“Top notch facilities, service not so much”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 5, 2013

We stayed in the deluxe 2 bedroom suite, which was fabulous. It was large well laid out, well appointed, comfortable, great views and quiet. The beach was beautiful, but watch your toes as chunks of coral lurk in the sand waiting to stub. Pools were nice, and the waterpark superb. Great food abounds, but be prepared to pay a premium. The dolphin and sea lion experiences were great, the animals are well trained, friendly and everyone walks away with a smile.

I have a few complaints: one morning, there was no hot water, it was fixed by the time we returned from breakfast, but not really acceptable; why charge for wifi? I don't get it, at the prices we were paying: service was unacceptably slow, especially at Mosiac, it seems "island time" means "we know we're getting a 15% tip anyway, so why rush?; finally, the worst part of the reef is that many of the destinations are at the other side of the resort which is a long walk, I would not have minded the walk if I did not have to walk through the smoky casino with my kids so many times. There should be a smoke free passageway to the restaurants and theater in the Beach Towers.

The reef is the best choice. I went for a friends wedding and even their sweet wasn't as nice as our regular room at the reef. Foodstore.com was more than amazing!!!! We had a bad delay and they sent me a text about my delivery and if I'd still like it. They informed me they would leave it with the front desk and wished me a safe flight. The food was perfect. I did fruit, breakfast sausage, eggs, water, juice and liquor. I would also recommend http://www.bahamaboattours.com/. He was AMAZING!! Words can't express how wonderful he was and the service he gave. I probably wouldn't go back to the Atlantis because it is too commercial but I would go back for Carl at http://www.bahamaboattours.com/. Overall, staff is friendly but it's too commercial. Too many people for what you pay. The other side of the resort (by the water slides) is even worse. I tell people it's like Vegas and Disneyland on a tropical island.

We stayed in the Reef towers which is actually the timeshare portion of the resort. The rooms were very nice. Large bathroom, nice king bed, sofa, small kitchen, balcony. Resort staff very nice, pools awesome, especially the adult only cove pool, but you have to pay extra to use it. Everything is way overpriced, so expect to easily pay $100 plus for every dinner if you like good food. Lots of good restaurants, but again the good ones are very expensive. Not sure if we will return to Atlantis. Other choices are just as nice, if not nicer, and less expensive.

Nothng except wonderful. Check in was a breeze; the view was spectacular and the service was top notch. We stayed for 5 days. On the first night we stayed at another hotel simple because we were arriving late and decided to not spend the extra to just sleep when we could use the cash for more enjoyable things. Well let's just say that other hotel only helped to make the Reef even more remarkable. It has been just over a year since we stayed at the Reef (little late writing the review...sorry) but I still compare other hotels to the Reef and nothing compares. The bed was extremely comfortable and I have back issues so that is a must. The bathroom and room itself was spacious and extremely clean. We asked for an upper level corner room for a better view but it also had an corner balcony. After checking with other reviews we knew eating out would be pricey so having the ktichenette allowed us to eat breakfast and a sandwich in the room, plus we were able to keep our beverages cold. BIG TIP.. Foodstogo.com!! We ordered our food to be sent to the room. Since we were not sure how it would keep the cold items cold we waited until we arrived so remember it takes 24 hrs advance notice. But the hotel will store cold items in their refridgerator storage. So next time I will pre-order to have items there upon arrival. And the price is the same as the local store and its much cheaper to eat a couple of meals in the room. Plus they even have alcoholic beverages, again cheaper than buying them! Now back to the room and resort. We went in January 2012 and it was cool... too cool for the ocean but the pool was heated. And the Reef is excusive to only Reef and Cove guest so the other guest at the Atlantis cannot come or use it or its facilities. Finally, on the day we left we had a late flight so they offer to store the luggage and accommodations to change. They have thought of it all and it shows. It was very cool a couple of days but that is a chance you take when traveling in January. But overall it was a dream vacation at the best hotel I have ever stayed in!!!

Room Tip: Upper level - corner room. And if it an anniversary or special vacation email ahead to let them kno...

This was our fourth trip to the Reef Atlantis It is always a unique experience and the children love it. The water park has no peer and the rapids river and slides are phenomenal. our other three trips have been in the summer, but this one was in February. The resort seemed to be understaffed and the shuttle bus service was extremely slow.
We had a two bedroom ocean view suite which had a few maintenance issues, like sinks that drained slowly and TV remotes that did not work. At a cost of over $2,000 per night, we expected better.
The restaurants were overbooked and reservations were hard to get. The food was very good, but for the price paid, we expected excellent. The service in the restaurants was slow.
The golf was great and the course in great shape.
Will we go back? Darn tootin'! It is too unique not to.

So your trip to The Reef Atlantis goes smoothly, call ahead and reserve Cheryl Ferguson's (don't mistake for Sandra) Taxi Service. Her husband, Craig was happily waiting for us at the airport. He didn't hesitate to start giving us the island's history, and pointed out places of interest. He also made a dinner reservation from the car that first night for us, and picked us up at the hotel! Can't say enough about Craig! Also stopped at the grocery and liquor store...very important! 4 adults stayed on 14th floor in adjoining rooms on the ocean side. Very happy with our spacious, clean rooms. Had a small problem with TV, staff arrived within 15 minutes to fix it.
We were looking for some peace and quiet, as we left teenage kids at home. Beach was nice, go to the adult pool for a quieter experience, as the reef/cove family pool was a bit crazy with flying toys and loud kids. We were expecting everything to be ridiculously expensive after reading other reviews, so we were ready, but didn't think it was so bad. We ate breakfast in room each day, had nachos or shared a meal at the pool for lunch. Frozen drinks were great! Didn't venture too far from the Reef/Cove area, but did walk over to the Royal Towers one morning and explored the aquarium. We ate off property 2 nights, and on 2 nights. We really enjoyed the Poop Deck right over the bridge. Mesa Grill was awesome and $$$$, but worth it for one night. Marina Pizza was good. The shops at the Marina were fun to browse in. Went to the lazy river ride one afternoon and had a blast. A bit crowded with cruise people, but still a good time. We didn't encounter any unpleasant hotel staff. I speak for our group, we wouldn't hesitate to go back to the Reef again! We were sad to leave!

Room Tip: Higher floors are better, less noise from pool area. Even numbered rooms face ocean.

Our family stayed at the Atlantis Reef for 4 nights over president's weekend. We had a 1 bedroom suite with an Ocean View. The view was fantastic and the room was large and comfortable. For the price though I expected it to be a bit more kept up. There were stains on the couch cushions and chairs and scratches on the tables. They also seemed to never hose down the balconies because we quickly learned that if you walk out on it with bare feet they got really dirty and black. There was a nice little kitchen with a full refrigerator, dishwasher, oven, stove and microwave. It was fully stocked with plates, pots, pans, etc. There was also a combo washer/dryer in the room. Our son had his own bathroom with shower and our bathroom was huge and very spa like. The resort was huge and there was lot to do. Our son said my husband became a 5 year old again with his fascination with all of the marine life which was really cool. Atlantis lets people from cruise ships by day passes to the property and because of that they either make guests get a wrist band or show their room key to access the beach and other areas. This was kind of annoying to have these check points everywhere. If you pay to stay a the resort you shouldn't be inconvenienced constantly like that. The biggest negative about the atlantis was that the food costs were outrageous. You know it is bad when Starbucks is the cheapest place to get a sandwich. I am a foodie and am not adverse to spending money on good food. The food was just average in my opinion and it was hard to justify paying $22.50 for a caesar salad or $18 for a burger and fries that was no different than one I could get at home. The Mosaic buffet was about $60 per person for dinner and although it was good I have been to much better buffets in vegas for less (wynn and belagio for example). We also ate at Mesa Grill which was good but not as good as the one in Vegas and probably 20% more than that one. It was just hard not to feel that the atlantis was just taking advantage of their guests because there are really no other options for you unless you want to take a cab and leave the resort. There is a small (but expensive, e.g. $10 for a box of pop tarts) shop in the lobby of the reef where you could buy breakfast food. We bought some cereal and milk and had that for breakfast every morning. The customer service was really good at check in and check out but we found several of the waiters to be disinterested bordering on rude. Not what you expect from a high end resort. A 15% gratuity is added to every food check so be aware of that. All in all the resort was fun with lots to do but I don't think we will be back because I just don't like the feeling of being taken advantage of on our vacation and I don't think the value is there for the price you pay.
