I approached this trip with trepidation based on the reviews. I found the price ($140 per night for 2 people, all-inclusive) irresistable. Next time, I will resist. The idea of having the reef and food both easily accessible sounded like a good idea. Not. We arrived on Thanksgiving Day to a most unusual display of food. I have had better hospital cafeteria food. I meant to take a picture of the mangled, dried out pizza that was obviously left out for hours. The diet coke was by far the best part of any meal, and even that ran out. The food was cold even when we were first to arrive and saw it being brought from the kitchen. Then empty platters were left with just a few morsels on them, never to be replaced. Many of us were wandering around, looking at empty platters and other gross remnants trying to formulate a plan. We tried the "specialty" restaurant and found it even worse! My pasta was cold goo. The pizza arrived cold, with the cheese congealed. They were so understaffed, we waited for 30 minutes between "courses" of goo. We amused ourselves by watching other people get irate as they sat without a morsel. We decided it was better to eat the food at the buffet in a reasonable amount of time. We also decided it was a good idea to fill up on hot dogs and hamburgers at the Pool Shack. Not. It took literally 45 minutes to get a hot dog. The next, and ultimately best idea was to walk away from breakfast with cereal, milk, and yogurt, and eat that throughout the day. Given more time, we would have taken cabs elsewhere.
I feel fortunate we had a room overlooking a dumpster (along with sundry bathtubs, television set boxes, junk). It was fortunate because it was quiet and peaceful. I could actually hear the ocean waves in the morning.
The dolphin dive with UNEXSCO (not booked through the hotel) was amazing. Be aware that the bikes are broken down as well. Mine only had a left pedal; the right pedal was more of a stump. Expect extra exercise in actually moving it forward. Still, we enjoyed a nice ride to a nearby beach. The snorkeling and trapeze lessons were great fun. It was fun and convenient to take off in a kayak on a whim. It looked like people enjoyed the dance lessons and water aerobics as well.
