My friend and I went on a girl's trip for a few days and decided to do a bit of snorkeling/kayaking. I saw the reviews that Deadman's Reef got here on tripadvisor and made a reservation. They picked us up right at the port where our cruise ship docked. Our driver was an island native and gave us a full dissertation on the history of the island, bush medicine, his family, the industry, etc. It was fascinating! We got there and found ourselves on a beautiful private beach surrounded by incredibly friendly staff. We kayaked for an hour or so and then went snorkeling. We swam out to the reef with fairly low expectations because it was so close to shore. We were blown away!! The reef was incredibly full and thriving with diversity and was unexpectedly deep! We saw hundreds of multi-colored fish, a big sea turtle, couple sting rays, and a barracuda. After we were done we rushed back to shore to catch the 12:30 shuttle back to our ship, but we missed it. However, Barry (the owner) offered to bring us back to the ship himself in his truck. This turned into 4 hours of the most amazing tour of the island. He took us to a bunch of local beaches, the nature preserve, a local fruit market, and all over the western part of the island. It was definitely an incredible experience. Thank-you Barry!! I will definitely be back to see you.
