I have stayed at this hotel Many times over the last 10 years. This last time was for my sister's wedding with a group of about 50-60 guests. Unfortunately, we were virtually the only guests at the resort and this area of the Bahamas seems to have been hit very badly by the US recession. The locals have communicated that the tourist industry has been so terrible and the hotel was jsut recently bought by radisson- it's no longer a westin. The rooms were still okay, nothing spectacular but they were pretty clean. The grounds were nice but you could tell that it's lacking because the pool was brown on one end of the resort. They blamed it on a hurricane but it jsut looked like they weren't properly cleaning it.
The stores across the street which are usually very busy were also completely empty. WHich MADE IT SO MUCH WORSE- the women and men were literally following us around trying to get us to buy anything because there are so few people. It was VERY annoying.
We were used to fighting for a stop at the enormous pool but we had our pick of seats, we had our pick at the bar, etc. the only problem is that with 0 guest... there is barely anythign open. the casino is normally full but because of the lack of people at the resort they barely had any tables open. THey only opened the craps table on saturday night and that was it.
It was terrible. very sad to see.
ANyway, I'd say there is a pretty good chance that this hotel will close down sooner than later. MY sister went back abotu a month after we were there and she said the place was completely empty. we walked around int he evening and didn't see another person for periods of 10-15 mins.
I wouldn't recommend goign there until it gets a little mroe crowded- it was honestly a little spooky because it was so empty.
