We went in July 2014, it was amazing hotel, very clean, beds were comfortable, food was amazing, the pools were cleaned every day in early hours of the morning. It seems that they have spent a lot to make us comfortable. The only thing was the beach was very small and the people that work there, were not very friendly, but we didn't go to make friends but to relax and have fun. There is a lot to do as far as tours are concern. This was our first time at The Bahamas, we would go back there for vacation in the near future with our whole family.

The resort was fantastic! We have been to 20ish all inclusives all through the Caribbean and this is definitely at the top. Small, easy to get around, safe, clean, amazing food everywhere, service like we have never had. I have no negatives. We spent two weeks there with a big group the first week and five the second week. Everyone enjoyed it immensely. All positive reviews are bang on and negative ones... some people should just stay home.

Resort: Pearl and Stanley hard workers that never stop smiling
Prop club: Daniel, Frederika and and Denise: professional, fun and their goal seems to be to go above and beyond to make everyone happy
Pool bar: Kennedy was very efficient
Social: David, Frank, Andre and the sweet little lady in the ball cap - tons of fun and made us feel like VIPs every day
Beans: all the ladies - always smiling and very efficient
Buffet: Nathan hands down - if he wants he can have a spectacular career in the hospitality business
Lobby bar: Meco a real gem

We stayed at the Memories Grand Bahama Beach and Casino Resort in Freeport recently as an all inclusive holiday through Sunwing airlines.

I cannot add anything that has not been said in previous reviews but would like to add a couple of things that made this a great holiday. I agree that the hotel is old and dated but please remember that it has only been taken over by the Blue Diamond corporation of which Sunwing is a partner about a year ago. You can see that improvements have been implemented in stages.

The only reasons I do not give it a four star rating is the fact that management does need to revamp it. Carpet and chair covers were stained and old. Please get rid of that ugly carpet in hallway. Rooms were small, bedding and beds were nice though. Bathrooms are painfully small. Mini fridge in room was stocked with bottles of water and soft drinks and was restocked everyday. Room service was good although on our last day we were given only one bath towel. Wanted to phone reception only to find out that phone is not working. Being a neat freak cleanliness can be improved. Buffet restaurant manager moved table to allow us to get into seating and what showed under table leg was quite interesting. At least nothing crawled out.

Service in the buffet restaurant was a hit and miss. Tried to eat outside on one occasion but quickly discovered that you are basically alone out there to scour for cutlery and some coffee.

I want to give a shout out to two young men working in the buffet Restaurant. Nathan and Donald, you are making this hotel proud. Such a pleasure to see your friendly faces and joyful presence every day. Not to mention your exceptional service.

Check in was fast and efficient, Service at the sushi bar was interesting to say the least. There was real confusion as to who should serve us although restaurant was not busy. Sushi was good, not exceptional but the Japanese restaurant which is the only one you have to make a reservation for seemed like quite a hit. Service at the H steak house was great and we twice had a very good meal there. Steak as tender as can be. Be prepared to go early ( around 5pm) to get into the queue for this restaurant. Italian was good too and had no line up.

To make a long review short. This hotel has a great atmosphere. People are super friendly and nice. We felt so secure in Freeport. Not on one occasion were we harassed by vendors, taxi drivers, time share sales people from the airport to the hotel. There is a neat little market across the hotel where you can have meals and buy souvenirs from. Vendors were so nice and never pushy like in Mexico.

We have been to several all inclusive holidays in the Caribean and Mexico and the food at this hotel was outstanding. Fruit was always fresh and great variety of food and quality excellent. Thursday evening seafood meal at the buffet restaurant was excellent. Where do you get to eat lobster, crab legs, mussels etc to your hearts delight. Add champagne to the meal and it was a winner. Big line up here as well, so go early.

Beans cafe which served coffee, pastries and ice cream is a gem. Had a nice cup of coffee and a pastry there every evening.

Drinks were also very good. What also added to the great value this hotel offered was the free wifi service across the resort. Really fast service too. Another great value was the free safe in the room. No quibbling about wifi and safe fees like in Mexico. The free use off all non-motorized sport was another great highlight. You could use their boogie boards, kayaks and Hobie cats and there was no time constraint.

All in all a very nice holiday, which we are sure to repeat at this hotel. Would not even look into another all inclusive holiday in Mexico.

Sorry, tried to keep it short but wrote a book, but this hotel was worth it!!

Oh, just one request to management. Please add more umbrellas to beach area. Who wants to get up at six in the morning to be able to secure an umbrella or seat in the shade!!

when arrived found out the 3 requests we had were not met. (no balcony, no king bed and not close to the party we were meeting up with). They had 4 months to arrange something, and couldn't be bothered. Was told, too bad, hotel is full, nothing they can do. The hotel is a disgrace and the (Mis)management is awful...they just don't care...they have their money so don't give a crap if you are happy or not. The answer you get is "that's the way it is". So you are left feeling angry and pissed off with the whole experience. We couldn't get into the only restaurant that needed a reservation because we were told we couldn't register for it until 9 am...husband went at 8:55am and all spots were filled!!! Really? A full restaurant in 5 minutes???? The place is dirty and falling apart. The safety grab handle in the elevator came off in my hand, most of the elevators don't work. One of the side doors are 'off' and doesn't close. The a/c in my room is coming out of the wall. The door hinges desperately need OIL because they squeak so loud, I thought they were children screaming on the play area outside. The lobby is disgusting and the seating is all stained and dirty. The staff couldn't give a crap about anyone, they are not friendly or pleasant. Some are, but they are few and far between. Maids like to come in & out of your room...OFTEN. The drinks were like slushies with a splash of rum in them...sugary and undrinkable. The "Steak House" restaurant was a joke, we waited 1 1/2 hours to have the worst meal ever. The steak was tough and sides, laughable, I got a piece of broccoli, a finger sized piece of sweet potato and a thumbnail sized piece of yellow squash. My husband ordered the onion rings for a side, he got 2!!!We tipped, but felt we shouldn't have and with what we spent on this vacation (comparable to others we have had in the past-Jamaica, Punta Cana) THIS one is the absolute worst deal for the money. The local 'market' wasn't open in the evening. Casino was ok, but I'm not a casino person. I have never been more disappointed in a vacation in my life and we'll never come back. If we could have turned around and left, we would have.

I will say that the beach and the pool were both very nice. That was the only thing that I can say was good about the place.

Room Tip: go somewhere else.

This resort had such a great atmosphere! I have traveled to Aruba, Mayan Riviera, Cuba, Punta Cana etc. and I would make Freeport Bahamas a regular visit. Memories had great food. I am not usually a fan of buffet food but this one was excellent with a great selection. The Japanese and Steakhouse were great too. We had so much fun at the Prop Bar and bartenders Cordell and Daniel were excellent. Social Bar was a blast and Andre, David, Ken etc made every night an entertaining one! Rondell made us some great drinks in the afternoon at Social Bar as well.

The grounds are well kept and clean. The beach is gorgeous and the water is so clear. The pool was nice too. All the reviews about the pool and ocean being too cold must be from earlier in the year. We were there for March Break and both were refreshing and great for swimming.

We had a room with a balcony which is a must. The rooms are nice and clean. Maid service was daily and they never missed a day. Our bar fridge was always full. Yes the washrooms are small but not much is happening in there anyways. This resort was so much fun that you wouldn't want to spend much time in your room at all. We were there to sleep and shower.

We had great service all week everywhere we went. You are on Bahama time and it is vacation so relax and enjoy! The employees never expected tips and were always pleasant. I cannot wait to return to Memories! Thank you for such an amazing week away. See you soon.

A lot of the comments have answered most of the questions that come up so I will stick with the main points that I was looking for before going to this resort.
Room: we booked the island view room aka the non balcony room and found it perfectly fine. If you've stayed at a Residence Inn, Garden Inn ect then you will know what I mean. The bed is comfortable, the room is clean, bathroom is small but clean.

Food: all the food tasted great, steak house was our favourite. If you are a non early dinner eater then show up at 7, grab your pager and go back to the hotel bar. We usually had our drink, met some people at the bar and by the time we knew it the pager was going off. We waited max 40 min.
The local beer at the resort was Kalik which is made by heineken, naturally if you like Heineken then you will like Kalik, it had a resemblance.

Beach: awesome beach and perfect clear water, we went at the end of February and all of the beach chairs were gone by 9:00am. the only time you will get a beach chair after 9 is during checkout days where the crowds are leaving for home and the new groups haven't checked in yet. If you don't mind laying on your towel then there are lots of spots past all of the people and you can get your own secluded area.we found that after 1 pm beach chairs started to free up and we switched over.

Excursions: big tip here, book anything you can on your sunwing flight, it's in cdn dollars. All the excursions on the resort are in US dollars.
We took a cab and went to the brewery for a tour and tasting. The tour cost like $8 and the cab was $50 return, our cab driver picked us up after our tour. The benefit of this is you get a private tour plus you can sample all the beers you want.

Wifi around the resort was great, signal was really good and a lot of people were skyping on the beach.

Let me start off that we got a really great deal on the all inclusive package. I don't think any hotel is worth $2000-3000 (Canadian) a week/person so I am glad we got a deal and were able to experience this awesome gem in the Bahamas. I heard that it recently converted from European plan to all inclusive. Also it is worth mentioning that we were not in the 'Diamond' Club and were in a standard room.

Overall it is hard to find anything to criticize, but I will list some of the highlights as well as concerns:

The food was excellent. Everything was fresh and well prepared with care and attention to detail. The buffet options might have been fewer than in some other hotels but all the food choices were much tastier than the 5 star hotels we have stayed at. The a la carts were first come first serve (except the Japanese restaurant), however although we suspected the hotel was fairly full, the buffet and a la carts didn't seem to be overrun. The only exception was on seafood night at the buffet. It was the only night we really had to line up for anything.
The beach side grill (Prop Club) had a great menu which was also unexpectedly great!

The room was very nice and clean. We had so many pillows both decorative and functional and the bed was very comfortable.
The air conditioner worked very well so we were always cool and relaxed.
The only negative thing would be the tiny bathroom and water pressure. I didn't mind too much but I thought I would note it here. I am sure if we had an upgraded suite the bathroom would have been bigger. As for the water pressure, they are on a tiny island and I am sure water conservation is a top priority.

The hotel itself was nice overall. The lobby was smallish but we didn't really spend time there. Also the the gift shop was tiny however across the street is a huge marketplace with tons of shops and restaurants so I am sure that is why they skimped on the hotel's gift shop space. Duty free at the hotel was annoying as none of the items had prices displayed so you had to ask the lady behind the till.

The pool was cold. I don't think it was heated, but we only hung out there once. It had swim up service in the main pool area.

The white beach was really nice and the ocean was quite clear except on the one rough/windy day. Otherwise it was very calm and we could see fish through the water. Some people were feeding them bread to attract them in larger groups. We also saw a starfish and some people claimed to have seen tiny crabs and manta rays's near the rocky outcroppings.
We did have to get up pretty early to ensure we had a beach chair (8am) and even early to claim a beach umbrella (7am).

The staff compared to other hotels we have stayed at were happy and friendly at all times. They didn't seem to care if you tipped them or not the excellent service, but when you did they thanked you for it.

We did two excursions. The glass bottom boat (~$35ea), and the sail and snorkel (~$50ea) both seemed to be well priced.
The Glass bottom boat was a jaunt to a reef so view fish through the panels at the bottom. It was pretty neat to see them that way. However the real treat was that the crew would then after drive to a different spot, and then tie a large fish head to a rope to coax Caribbean Reef Sharks to the service who would then go nuts trying to eat the fish head. It was exhilarating. Even just seeing the first shark through the bottom sent shivers down my spine.
The sail and snorkel was pretty standard but again was well priced and lots of fun. We had probably almost an hour on a fairly nice section of Reef to cruise around and check out the fish there.
