“Don't Book at Taino Beach Ocean”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2013

Taino beach is very beautiful. However, it is separated in 3 sections. We stayed at the Ocean. Please, Please, take my word, you do not want to stay at the ocean!!!! The phone rang all day and each time we answered, nobody was there. The sewage backed up through the shower which smelled terrible. We called about the phone and the backed up sewage and to no avail, it was never fixed. In fact, I read a review stating these same things but it was in 2011 so I thought for sure these things would have been corrected. The tub had a permanent ring and rust in the sinks. You could hear your neighbor like they were sitting in the same room. The connecting doors to the units are so close together, all we heard all day was doors slamming. I cannot that believe that they are still allowed to rent theses units. RCI should be ashamed for putting their guest in these rooms. The flip side was the staff was very pleasant. The bell boy took good care of us and our lodge and he was very polite.

I understand the Bahamas have a laid back style of service but when Tourism is the island number one industry, you'd think they would like their staff to be a little more available and knowledgeable. The lady who "worked" at the water sports info desk was usually outside sitting down and you had to wait for her to come over or have someone tell her that people wanted to speak with her. Over the course of a week, the front desk staff was less than helpful unless it was the night staff, who was surprisingly friendly and very helpful every day.
The beach was clean and very fun to snorkel at. There was always a chair and usually a table with shade available (we went during the off season). The wait staff at the restaurant were unapproachable and often made my partner and I feel uncomfortable. Too expensive for the type of food and quality of service.
The pool area was always clean and the grotto bar was cool but it was not very appealing to the eye. Half empty bar options and bad drink specials. What bar closes at 6pm?????

Our room was very clean and up to date (stayed at the Marlin) STE with Jacuzzi tub behind the bed. The towel exchange was odd but it worked, as long as the maids were in there to actually exchange your towels.

My only true complaint for the people who stayed their during our visit is please only fill up your coolers with ice that is necessary for an hour or two. The ice machines were never working because too many people were inconsiderate and filled up entire coolers. The staff didn't help address this problem.

I really liked my trip to the Bahamas and stay at Taino Beach. I live in Chicago & work at a hotel myself and I needed to get away from all the hustle and bustle. My Mom's friend has a time share here and it was beautiful. I stayed in the "Marlin" building and the room was very clean & we were able to take advantage of the free wifi poolside from our balcony. We didn't have housekeeping service but I expected this since it was a time share & exchanging towels was simple. All the staff was so friendly and personable, from the front desk/concierge, the restaurant and the people on all the excursions. "Captain Carl" who took us to the Dolphin Experience was so friendly and will be remembered! I actually loved how this resort was excluded from much else because it wasn't crawling with kids, it was quiet and very relaxing; exactly what I needed. It is not a 5-star Four Seasons hotel, but I definitely had a good experience and so will others if you have an open mind and aren't picky.

I can't believe how good some of the reviews of this place are. Have these people never traveled to a real resort? We've been timeshare travelers for nearly 30 years and this place has to rank in the bottom 10% of the places we've stayed. The room is dated with mirrors and grimy looking stucco or concrete finish on the cabinets. The marble tile floors are cracked and discolored, including in the shower which made them seem dirty and unsafe. We booked a one bedroom, which turns out to be a combined efficiency and studio. Certainly spacious. It's a good thing we ended up with two bathrooms, as the shower in one had almost no water pressure. We were going to put the Murphy bed in one part up for more floor space, since we didn't 't need it, but it was so dirty under it we chose to leave it down rather than look at the filth! While the pool looks nice, it is worn, the finish is deteriorating, and there doesn't seem to be any cleaning done around the area. A half filled beer(?) glass was sitting on the side of the pool when we got there, and was there a week later when we left. Ditto someone's dirty socks and some other apparel. We tried the hot tub, but the finish was deteriorating so rapidly we left with little bits of black concrete all over our bodies--at least we hope that's what that stuff was. When we checked in we were pressured to buy into a bunch of recreational activities--had to sign up within the hour to get the "discount". We passed. We did take the sales tour and saw that the new units, which are NOT available for RCI trade were much nicer. Wonder what they will look like in 15 years...The resort is isolated. If you don't have a car you are at their mercy to take a shuttle ($4) to the grocery store, and it only goes a few days a week. Be forewarned that you can't buy liquor at the shopping center on Sunday. We had to make another trek to the store on Monday just for some wine. There are some restaurants and shops at Port Lucaya and the resort runs an hourly ferry there. ($6). A taxi to just about anywhere is a min. $25. There was no maid service, although we're were told we would get fresh towels mid week (didn't happen). The staff seemed pretty nice, the restaurant was pretty good and not over-priced, but you wouldn't want to limit yourself to their menu. There must be better places to stay in the Bahamas, but after this trip I doubt we'll make the effort to return to find out. Oh, I almost forgot the $250+ "tax" we were assessed to stay in the unit (on top of the RCI fees and our own maintenance fees.) Rip off!!!

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else.

Someone wise once stated, "A contract is only as good as the parties who sign!" The consumer is NOT protected by contract laws when purchasing at Taino Beach; therefore, the contract is useless (i.e., from the perspective of the purchaser!).The purchaser 'will be' expected to hold up his or her end of the contract, while Taino Beach is free to make changes at whim and is excused from all accountability! I purchased in 1994 and have been disappointed again and again by Taino Beach--a very expensive lesson!

We just got back from a week in Freeport at the Taino Beach Resort. After reading the reviews I was very nervous about what to expect. We stayed in a studio room in the Coral building. I will admit our room was a little dated. There were mirrors covering every last inch of the walls which seemed a little porn starish to me LOL The room however was very clean. We had a jacuzzi and separate bathroom. The resort is located right on the beach but I will say I have seen much better beaches. This beach had a lot of seaweed in the water during high tide. Low tide was not bad. They did rake the beach every morning. The pool area was amazing. There is a lazy river and a water slide and while we were there it was extremely quiet so we never had to fight for a lounge chair. The annoying part is that it is only open from 9-6 but they didn't seem to tell people to leave at 6. The water slide and lazy river were not turned on at 9 and usually closed before 6 which was irritating. We found the receptionist people to not be that friendly. It seemed as if you were bothering them if you had a question. However in general the Bahama people were extremely friendly outside of the lobby and hotel. There is NO maid service which was a first for us but I actually liked it better because you could go to the maids at any time and get what you needed without having them come into your room. There is also NO gym which was annoying to me because I like to go to the gym while on vacation. There is a ferry that takes you to Port lucaya which has several restaurants bars and shops. Overall we had a great trip and I would stay at Taino Beach again but I personally prefer Aruba over the Bahamas.

An older resort with full aminities. We rented through Reservation Network Group. Initially a little difficult but worked out well. The resort is older and across the Bell Channel from Port Lucaya. Transportation to anywhere is somewhat expensive. Nothing is within walking distance. The pool area is very nice with a large shallow stream pool. Sit on a float & circle the island which has a grotto bar. The landscape makes for nice easy nature walks. The resturant is on the edge of the beach with great views & average food. The rooms were clean and descent size. The service desk sells all the usual island adventures at an ok price. I give the overall experience a B-.

Room Tip: The differnt buildings are named. I believe it's Ocean that's closest to the water. Coral...
