Checked in with my wife and were given a room with two double beds, not the King we booked. Rooms were ill equipped (no hair dryer, iron, etc.) Housekeeping did not come for the 2 1/2 days we were there despite repeated calls. So, no toilet paper, towells, or linens. The phone nor the aircondition worked at all. The manager appears to be a mythical creature that is better garded than the president, because we weren't ever able to see or speak to her. We checked out after 2 1/2 days of a 7 day stay, not caring if we had to pay for 2 hotels as long as we didn't have to stay in that one. We checked into Pelican Bay at Lucaya and had a wonderful stay. So good that a letter of thanks and recommendation was left at the front desk. I feel sorry for the poor front desk people at Xanadu who are hung out to dry by the mangement in having to deal with the many disgruntled guest I witnessed complaining in my short time there. In closing I would like to let anyone reading this know YOU ARE A FOOL if you book with Xanadu.

I just returned from a 4 day stay at this place. If I can keep anyone from wasting their time and money on this dump, writing this will be worth my time. The place may have been halfway decent before the hurricanes last season. It looked like a bomb had been dropped on it. One entire building had been gutted by fire. Many other rooms were under rennovation...the one next to us was completely gutted.
The beach was very small, eroded, and dirty. Broken glass, seaweed and construction debris littered the beach. There was a barbed wire fence on the property line at the beach (can't tell if they were trying to fence the guests in or strangers out)! They had loud hard core rap music blasting on the beach with every 4 letter word you can imagine. I asked the security guard to do something about the music because of my children, but he said he couldn't do anything about it. We had to get sandwiches on the beach, because there was nothing else to eat and no vending machines. The food was so bad we threw it in the trash....$7.50 hamburgers!
My kids had planned to do the water sports that were advertised on the internet, but there were none, due to the hurricane.
The place was so isolated, we had to get taxis to get to any services or restaurants and the taxi drivers worked for the hotel, so prices were outrageous. The idea is to trap you there, so you would have to pay their ridiculous rates for food--when you could find some--or pay a taxi to take you to find some. Lucaya was the only decent place on the island, and it was not that great either. After 1 day at Xandu, I was trying to book a flight back home. Couldn't find one , so tried to get into the Sheraton, but they were booked. I was so stressed, I ended up with a migraine and had to get a taxi to go to the hospital (a third world experience--filthy place) to get medication and spent the rest of my vacation in bed, listening to the construction crew hammer overhead.
The staff was rude and had no interest in whether you came back or not, unless you wanted to buy a timeshare. CAN'T IMAGINE ANYONE BUYING A TIMESHARE THERE!!!! BOTTOM LINE---IT WAS A NIGHTMARE AND A COMPLETE WASTE OF MY HARD EARNED MONEY. STAY AWAY!!!!! AS A MATTER OF FACT, STAY AWAY FROM THE BAHAMAS.....BORING, DESOLATE PLACE.

I stayed at Xanadu with a few friends and we all agreed it was beyond horrible! We stayed March 14-18 and our experience with Xanadu was miserable! Upon arrival, we found our room to be filthy with alot of hurricane damage (including mold on the walls, carpet and lampshades). There were no towels, soap, shampoo etc. or even a trash can! We politely asked the staff for just towels and a waste can- 8 hours later, and two trips to the front desk, we finally recieved the towels (we never had a trash can our whole stay).
I have never been treated so rudely before in my life by the staff at Xanadu. They seemed to hate Americans! We were a very polite group yet they were completely rude about everything. If we asked for a taxi to be called they just said NO and walked away. It was unbelievable! We are such an optimstic group that it almost became comical! Literally, I have never been treated with so much hate and direct rudeness for absolutely no reason what so ever. I am amazed this place is still in operation. I will never return or advise any one to make the same horrible mistake that we did.
On top of all of this, taxi rides were required to go anywhere. Xanadu is in the middle of nowhere. They have their own taxi drivers who will not start the fare for you or allow you to take another taxi service. They make up the prices and allow no room for compromising. It was such a monopoly! It was also very inconvenient that there are no vending machines on the property or anywhere near the place. So if you are ever thirsty or hungry after 5pm (when everything closes) you must pay the Xandu taxi drivers a ridiculous amount of money to drive you into town.
Clearly, there is no reason for me to write a bad review except to save you from the horrible treatment and service that we recieved.

This hotel is run down even though renovations have occured. We were offered to participate in a time share meeting and declined. The service was horrible. More than anything I would tell people to stay completely away from the Freeport/Grand Bahama Island. All of the locals are rude and could care less if you are there or not. The place is rundown and has seen its better days. The only decent place we visited was Our Lucaya. If you saty there, plan on not leaving the area or you will be disappointed. I will never go back to any Bahama Island.

This hotel exceeded our expectations! After reading the negative reviews, my finance and I wanted to change our reservation, but I am glad we gave things a chance and gained our own opinions. Our rooms were clean and nice. New carpet. Nice beds. Nice size bathroom. Nice view. The people were incredibly nice! We loved the restaurant on location. The food was delicious especially the conch fritters, fried conch, turkey clubs, and burgers! The prices were good. The conch fritters were 3.95 and the burger and fries were 5.95. The fried conch was like 12.95 or something like that. The prices were not that extreme like we read like $15 for a burger and fry, but the taxi was pricey. We payed $14 to go to Port Lucaya and the same back. Others did tell us that they found cabs that will take them where they wanted to go for $4...we did not find that. Yet the drivers are nice people. The Bahamian people are soooo polite and nice also. They are open to share their stories about how the hurricane affected them. The Xanadu beach was clean and water was so clear. The Xanadu is a quiet, relaxing environment, which I enjoyed coming to after the loud fun in Port Lucaya. I suggest that others go to Port Lucaya for shopping, another view of a beach, and eating. Also, go to the activities director and partake in an activity like the sunset cruise, snorkeling, parasailing, etc. We went snorkeling at Paradise Cove and it was beautiful. The only thing that would have made me rate this hotel 'excellent' would have been if they had our King size bed, but their hotel had a fire on the left side and burnt their king size bed rooms. My final remarks are that one should go and have their own experience. Every experience is different and ours was a pleasant one. Others there agreed. Some people make bad reviews because one person made them mad or upset that other countries don't have the luxuries we do as Americans. We all have our own minds. So pack up your clothes and have a lovely vacation at the Xanadu Beach Hotel!!! You'll have a great time.
