Caged parrot was best part. Otherwise...a walk in the woods with not much to see. Tree markings were just okay. Good to learn that there are no venomous snakes on Grand Bahama Island...only venomous spiders.
Rand Nature Center is a peaceful place, a good change from the same beach scene. The pond and gardens were pretty. It's not a whole lot of walking/hiking and doesn't make for a very long activity but there are nice areas to sit and listen and reflect. Donny the Bahaman Parrot was the best part. The price is cheap and the proceeds go to a good cause-The Bahamanian National Trust, which is dedicated to conservation of the island. In the main building there was some good information about the nature and ways to preserve it.
Very nice walking area, didn't see many birds, but very much enjoyed walking around the area...Only $5
A lovely forest walk to a pond where frongs jump and hummingbirds hover. Lizards dart around on the paths; lots of interesting birds in the trees. We visit on every trip to GBI.
Be prepared! Wear your bathingsuit underneath! The beach across the street is amazing. It's where they filmed Pirates of the Caribbean 2! Breath taking!
