“Weekend Getaway without kids”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2013

We left our kids with grandparents and jetted away to the Atlantis resort Oct 4- Oct 7th.
We were supposed to stay in the Beach tower, but got upgraded to the Coral Towers, Lagoon Wing.

The property is huge, but the walks are not cumbersome as there is ton of stuff to do and look at on the way. The beach tower is situated away from where all the fun is, but the rest of the resort is placed more clustered together. You can walk along the beach, or along the acquariums or take the cool path through all towers and casinos.

Check In was fast. BE AWARE, they take $150/day pre-authorization for resort charges you will incur (and you will incur!... but about that later).
Our room (7204) in Coral tower was good size, quiet and clean. The remote only changed channels forwards, but it did not bother us 1 bit. Pretty much all rooms have the same level of cleaniness and size, so no need to fret and pick/choose the room. The view is amazing regardless of where you are.

Resort has 3 beaches - Atlantis, Cove and Paradise. Atlantis beach seems to have public access and there are droves of people offering jet skis, t-shirts and a lot of other stuff for rent and sale... and they will wake you up to offer whatever it is they are selling. These people have nothing to do with resort and resort is not in power to kick them out, of which they warn you many times before you get to the beach. The beach itself is amazing... turquoise waters, soft white sand... simply amazing experience. Cove and Paradise beaches are technically for The Reef and the Cove residents, but we went to the Cove beach 2 days and noone said anything. There are no vendors on these beaches and they are generallt quieter with fewer people. If you dont mind the walk from Beach/Coral towers, I would definetely recommend going there instead.

ENTERTAINMENT. Atlantis has an awesome waterpark with about 8 rides and a couple smaller ones for kids. It has a rapids river and lazy river (we went on rapids river several times and we liked it a lot). Most of the rides run through the shark tank, which is an awesome experience. The park is good for kids and adults alike. BE AWARE. most of the adult rides have a minimum 48 inch height restrictions and the staff are sticklers for the rules!!! if you child is 1/4 of an inch shorter, they will not pass. In addition to the water park, Atlantis has a glass tunnel through the acquarium called the Predator Tunnel (recommend going during the day as it is hard to see in the dark and the plexiglass is full with fingerprints). There are 11 pools and there is also The Dig, which is a big acquarium with a huge tank in the middle with tons of fish. You can go snorkeling in it at a price of $105/hour. Ther is the Dolphinarium (different fees for different programs) and The Casino, which consists of mostly slots, blackjack and poker tables. Slots go as low as 25 cents and Blackjack minimal bets go as low as $5 and as high as $50. There is also a huge Kids center with tons of stuff to do... its really cool with games/shows/activities/parties (almost everything is extra $$$) and I sometimes wished I was a kid when I walked by it)

FOOD/Drinks: The food and drinks here are EXPENSIVE... our average breakfast was (for 2 people) - $25, lunch - $40/$45 and late dinner - $50//$75. Speed of service is very slow (island speed they call it), so if you are there for weekend only, try to get food to go and eat on the beach/by the pool instead so not to waste time. There is a grocery/liquor store nearby, so if you dont mind eating self made sandwiches sometimes, you can save some money that way. There are a couple of cheaper pizza/hot dog places ($8/large slice or $7.50/burger), some people eat only pizza the whole trip. If you are in a large group, i would recommend Virgil's. They offer large size meals to share between 3/4 people or you can ask for lunch size for 2. Comes out a bit cheaper. Drinks are $9,50 for poolside cocktails and $7-$8 for beer. There are also several high end dinner restaurants. We went to Nobu and it was awesome (albeit over $100 for two + drinks).

Most of resort is cashless. You pay with your room key. So when they ask youf for $150/day pre-auth, they know what they are talking about as you will end up spending in that ballpark.

WHAT I DID NOT LIKE:
Exorbitant prices for food/drinks/entertainment and The fact that while they have anything and everything that you can imagine BUT nothing is included in the hotel price (apart from waterpark access, which is $135/per person for outside visitors). Want to ride watercycle, sure... $40/30 mins, want to snorkel.. sure.. $10/hour... want to work out in their state of the art gym... sure.. $15/per day (I HATED THIS ONE... THEY SIT ON AN EMPTY GYM AND STILL DEMAND MONEY FOR ENTRANCE)... minibar is.... very minisize.. and its one of those new fancy sensor equipped minibars.. DO NOT REMOVE ANYTHING AS IT GETS CHARGED TO YOUR ROOM and then you have to go and make sure it is removed)... want somewhere to put your groceries... sure.. $50/per day fridge rental and the list goes on and on and on.... there are so many petty little charges...THIS HOTEL IS A MONEY SUCKING PIT. Do NOT come here if you are on a BUDGET... you will either blow through it or will NOT enjoy the experience...

I would recommend this resort for couples and families with kids between ages 4-13. WHO ARE PREPARED TO SPEND EXTRA on top of what they paid for flight/hotel.
------

P.S. DO GO into town. We went on Sunday night to the local hangout spot called Fish Fry... enjoyed local food at Frankie Bananas (have some conch items from menu) and drank local drink called Sky Juice. They had a practice run for the Junkanoo Festival.. so that was a bonus.. overall, very safe and friendly and local (there were only few tourists there). Try to get the same taxi driver to take you home. Bahamas is a very relaxed and safe place and we will definetely come back.

It was my 4 trip to Atlantis.I stayed in Beach Tower , Royal Tower and finnaly i pick Coral Tower. And i think it was best stay i had in this hotel. It worth to pay to get good view. From my "lanai" on top floor i had exellent view and room was not different that in Royal Tower. What i can say about this hotel. I think it must see experience at least on time. Everythink what adult needs its here.Great restaurants night life and of course swiming pools. Lazy time and relax . Casino - i will say its is- average . Hotel - Royal Tower beatifull , Coral Tower -value for money , Beach Tower its still Atlantis.People are very friendly and helpfull . Buffet its not cheap but wort the money- I stronglly recommended to go there. And what make this place great - pools. Not only swimming pools but great slides, lazy river and SHARKS. Overall - its great and exiding. This hotel its not cheap. Charge are for everythink even for energy in rooms. Everythink mits extra. Its in average 40% more than advertise 22%tax and 15 % tips . JUST BE READY FOR THAT.

Room Tip: Coral Tower top floor with view for Royal Tower

Location was excellent and price for the room was very good. However, they do get you on taxes and extra charges. Also, the food is extremely pricey no matter where you go and ALL dining comes with a 15% gratuity added on. The food though was very good taste and quality wise. My room was good and clean and the bed was very comfortable. When you stay at the hotel you can access the water park for free as well as many aquariums and fish on site. My phone did not have roaming so I was left without phone coverage which was ok considering roaming charges would have been huge. It also kind of gave me a break from the outside world. You have 20 minutes of free Internet access per 24 hours in the library on their computers which worked out great and you can pay to access the wifi network (kind of pricey). Overall, it was a great experience since I knew before going that I would have to spend some money while there.

Just came back from a 5 day stay at the Coral Towers. This was our third time visiting Atlantis. Property is great fun. Restaurants are good but pricey, beaches are spectacular, beds are super comfy and rooms are very clean - don't expect 5 star at the Coral or Beach towers - but they are more than adequate. Both terrace views and beach views are nice rooms.
A few tips: don't be afraid of buying cigars from the guys selling them on the beach - they are authentic Cuban cigars and they are 1/4 of the price from the smoke store selling them next to the casino. Don't be afraid of walking over the bridge and eating authentic food at the fish shacks on the side. Extremely casual eating - great conch fritters - fantastic with a Kalik beer. Paying through the nose for food at the resort gets tiring after while. Buy your water and snacks at the grocery store over the bridge or across from the resort. Don't be a fool and pay $9 for a bottle of water - unless you are one of those high rollers you see at the casino. Best drink is Bahama Mama, and at only $9 not that bad of a deal for Atlantis standards. Great restaurant you can take a cab to ( we walked about 20 min) is The Poop Deck (over the bridge hang a left and walk aprox 10 minutes).
Best crab cakes and homemade mango salsa I have ever tasted!

resort gets tiring real fast. A great little restaurant that we found walking around was the Poop Deck (after the bridge hang a left walk for 10 minutes) it's at the marina. Best crab cakes and homemade mango salsa I have ever tasted.

visited coral towers for the second time this time was a complete nightmare. Money(500) in a LOCKED ROOM SAFE was stolen along with a piece of jewelry valued at 5000 .when managers were confronted with the situation immediately took the defensive accusing me and my wife of conspiring the situation. Security stinks here nothing is safe cops are unhelpful and to be honest, some of the biggest scam artist employees I have ever seen . don't book activities through the hotel they will know when you are not in your rooms. Atlantis Bahamas IS BY FAR THE MOST BEAUTFUL DECEIVING PLACE ON EARTH.TRY TO SPEND THE REST OF A VACATION ROBBED AND BROKE GOOD LUCK.

I asked this young lady, Kissie Brown, a photographer in the gift shop, how to get back to the cruise ship shuttle bus from Dolphin Cay where I had a beautiful interaction with a dolphin named Jonah. She gave me directions. But, traveling solo and not being a kid anymore, I didn't think I could remember the many twists and turns, stairs, and various markers to get back. And it was a long walk. All others in my tour group had left. I was feeling distress and Kissie said "Would you like me to show you - walk with you?" After receiving permission from her supervisor she escorted me to Coral Tower and a shuttle which I rode to the cruise bus stop.
I am grateful to her and would like her employers to know what a valuable asset she is to this hotel. I was blessed to interact with two angels that day - a rescued dolphin named Jonah and Kissie.

Was looking forward to a relaxing vacation floating on the lazy river. No one told us the Beach Tower was closed." Upgraded" to a Dolphin Villa. Batteries in remote did not work, then tv didn't work. Out for breakfast, came back and couldn't get into room. Battery on the door lock was dead!!! Electrical engineer let us in the room and changed battery. Same thing happened that same night. We were moved into the Coral Towers. Much better room. Lazy River was closed for renovations.Shuttle Service was horrible. Beach was rough. Fell in water, obviously in trouble yet guard did not come to help. Prices for food were outrageous - $3.25 for a bottle of water + 15% gratuity. Hidden room charges, everything added up to a very expensive vacation. Some staff members rude, unwilling to help, though staff at the Blu pool were very accommodating.

Room Tip: avoid the villa rooms on the ground floor - wild cats always around
