“Nice Stay - Clean - Value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

We stayed at Pelican Bay for 5 nights. Clean rooms and great location. We were diving and Unexso Dive Shop is located right on premises - great dive staff and nice cafe (will provide review under their name seperately). Walking distance to the Lucaya shopping area, where you will find lots of places to dine, we ate numerous times at the Greek Restaurant and also tried Flying Fish which was located in the same parking lot as the hotel - it was worth the price and the food was delicious. If you want to spend $40-50, take a cab to Pier 1, the sushi there is great and they feed the sharks at 7,8 and 9pm. Great experience.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2013

We stayed at Pelican Bay for 9 nights and had a good time.
The only negatives were that my 18 year old had to sleep on the sofa bed with its very very thin mattress. Thankfully he was exhausted from diving so slept ok. Secondly the chair and sofa were almost impossible to sit comfortably on as they had both seen better days.
The positives are.. Very friendly staff. Sorted out our air-conditioning problem very quickly. Beds very comfortable so slept well. We took breakfast at varying times from 6.30am and also at 9.30 and found all options well stocked and of a good standard. Little basket if fruit and cakes useful (but not enough for 4 people though). Fridge kept drinks very chilled and good selection of Nespresso which were restocked daily. Television worked well. Enough hot water in the shower for 4 people. Great location for UNEXSO. Literally roll out of bed and you are there. Great view from our 4th floor room. Used the little ferry to Taino Beach most days and the beach was quiet except for jet skis. Always found shade and an umbrella. Great location for the market place with all the shops and restaurants. Hardly used the 3 pools but when we did we were often the only ones there.

Room Tip: Great view from room 435

Dear Liz K,

We are happy that you and your family had an enjoyable stay while visiting Grand Bahama & Pelican Bay hotel. All of your negatives were noted and read by our team. We apologize that the sofa bed was uncomfortable, we don't recommend them for adults, but suitable for small children. A rollaway would have been much more suitable for your son.

We are grateful for the feedback you provided, your review whether negative or positive is extremely important to our continued guest improvements.

We hope to see you on a return trip to Grand Bahama Island, trusting that you would be returning to our hotel for another happy stay!

All the best,

Della Bridgewater

Great view of the water, very clean, friendly staff, and steps away from the marketplace. Only problem is we went for a wedding and everyone had rooms all over the place (not near eachother at all). Also, don't bother with the breakfast unless you're getting up at 8:00 AM or earlier. They only serve breakfast until 10:00 and there's basically nothing left by 9:00.

Room Tip: Stayed in a room with two doubles -- overlooking the water

This is a nice facility. It has a great view of the bay. There are 3 swimming pools. It is close to the market. It is not on the beach. We enjoyed the location and taking the water taxi over to the beach. The views of the bay/intercoastal had their own charm. The service at the hotel was very good.

Had been on island for nine days and stayed at two different properties. Flight got cx and have never been treated better!!!! Check in at 10:30 am, no wait. Staff was so nice and would have done anything I needed. Food great, room was basic, first floor..nothing major, but if staying multiple nights would give it ago. Corners of room not so clean and safe didn't work, but I would stay again.

Dear Lizzie56,

Thanks for taking time to write a review on your stay last month! Your brief remarks were noted and shared with our team. As for the safe, it is important for me to mention that you may have thought it was not working because the key block was missing. Those have to be requested at the front office, we apologize if this was not communicated.

Thanks again for visiting our island and giving us a review. We're happy you got home safely!

Very clean hotel, with friendly staff willing to go the extra mile for you. On site restaurant is terrific with fresh fish and meat dishes available. Three pools and walking distance to shops and other restaurants. On site breakfast is hearty and varied. Security staff is wonderful.

2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2013

I stayed at the Pelican Bay at Lucaya from for a few days in late June and early July 2013 and was very displeased overall with the entire experience. The room I had wasn't very nice (uncomfortable beds, paper-thin walls, crappy 19" CRT TV with fuzzy cable, etc.) The bathroom was not thoroughly cleaned (blood spots and stains on the walls). The staff are not very friendly either, besides a few folks who maintained the grounds there. It was very noisy from he surrounding rooms a lot of the time. I didn't get a good night's sleep the entire time I stayed there. The hotel's bar/restaurant "Sabor" is okay, butmthe staff there aren't friendly or accommodating either. They seem to do just enough to get by, but that seems to be the standard on Grand Bahama Island where rude, unfriendly, arrogant and generally un-hospitable people are the norm. I have to work on the island for now - unfortunately. One weekday night there was some event going on at Pelican Bay and there was absolutely no parking available for actual guests of the hotel. I had to park at the Lucayan Hotel and walk to my crappy room at Pelican Bay. I have stayed at other hotels on Grand Bahama Island and I will never stay at the Pelican Bay again. The crappy Wyndham at Fortuna Beach was a better experience, which is sad. It was a depressing experience for me to stay at Pelican Bay. I wish I never stayed there at all. The Lucayan Hotel is probably the best bet on Grand Bahama island but it isn't all that terrific either. I shouldn't even give the place 2 stars...

Room Tip: A suite on the east side of the property might be nicer.
