“Mostly good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

The staff was the very best, sincerely friendly. The food was fine, and the Prop Club was a fun casual place to visit. My only complaint is that I paid extra for an ocean view, but our balcony -- when I could get someone strong to open the sliding door -- was level with a large roof. This is the case for rooms 4064 - 4082. Everything else was superb.

We spent the week of September 20-27, 2014 at this hotel and we were pleasantly surprised by the resort, the beach, the food and the staff after reading the negative reviews and expecting rain every day. We hardly got any rain, we were at the beautiful beach every day. You can walk almost 2 miles from end to end. We enjoyed swimming there. It was low season so we could find lounge chairs with umbrellas no problem. I can see it being a problem if there were more people because there is no shade and that sun was hot. We enjoyed the Steak House the most, we ate there 3x and had a good experience each time. We also enjoyed the Japanese restaurant and the buffet. We never tried the Italian place. We had a nice lunch at the sports bar overlooking the beach. There are also barbecue carts near the beach for lunch each day if you like that. The Wifi is free everywhere, I was able to facetime my kids from the beach. You can also call Canada and US free of charge from the hotel room. The room we had was standard but newly renovated and clean. We had excellent service in the buffet from Kendre and Wilson, also at the sports bar and the Steak House.

Only negative and it almost ruined a beautiful week for us: Sunwing offered an exclusive all day excursion on Wednesdays only called Out Island Tour for $165 US per person. It was the WORST excursion we have ever taken. After paying for this trip that was promoted as the one thing you must do while in the Bahamas, the taxi driver gave us a 2 page liability sheet to sign which basically states you can't sue them for anything even if they are negligent. That should have been our first clue. The taxi van did not have seatbelts that could be buckled and she drove over speed bumps so that we nearly hit the roof of the van. After an hour and a half of driving, we arrived at a port where two dilapidated boats awaited to take us to a desert island. We were 16 so one boat had room for 10 and the other for 6. The smaller boat had no shade or cover so we opted for the larger one which had a tarp for shade. It had no handles to hold onto. It had 3 wooden planks for sitting. We and the two taxi drivers and our boat driver were all squeezed into this small place like sardines. We took a 15 minute drive to the island to visit a shallow pristine beach. Very pretty. We spent about 2 hours there. They were supposed to have games for us-they had hoola hoops and limbo stick. The water was too shallow for swimming unless you walked really far so after a while it was boring. Then our boat had trouble starting and we watched that for a while. Finally they took us to the village where we were to eat lunch and do some fishing. Everyone was hot, hungry and thirsty so we were taken to the restaurant. There was some seating on the covered porch, some inside, and some outside on picnic tables, one with an umbrella and one without. They gave us some sweet iced tea to drink and served our lunch in take out containers. My husband and I got the head of a red snapper, one piece of fried chicken, a few pieces of fried conch, a spoonful of coleslaw, rice with beans and fried plantain. When we saw the fish head, we asked where the rest of our fish was. Our taxi driver told us we have the whole fish. We showed her and then they brought out some other fried fish or something if we wanted to take it. We had already lost our appetite and all I ate was the rice. She then passed around watermelon she had brought in the cooler which was soggy and soft by now. I ate one piece of that. Everyone seemed to finish their meals very quickly so they took us to the pier to finger fish. People did that for a while, but it was hot and after a couple of hours they started to seek shelter and sit and wait for the boats to take us back. We were told if we were thirsty we could buy water and beer in the village which we did. We had brought our own water but drank it on the island. She had some in the cooler but not enough for everyone and there was none after the island visit. After paying $165 US for this ridiculous trip the best part was returning to the resort. I felt that there was no concern for the safety and well being of the tourists on this trip. On the return trip no one spoke at all and when we got back to the resort 6 of the people in our van headed directly to the sports bar to get something to eat.

My mom and I stayed at Memories from Sept 20 to 27, 2014. We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived at the hotel. The staff are super friendly and want to do whatever they can for you. Yeah the bathrooms are a wee bit small but not a big issue for us. The staff are always cleaning and the grounds are beautiful. Plenty of towels in yor room and the fridge is restocked daily.

The buffet was ok, they have themed nights where some are better than the others. We ate at the steak house twice but heard great rewiews about the others as well.

The beach is beautiful, but if you want an umbrella you have to get there super early, but there are always loungers and umbrellas around the pool.

The casino is right next door...which is air conditioned as some reviews say it is not. My mom won quite a few times on the penny slots, I however..did not. Port Lucayan shops are right accross the street along with a staw market at the back.

This was my seventh trip to the Bahamas, but my first to Grand Bahama and I can honestly say that this was my favorite resort and I will definitely be returning!

This is our first resort experience and we didn't expect much after reading other reviews. However, now that we are here ourselves I just gotta say this resort is a 9.9/10. I love everything abt it. Great food that I don't get tired of eating again and again... Staff was unbelievably friendly, warm and always adds just that little effort to make guests feel cared for and valued. Everything is in short walking distance.. I even bought their travel smart VIP membership. (Why didn't anyone else mention this?) coming back here again and again!

Memories Grand Bahama Beach & Casino Resort

This resort was definitely worth the price we paid through a special deal at $600.00 per person for a 5 day stay (including air fare). I don’t think it’s worth the $267.00 per night I see on their website.

Arrival: We rented a car, when we arrived at the resort my husband pulled up front (it was raining) and took the suitcases out of the car then went to park. I tried to get our suitcases up to the door (a small incline) and a valet stood there and watched me struggle but offered no assistance. The staff at the registration desk seemed more interested in talking to each other than helping the people on the line even as the line grew beyond the roped of line holders.

Beware of the woman in the lobby trying to sell what she insists isn’t “time-share”.

Room: Our room (3088) was nice, the view was great with a clear view of the pool and ocean from the balcony. We were hoping for a king size bed but two queen beds were the only rooms available. Our major problem with the room was that there was no hot water most of the time and when you did get hot water it was only lukewarm after running it for 10 minutes. It appears to be a known problem at the resort. The resort is a bit outdated. We were supposed to have the mini-bar refreshed every day but instead of automatically having the maid-service refresh it, they have someone that comes around at random times to ask you if you needed anything refreshed. If you aren’t in your room at the time, you are out of luck. We went to the bar and asked for cans of OJ, soda and water but they don’t like to give you more than 1. The air-conditions are on the loud side but didn’t bother me too much, we did hear other people complaining

Food: The wait-staff at the buffet and the other restaurants was wonderful, very friendly and helpful. The food at the buffet was a 5 out of 10 as far as quality. Also if you don’t go early they will run out of food and not replenish it. The food area was also not well maintained so spilt items just sat there and often times there were no bowls for cereal or glasses for drinks and no one around to replenish them.

The steakhouse was great (part of the all-inclusive), the food and staff were really good. The hibachi restaurant was also very good and our chef was a lot of fun. The Prop Bar which is right on the beach was also a good place to go for burgers & nacho’s. The staff was very nice, the atmosphere is fun and the food is was what you would expect from a bar. The Italian Restaurant had a buffet and a menu to order from. It’s an outside restaurant and the night we went it was raining so we opted for the buffet knowing it would be quicker. The staff there was not well trained and couldn’t seem to pull it together. We were seated at a table but had to keep asking for silverware, napkins and salt & pepper. We never did get the salt & pepper and found the buffet food to just be average.

Alcohol: The alcoholic drinks were a big disappointment; the alcohol was a “no-name” alcohol that had a perfume taste. I kept trying different drinks in hopes of finding a good one but never did find one. The frozen pina colada’s were good until the alcohol was added then came the perfume taste. We found out at the end of our trip that only “Diamond Members” get the premium alcohol.

Amenities: The pools are really nice, very big and the grounds are kept very clean. They do use gas powered leaf blowers every day to clean the walkways so beware if you’re balcony door is open your room will fill with the fumes from it. The activities staff hosted pool parties and did their best to interact with the guests. There was a slide that went into the pool but we never saw it open in the 5 days we were there. The beach is beautiful; you can see fish in the water as close at 3 feet from the shore. You can’t swim too far out as they have it roped off but it was far enough to enjoy a relaxing swim. The beach does have a lot of locals trying to sell handmade jewelry and a lot of shore excursion people trying to sell excursions. We finally figured out that saying we were leaving the next day made them walk away quicker.

We arrived at Memories and after reading prior reviews, were a little nervous what we would find. However, upon arrival, we were introduced to Navardo (supervisor) at check in. He went above and beyond our expectations to make our experience wonderful. We asked for an upgrade to an ocean view room and he produced. He took us to a couple different rooms to allow our opinion to determine if we wanted to upgrade. We accepted. It was wonderful.
The hotel, in itself, is certainly not new and can use some updating. However, our experience and room was great...always clean and attended to. The housekeeping staff worked tirelessly and were on top of everything.
The areas of the hotel that certainly need improvement are the hallway carpets (need replaced) and some general maintenance (painting, etc).
H Steakhouse and the Japanese restaurant were great. The best restaurant was the Prop Club. The Prop Club service was wonderful...great bartender (Cordell), great waitress (Felicia), wonderful service!! Cordell and Felicia made our vacation memorable.
The beach area was excellent. They had comfortable chairs, towels, and a beautiful, clean beach.
The nightly entertainment was always centered around children. Considering we did not have children with us, we certainly did not want to sit and listen to that. I felt more adult entertainment was warranted. In addition, the pools & hot tub closed at 5pm (or 7pm). While on vacation, we looked forward to night swimming, relaxing around the pool. You would think at a tropical resort, an evening swim would be appropriate, especially with no other entertainment (except for families with children) going on.
My suggested improvements:
Leave pools open until at least 10pm (swim at own risk - no life guards needed considering it is only 5 foot at deepest points).
Have basic cookies and brownies available for desserts. Fancy desserts were nice, but a basic cookie now and then sounded great.
Implement nightly entertainment appropriate for all ages
Ensure that all bartenders enjoy the customer service industry....some needed some training on better customer service.
We would certainly go back to this resort....the price, the service, and atmosphere was great. Be sure to tip your bartenders and servers!

Room Tip: We had a resort / ocean view room on the 4th floor. It was excellent. Ocean view did not come with...

Amazed. Stunning. Beautiful. Gorgeous. Hospitality. Welcoming. Memories!

These are some of my feelings about this resort. I could go on and on, however, my iPad is almost dead.

So, without further ado, here's why I said the above adjectives:

Amazed, As soon as I stepped on the grounds. Especially the pool area.
Stunning, When I stepped in my room. Oceanfront!
Beautiful, Watching the sun go down and the lights go on!
Gorgeous, Just a few steps and see the clear blue ocean water.
Hospitality, My husband and I were always given great attention while dining.
Welcoming, No matter where, no matter what, The staff always greeted us warmly.
Memories, For Ever!

There is a casino on the premises and my husband won quite a bit.

The food and drinks are all inclusive--meaning drink and eat all you want! I gained 6 pounds from all that eating.

We liked this resort so much, we decided to join their Vacation Program (Timeshare) and it was reasonable priced and affordable!
