3 of 5 stars Reviewed today NEW

Our family stayed here for 2 weeks - we were able to exchange our 1 week in Virginia Beach (1-bedroom unit) for 2 weeks here (2-bedroom unit).

Pros:
Location - right on the beach (resort had a private beach) and very nice free-form pool; only about 15 minutes from the airport
Staff - very friendly and helpful
Restaurants - Coconuts and Seagrape Grille had good food for reasonable prices (as guests we got a 10% discount), though the service was rather slow; Happy Hour at Coconuts had a select list of 2-for-1 drinks; Seagrape Grille had Italian buffets on Friday evenings and breakfast buffets on Saturday/Sunday mornings; easy to charge meals/drinks to the room and pay when you eave
Shuttles - resort ran a free hourly shuttle to the main nearby shopping area (Port Lucaya) as well as a free shuttle to a grocery store on Monday afternoon
Room layout - 2 bedrooms, each with a queen bed, flat-screen TV and a full bathroom; full kitchen with range, refrigerator, microwave and dishwasher; dining room; living room with a flat-screen TV; balcony
Activities - on-site activities group able to arrange a number of activities such as fishing trips, snorkeling trips, jetski rentals, glass-bottom boat tours, dolphin experiences and car rental

Cons:
Amenities - many of the standard resort amenities were lacking: tennis court closed; substandard spa (though a new spa/fitness center is supposedly under construction) and my wife and daughter did not enjoy the pedicures they got at the spa; expensive WiFi ($12.95/day or $69.95/week per device)
Exaggerated advertising - the resort website and the people who we spoke to for resort information before departing mad a point of emphasizing a couple of features that were exaggerations: the swim-up bar (it's there but it's not staffed - you have to order drinks from the regular poolside bar and bring them into the water yourself) and the "waterpark" next door (a few large inflatable waterslides as well as a set of inflatable platforms out in the ocean - anyone used to an American waterpark would be bored in about 10 minutes)
Sales pitch - we were subjected to the typical timeshare sales pitch - 3 hours of our lives that we'll never get back
Room inventory - we had a few issues with items in the room: we did not have a frying pan in our kitchen and after asking several times, we finally got one for the second week; our bed was made with a flat sheet on the bottom when we arrived so we were sliding around for a couple of days until they remade the bed with a fitted sheet; and we didn't find out until 2 days before we left that we were supposed to have a laundry basket in the room

All in all, it was a good vacation. We would be OK with returning but we probably will not be back because there are other places that we would like to travel to first.

Purchased a One week stay for my daughter. Room was dirty and smelled bad. Floors, walls, door were very dirty. Contacted staff and was told no manager was onsite to assist. Took 2 days to get someone up to mop the floor. Trash around the grounds area. DISCUSTING PLACE

Reading reviews was surprised at some of the comments: First of all ocean views are one bedrooms only. Two bedrooms for owners are facing the courtyard pool area. The units across the street are only a few years old and are rented to anyone that has the money. Thus the condition they are in. If you are coming over for the FREE stay you will get a unit across the street. The last time I stayed at IS was two years ago. The room we were in was filthy. Although MANAGEMENT came and cleaned and mopped the floor that was so dirty your feet turned black. I have never had a issue with not having a fairly well stocked kitchen, glasses, dishes, silverware etc. Unit was stocked with 2 towels, 0 wash clothes for 4 people and we waited hours to get them. Actually we didn't get them until the next day and was told it was because they were short on towels. Remember we are owners since 2003 no special treatment for us. We have friends that love being closer to the beach so they rent it every year and usually we stay elsewhere. They still have issues with the units but since the location is on the beach they tolerate it. We do spend time at IS when we are there. The staff especially at the Coco Nuts restaurant always make us feel like we have put them out by showing up for food or beverage. Some of the staff are friendly and helpful but the majority of them could not care less what kind of service they give you since they will get a gratuity regardless. This resort with location and the concept they have should be a 5 rating but unfortunately they are not. That is a shame the potential is there but the owners don't seem to care once they have your money. They are doing some improvements but they are very slow in doing them. Unfortunately when they do the improvements the maintenance fees go up. You used to have a beautiful view of the ocean but then they built the restaurant and blocked most of the view from the 2nd floor. The laundry used to be free but now they charge to use it. Personally, I would sell my weeks if I could get what I paid for it. As long as my friends continue to use it I'll keep it. Understand unless you are a owner the chance of you getting poolside is slim. If you want Ocean Front you will get a 1 bedroom. Why they didn't build 2 bedroom oceanfront I have no clue but that is the way it is.

Room Tip: If you want oceanfront stay in 1 bedroom. If you want pool courtyard view buy.

I really enjoyed my stay here. I love the staff they made me feel like family (Rico, timmy, kanella and jemaine) the unit my family stayed in across the street were nice and quiet. We have lunch at the coconuts restaurant and it was good but the service was slow. I fell in love with the coconut sunset drink. me and my family is already planning our next trip

Our family's fifth stay at Island Seas. Friendly staff, well-kept grounds and rooms. Not a five-star resort, we know that, but we have been consistently pleased with Island Seas as a comfortable and safe place to enjoy the many beautiful offerings of Grand Bahama. Beach cleaned each morning. Units updated with others under renovation. New cafe, fitness centre and spa under construction. We have owned here since 1998 and property has been well maintained with visible improvements over the years since. If you truly love The Bahamas you will find a true reflection of Grand Bahama at Island Seas. We have brought friends with us on four separate visits, and will do so again. Looking forward to our next visit!

Room Tip: We are vacation week owners, with Beach front room.

We had stayed at this resort 2 years ago and it has really gone down hill since that time!!! The general pool area looks really awesome from the photos, only thing is the pool is only 4.5 feet deep at most! cannot really swim but great for cooling off.
Great beach and you can walk along the white sands for a good distance when the tide is out.
the room? Thats a different story. It is sold as a time share and I would NOT waste my money on this. We had been promised that we would be upgraded to a gold category but despite talking to the office in Florida several times during the week nothing was ever done. REALLY upset about that!!!

If you arrive early in the morning you cannot check in your room until 4pm at the earliest, maybe 5 pm. So they do store your luggage and offer a hospitality suite for EVERYONE's use. I stress everyone as some families seemed to think they could take over a whole room therefore no one else could use the bathrooms!! There are not enough chairs for the number of waiting guests to sit on. Of course you can use the pool and beach area, just be sure to pack your bathing suit in your hand luggage so you CAN swim!
The Room: To start off there were 4 of us in the room, no bedding for the hide abed, only 2 forks in the kitchen. Bathroom floor was filthy, handle on toilet falling off, vanity unit granite was cracked, closet door swing free off its track, dining room table dirty, air conditioning very noisy making it hard to sleep. All the doors around the handles were sticky and dirty. Kitchen was very poorly equipped, no frying pan, cookie sheet, no salt and pepper or paper towels. Room door did not shut without slamming as metal frame was warped. Put in for a wake up call but never got it!
If you stay a week they only give you 1 free shop on Mondays to the grocery store, be prepared for VERY high prices in the store.
The resort used to offer free pick and drop from the port, but not any more, a taxi is $33.00. It was cheaper to have Dominos pizza delivered from the Market Place!!! $1.00 for delivery!!!

Oh and you want wifi? If you are just a regular guest it is 70.00 PER device for the week, $40.00 if you are a gold guest and free if you are Platinum. It used to be free at the pool area!!!

When we had a our mandatory Timeshare presentation the 90 minutes promised turned in to 3 hours! Interesting guy, he just wouldn't stop talking! We handed them our list of problems, so at the end of the presentation they showed us the new Diamond suites!!! Well, this is what I had expected OUR unit SHOULD have looked like. He then told us that our building was about to be closed for renovations. Gee thanks!!! Don't get sucked in on the 299.00 timeshare Florida/Freeport deal if it is staying at this resort!
They are putting in a Starbucks and a new gym facility. Seems that they should work on renovating the rooms first.
My husband went down the the International Market Place, different from the Port Lucaya market place, and it was in a bad state of repair due to the hurricane and hardly any shops even open. The island seems to be struggling to get back on its feet.
The people are very friendly despite all this.

Our highlight was swimming with the dolphins at Unesco, amazing experience and second time!!

Room Tip: IF you do stay here make sure stay in a unit around the pool area and not across the street in the M...

This was our first time in the Bahamas. I had some preliminary thoughts as to what this resort would be like. I'm happy to say my fiancee and I were quite surprised. First off, the staff is beyond happy to help their guests. Just to name a few of them, Sheila, Tory, Jermaine, Debbra, Angela, and the entire housekeeping staff were SO pleasant.

As a hospitality manager myself, I had my expectations. Everyone acknowledging the guests was a delight to see. Although lunch service was slow at times I didn't mind, I was on island time and not watching the clock. Breakfast was great as was the service. Tory and Jermaine at Coconuts bar are a true asset to your resort. The guests simply love them. The room was clean and just what was needed. Sorry folks, if you are looking for a Ritz-Carlton type room go somewhere else! Everything in the room worked properly and necessarily updated.

Thank you for an unforgettable first experience! Hope we can return one day!

Room Tip: Choose the Blue Marlin or Coral Building.
