“Loved it and will be back”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 4, 2012

We just returned from a 5 nights stay at Grand Lucayan. The hotel location is perfect across the street from the Marketplace and right on the beach. We stayed in the one of the island view rooms and it was perfect. The room was on the 4th floor, facing the tennis courts. It was very quiet, there was no noise at all except the sound of tennis balls on the tennis court either later in the day (after 4pm usually) or in the morning (never earlier than 9am). We could hear the balls only if we were staying on the balcony, otherwise we could hear no noise at all. We talk to several people that were staying in ocean front rooms and they were complaining about the noise every morning (hotel staff cleaning the pools, cutting bushes and grass, combing the beach at 6am, etc). We were glad we did not pay the upgrade to an ocean view room after talking to these people.
Our room was big and very clean. The refrigerator in the room came in very handy. We bought water bottles and had cold water available to us at all times. The balcony was large and private, we could not see our neighbors. The bathroom was clean and well stocked with towels, soap, shampoo and conditioner. It was not a huge bathroom, but it was large enough so you do not feel like being in a box.
The pools were very clean and there were plenty of chairs by all the pools in the resort and also on the beach. The hotel staff was more than friendly and they went above and beyond to accommodate all our needs. The drinks at the bar were also good and promptly served after ordering them. A cocktail was $7.50, a virgin margarita was $6.50 and a beer was $5. It could get on the pricier side at the end of the day, but it was not outrageous after all. The restaurants on site offer plenty of food options, but I would recommend crossing the street to the Marketplace and eat there (plenty of restaurants with lots of food options at cheaper prices than the food inside the hotel complex). There is a very nice fitness center on site and a nice spa. Internet is also free in the room (wired, not wireless). If you do not bring your laptop and still want to use the Internet, they have a business center in the Manor House, above the reception, where there are 4 desktops computers for guests to use at all times.
The hotel grounds were extremely clean and well maintained. We enjoyed our stay a lot and we are already considering going back at the end of May.

Great hotel, not a 5 star property but everyone is really nice and the views and landscape are top notch. The beach is gorgeous. The rooms could be more lux, and more updated. Also, the food was ok not great on the property. When you get hungry you to the market next door and eat at lucianos, great food.

Just got back from a 5 night stay at the Grand Lucayan and really couldn't be happier. The entire property was gorgeous and well manicured. Everywhere you looked, looked as if it were from a postcard. The pools were amazing and lead right to the beach.
We checked out just about every restaurant on the property which were all ok.
China Beach was really good and Prop Club was a nice evening bar. Iries was good but service was painfully slow. I definitely recommend going across to the marketplace for dinners and drinks. The gym wasn't spectacular but certainly good enough to get a good workout in.
My only gripe was that I paid extra for an ocean front view and got tucked away in the corner of the hotel which they classified as ocean view. In such a large hotel that was largely vacant, they could have put us somewhere better. Other than that, the place is fantastic and I will 100% be back as soon as I can!

Room Tip: Definitely suggest an ocean front view. Just make sure its entirely ocean front.

We spent the day here, coming off of Celebration Bahama cruise. The hotel is beautiful. The beach / section of resort we were brought to from the ship was beautiful. It was not crowded, had a georgious endless edge pool, a great bar with amazing pina coladas and bloody mary's and lots of chairs with umbrellas set up. As part of the cruise you could opt for the lunch buffet package.. those that took this option were disappointed with a lackluster chicken lunch. We did not take this package but instead walked down the beach to a great bahamian hut on the sand that served fresh lobster and conch ($50 lunch). It was a fantastic day and we would go back to the resort in a heartbeat. (We did not see any rooms)

Recently returned to Freeport after almost 25 years. The area is different but hasn't changed much. Still rather remote and lowkeyed. This is why we enjoyed ourselves so much.
The hotel was in a GREAT location to EVERYTHING.....entertainment, food, casino, beach, scooter rentals....EVERYTHING!
The people of Freeport are so wonderful....can't do enough to please you...help with directions which we needed on the scooters one day!
Recommend seeing the island away from the main town....garden of the groves, national park and beach area, Diamond Sunrise Restaurant in High Rock....Bonfire on Taino Beach.

Room Tip: ask for oceanview rooms.....marina is way across street and not the greatest view!

This is a very nice seaside resort. It was too cold for water activities when we were there, but it was still nice. They have a Star$ which is an excellent addition after suffering cruise ship coffee.

We just returned from a 5 night stay at the Grand Lucayan. The hotel is very clean and the staff were all friendly and helpful. We had an ocean view room on the 8th floor and it was wonderful. The hotel is located on a beautiful beach. When the tide goes out you can walk for miles and it is truly wonderful. I am a picky person when it comes to rooms. Our room was very clean and comfortable. I had no complaints.
The marketplace across the street was a great place to visit and stock up on water and fruit. There is a little store named Santorini's located in the back part of the marketplace. Very small but a good place to buy oranges and bananas at a fraction of the cost of the hotel store. If you buy water at the hotel go to the sundry store connected to the coffee shop. It is $1 at the store and $2 or more at the coffee shop. That made no sense to me but if people want to save money shop around a little.
We had a great time and would return to this resort again.

Room Tip: Choose an ocean front room on an upper floor. We had a corner room and the balcony was super large a...
