My husband and I stayed at Sandals 10/22-10/31. We were married on the property on 10/25. We had a great time!!!! We absolutely loved the resort and our wedding was better than we had imagined. I'll go into some detail:
Rooms: We stayed in room 408 in the "older" Manor building. We were upgraded upon arrival from the most basic room to this concierge level room for free. We had a balcony with a view of the pool and ocean! We also had a fully stocked mini bar with sodas, juices, and champagne. There were also bottles of liquor in the room. We also looked at a room in the Windsor building when we arrived, which they offered us for $500 extra for the 9 nights. It had no view of the ocean, but it was a little larger. We in fact preferred the Manor over the WIndsor and ironically I thought our room was nicer than the one we toured in the Windsor building...plus it was an upgrade for no additional charge! Our room was clean, nice, had a four poster bed, and a large bathroom. There was some areas where I noticed slight mold, but come on! you're on the ocean. Give me a break! There is moisture in the air! The water was always hot, and brushing our teeth with faucet water was not a problem. Our mini bar was restocked regularly with NEW items.
Staff: Everyone was wonderful! So happy and friendly! Willing to help in any way possible.
Food: Fabulous!!!!!!!!!! Baccarat is a must! We ate there 3 times. You do have to make reservations 48 hours in advance for Baccarat. You do not need reservations for the others. If you want to eat around 7 or 8, you will have quite a wait. We found that if you show up at 6-6:30 when they open, you can just go right in and get a table with no problem. The Crystal Room was our second fave. Cassanova was delicious too. The outdoor cafes were really good especially if you steer away from the fried foods. The morning "buffet" was incredible. We had omlettes made to order every morning and french toast and pastries and fruit. There was much more to choose from as well, pretty much anything you can imagine. The only restaurant I didn't care for was Kimonos. Others in our group liked it, but I eat at Benihanas about once a week and Kimonos just couldn't compare :)
Drinks: Wow, a little alcohol in the Bahamas is still alot of alcohol! They always served my promptly and with a smile!
Other guests: Sadly, I saw alot of rude people staying there! I can see why some people just don't have a good time. People treat you how you treat them and since we were always kind and smiling, that is what we got in return. Never had a problem with anyone.
Wedding: Cara was our coordinator on site. We chose to be married on the pier for an extra $350. They had it decorated with flowers even though we did the BASIC weddingmoon and did not opt for any decor. My bouquet was beautiful. You can choose whatever colors you want. If you want roses or specific flowers it is a charge. My bouquet was daisies and tiny carnations (not a fan of either) but it was beautiful and included in the weddingmoon!!!!!!! The cake was pretty but ok tasting. The reception h'orderves were really good: fruits, cheeses, crackers, dips, etc and all were presented very nicely. The reception was outside on the terrace of one of the restaurants, and was peaceful and seemed really private. The reverend provided us with a religious ceremony that was better than anything I've ever heard at a wedding in the states. He did an incredible job! Had everyone in tears! Our photographer was so great too!
Private Island: This is a must do! Take your own snorkel gear though. They no longer hand out snorkel gear due to liabilities. We snorkeled on the back side of the private island and saw squid, an octopus, a sting ray, a sea snake, and all kinds of cool fish! Better snorkeling than I've seen on other excursions.
Overall, we had a fabulous time! It exceeded our expectations. The resort is older, and yes, could use some paint here and there and I did see workers painting stuff constantly, then would see scuffs on the freshly painted doors the next day :(. Keep in mind, this is an island! It is not a metropolis! They do things differently on the islands. Be respectful of there "island time" and their culture. They are not lazy, just laid back. The resort is beautiful, take it for what it is. If you are picky and snobby you may want to choose another place :) If you are a go-with-the-flow type of person you will love this place. There were no crazy drunks there, just people ranging from their 20's who just got married to lots of people in their 30's, 40's, and 50's celebrating anniversaries. It is a couples resort, although our families that joined us for the wedding had a great time too!
