Dont expect Wyndham Hotel standards, Its NOT a 4 0r 5 star Resort. More like a 2-3 with potential of being better. The layout of the property is probably the nicest ever, right on the beautiful beach, lots of plants, romantic walkways, flowers and green grass. Loved the large Dining area, open windows, beautiful wood timber ceiling, had a feel of being in Africa on a safari resort..Rooms were we in were recently refurbished, but the overall workmanship was obviously poor. all tile shower, with crooked tiles, plumbing fixture was a nightmare to figure out, would turn every which way. then sink had old fistures, with crapping caulking, broken outlets everywhere. doors were filthy, in need of cleaning., obviously painting the doors and walls was not part of the refurbishment. Our door jammed, many of the replaced wood on the fence, rails and door jams throughout the property were unpainted.
Room was average size, two queens with balcony ,view was unbeatable. lack of furniture for cloths, cases etc, but did have a nice safe in room. There was a concern on arrival,Ill get to that later. oh! the bus route is quite disappointing, the homes and business along the 20 min route were all in need of repair, and had that unkempt look to almost every building, I was surprised at the level of poverty on the Island, it was quite saddening..
We booked a last minute cruise and with 2 nights stay at resort. On arrival to the Resort, we were asked for our Hotel Voucher, which we obviously had not received from the Cruise folks. The fron lobby "lady: pretty much told us to step aside while she continued to check in other guests, without any discussion about this voucher she needed. I pulled out the cruise line confirmation but it did not have the hotel name on it so she was adamant we weren't getting checkd in. I called the 800 # from Guest relations phone, as she wouldnt let me use hers at her desk. The cruise lin confirmed my stay and told me they would contact hotel and send reservation ,and apologized for mix up, After 20 mins we approached fron lobby clerk, she said NO I havent heard from anyone, but gave us wrist bands to enjoy the activities of the Resort, and she made no attempt to help us with our problem, SHe told us to wait an hour. So we did, and still she siad the cruise line hadnt called. I called the cruise line again, andthe agent said she was frustrated, because she couldnt get through to hotel, I stayed on the line as my partner ran across the lobby to front desk, andasked the front desk :Lady" to take the call from cruise agent, then the mindblower. The front desk "Lady" told the cruise agent that it was no use calling the hotel reservation because it was Sunday and they werent open till Monday....we were like what the F...., its keystone cops for almost 2 hours, eventually the cruise agent emailed our confirmation, and we got officially checked in, but The "lady" whose name was Jedda, was NO HELP at all, she did give us a wrist bracelet, but she had no intentions of helping to resolve our issue...
Another waste of time , were the guys at the Aquatic hut....they advertise free snorkeler gear, kayaks, free sailing lessons. We were told all day Sunday:, No sailing, No snorkels, No kayaks, even tho all the gear was in sight. Truth was it was Sunday and NO boss around, so they weren't doing any work. . Eventually late Sunday afternoon, I walked up and told them give me paddles Im taking a Kayak, they handed the paddles over. Monday was a whole new attitude, but the GM was out and about. I suggest you purchase the gear from the gift store, as I couldnt help notice the snorkel gear wasnt cleaned between customers use.
I have mixed feelings on the Resort, it is in a beautiful setting, it has tons of potential, but the "animation" staff are lazy, most have poor English language skills, and seem to do as they please. Drinks are all inclusive, but cheap no brand Liquor, and punches, frozen drinks are watered down, grub was pretty decent and plentiful. Dining area was beautiful.
Do not expect Wyndham standards , it a low class rated hotel being sold as a high class rated Resort. The beach peddlers are friendly but can become quite annoying..Sunday was a show down between security and the Beach Bully Peddler, it was quite tense at one moment, with threats being made to the young, clueless security guy, who had no control over the beach bully peddler, a girl and her boyfriend, who seemed to be destroying all the natural reef beauty, by digging up shells, starfish, coral, whatever they could pull out the sea to sell to the Resort tourists, I really didnt like that part at all. watching them hall a cooler full of "findings" back to the beach.
This time of ear was perfect, temperature, we had most of the beach to ourselves, and plenty of choice of loungers at te pool and beach. Its a shame really, looks like a lot of TLC is needed throughout the Resort, and some swift changes in Lobby staff, there are plenty of Good Bahamians, with the right attitude , Im sure that are more than capable of running the front desk, first impressions are lasting impressions.
Hope this helps, I think the Wyndham people need to revisit and put some much needed dollars into the Resort,
Bimini cottages are far enough from noise in the rec area, and have great view of beaches.
