“Most amazing pool i ve ever seen, beautiful beach”

POSITIVES
We stayed at the Ritz (aka Taino Beach Resort) situated on Taino Beach. All the staff were wonderful and more than helpful. The hotel swimming pool is possibly the most amazing pool I've ever seen in my life. With white bridges linking individual pools, a pool bar inside a cave, a massive water slide, and private heated hot tubs and jacuzzis inside the swimming. The hotel rooms were also nice and we had our own balcony over looking the sea and pool area. Maid service daily fresh towels etc.. There is a casino beside the hotel but it does not cause noise problems.
The beach is gorgeous, white sand turquoise sea. The hotel has its own restaurant right on the beach so you can watch the sun go down and eat dinner . Breakfast in the morning is a massive buffet with lots to choose from. This hotel is also family friendly and the kids will have great fun playing in the pool.

NEGATIVES
We went during the week wed-sat when i was very quiet and lovely, on the day we decided to check out (Saturday morning) about 150 people checked in from a cruise ship, the line was out to the road! The hotel pool and beach were absolutely ram-packed solid with american tourists and screaming kids. They were all staying for two nights sat/sun. I think weekends at this resort must be very very busy indeed this will mean long queues for food at the beach restaurant and busy sunbeds!!

Would I go back during the weekdays: YES (not weekend)
Would i recommend it to all: YES
Was it value for money : yes

We were there Feb 9-16. This was my 5th time to stay at the Ritz since 2001.
This is the best I have ever seen this property look. They have improved the windows and doors. The cable TV is great now...probably 50 clear channels now. They now have a computer room with internet access in the welcome center. (I did not use the computers, but my brother said it was great.)
We did have a big storm move through that week. We were without power from about 2 am until 10. But unlike past years, they now have a back up generator, so we always had water and the lights outside the rooms stayed on. There was not any power in the rooms, but all you had to do was open the blinds and light came in.
There are still some negatives. The beds are still very hard…just a cheap mattress on a concrete platform. The pool is still not heated…it was too cold for me. (But the warmest day of the week was 81 degrees.)
We had a great time. If you are looking for a laid-back vacation on a beautiful beach this is a good choice.

Choose this resort if you're looking for a simple, relaxing vacation. Resort has nice rooms, ask to stay in the newer buildings, we were upgraded to a 1 bedroom from a suite. Pool is very nice and restaurant on site is decent with a reasonably priced menu and themed dinners for variety throughout the week. Ferry over to Lucaya a few times during the week to have more variety in restaurants...lots of Greek, Zorbas and Le Mer are the best. Shopping was disappointing, not much duty free to find. Staff at Ritz was friendly, there were some activities. My husband was disappointed that there were no deep sea fishing trips due to lack of enrollment. Wine and cheese cruise was nice. Biggest complaint for me were the beds. The mattresses are wrapped in plastic, felt like a nursing home bed. Very uncomfortable and noisy.
All in all, Ritz was satisfactory, we weren't overly impressed but had an enjoyable stay.

“Had a great vacation”

Ritz Beach

Jan 18, 2008

My husband and I along with another couple just returned from a week at the Ritz Beach Resort. We had a great time. Our rooms were in the older buildings but they were very nice. Needed some updating but we had a view of the beach and pool. We didn't come on vacation to spend a lot of time in the rooms so they were just fine for us.

The beach was wonderful and the resort had a great pool. Most of the staff was very friendly. If you made a point to talk to them and interact they did the same. I would suggest looking at some of the tour options before you book anything through the hotel. The staff did not seem to be real interested in finding out what we liked to do and suggesting activities. We rented the bikes from the resort and had a fun time riding to Port Lucaya. Also rented the scooters and found it was very easy to get around town. Traffic wasn't bad.

Took a Kayak tour of Lucaya National Park through Kayak Nature Tours and had a great time. Ask for the tour that has Chris for your tour guide. He was great. Learned a lot about the island from him.

Wouldn't highly recommend doing the Bonfire at the Ritz resort. I agree with the other reviews. The food was good but they started the fire and we got smoked out. Nothing to brag about. We walked the beach to the Outrigger for the Wed night fish fry. Get there early as the line gets very long.

Not as many things to do as we though there would be but a lot of it was due to the hurrican damage even 4 yrs after. Most of the International Bazaar was closed and has not reopened, downtown hotels closed and haven't reopened which has affected the local business owners.

The temperatures were not as warm as going further south to Mexico or the Caribbean but we had a great time just relaxing and not going 90 miles an hour on this vacation all week.

“Loved this place”

Ritz Beach

We stayed at the Ritz/Taino Beach Resort in the middle of August. We absolutely loved it. We got a room in the newest building, facing the pool with a beautiful view and a balcony to enjoy it. We had a standard room (1 bed) with gorgeous appliances, queen bed, beautiful bathroom/shower, including marble floors throughout the place. We brought a suit-case of non-perishable items with us and took advantage of the free trip to the supermarket to get everything else we needed. We did eat at the restaurant the first day because the store trip wasn't until the next morning. We enjoyed the food at the restaurant, but it wasn't anything spectacular. We decided to take the ferry to Port Lucaya one night and we were disappointed with it. We thought there would be more touristy shops and more affordable restuarants, so we decided after that to cook in the rest of the week, which we still enjoyed.
The pool and beach were absolutely gorgeous. We got out early to the beach everyday to get some chairs under the huts, and then in the late afternoon we would hit the pool. The pool bar, which is really neat, has a happy hour everyday, but we would recommend the pirate juice, which is served in a small bucket for $10, and is definitely worth it.
We were roped into listening to a woman try to sell us a timeshare, and it wasn't until we explained that we are recent college grads who just starting working and don't even own our own home yet, that they gave up. We did get a free breakfast out of it and it really didn't cut too much into our day.
We also decided to go on the wave runner tour, which was definitely well worth the cost. You pay for the jet ski, not per person, so if you do 2 on one, it's well worth the price. You get to ride longer and farther than just renting, and you still get to drive pretty fast, it's not a slow moving tour. I wouldn't recommend this if you don't know how to drive one though, as you do have to keep up with the guide and you are out on the open water.
We would definitely return to this resort. If you're looking for a great nightlife and lots of activities, this is not the place. But if you are looking to relax and have an enjoyable week, I highly recommend.
