time! Very nice, comfortable, intimate hotel. If you are looking for the big resort style hotels then you can go across the street. The beach at the Westin/Sheraton is great, but we loved Taino Beach and they have a free water taxi on the hour for hotel guests. Not being directly on the beach was not a problem because just being on the water was amazing. The hotel restaurant is expensive, but the drinks are the best we found and very reasonable compared to the marketplace. The marketplace is so much fun! We ate most our meals there and is very convenient.

We also were upgraded upon arrival. Becareful only with the phone calls in the hotel if you make any reservations for snorkeling/diving tours...they charge you for any calls incoming or outgoing!!

Would recommend to anyone!!
