“Beautiful, clean and restful stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

We stayed at the Cove, 4n/5 days. Really enjoyed the Cain (at its DJ), the beach, and Nobu. Was underwhelmed by Mesa Grill. Staff were very friendly and professional. Got a surprise Experience Pass which gave some free extras at Nobu, Mesa, dolphin, etc. Free gym use if you use the spa, which by the way was such a nice facility - really nice. View from our room was great. Prices were a little more expensive than if you were at home, but this is the name of the game wherever you go on vacation. But it's not as expensive as it may seem. There is such a variety of choices and price points for food - for example, there's a quiznos at Marina Village. Several Starbuck stores/restos that serve starbucks. We hardly saw any kids, and it's not a couples only place - there's a wide variety of people there, it was a very fun and relaxing experience, not a corny couples resort which we were dreading. We are organizing a group trip for next year, looking forward to returning and enjoying the Bahamas again. This time we hope to venture outside the resort to see the local markets.

“Good Long Weekend at the Cove”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

Stayed at the Cove for 3 nights starting November 15th. Overall we were very pleased with the hotel and the resort. As others will say, this is like a large Vegas resort with a beach. There are numerous hotel towers. so having the exclusivity of the Cove beach and pools were well worth it. It was doubly nice that for the first 2 days occupancy was very low and we had the run of the joint.

As we expected prices were high. You should expect to pay $200 to $300 per night for dinner per couple, and 75 to 100 for breakfast and lunch. We found that by going to the Starbucks in the Reef we got a very nice coffee and breakfast sandwich for about $15 which is reasonable for this place. If you want to head into town you seldom save much as there is a $15 cab ride each way and the restaurant qualities aren't as good as the resort. We did this one afternoon and had a $50 lunch, but with the $30 in cab fare it was almost the same as staying at the resort. At the end of the weekend our total bill was $1,400 for 4 days (most meals, a spa day for one, internet access, a gym access). I only mention it if you are considering an all inclusive, as you will need to add something to the price of your room and flight. As an indulgence we were fine with the price but others may not want to spend this on top of their travel costs.

We ate at 3 of the dinner restaurants. Nobu was our favourite, followed by Mesa, and then the Seafire Steakhouse. The last restaurant might be a miss next time as the meal was nothing extraordinary. The Seaglass lounge was a good place for a nightcap, and you get private gambling tables in the evening. The Mosaic buffet was very good, but we only went once for breakfast. If you go to the adult only pool (Cain) it is very nice and you can get food and drinks by the pool which is quite good.

The spa was very good and decent value for a resort experience. The gym was large and well stocked, but some of the equipment was out of service and seemed to have been that way for a while.

The beach was very nice and private with individual sun shades. There isn't much cover on the beach so this was useful. The loungers around both the Cain pool and the family pool had nice cushions which was an upgrade from the other pools at the resort.

Atlantis is a big resort so don't expect a quiet intimate setting. The Cove does a pretty good job to get close to that, but you are still at a massive resort. It is walkable if you are able, and we only used the shuttle service once. The water park attracts some additional visitors from the cruise ships, so it can get busy at times (again, you are protected at the cove pools from this). The marketplace provides some nice shops, the casino is vegas style in the evening.

I would recommend the hotel to friends, but would warn them about the price so they understood what they were signing up for.

“What a dissappoinment!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2012

This was our fifth stay at the Atlantis, second at the Cove. It's been our annual sisters trip. The first time we stayed at the Cove in 2009, we had no complaints. This time it was a totally different story! The staff was downright rude and could have cared less about the service they provided. Every request we made, had to be made several times and most times we did not get it anyways. Our room was on the 16th floor. Staff left cleaning supplies in our room one night, we only got turn down one out of four nights, once got the nightly bottled water. We found the Cascades pool to be very dirty and staff gathered there speaking loudly each day for hours! Overall we just felt that we were inconveniencing them! There was no huge issue like I have read on other negative reviews here just overall mediocrity. So disappointing and such a let down.

Finally on our third day, we spoke to a manager named Sean who seemed very attentive to our concerns and promised to look into it and touch base before we left. Surprise, he did not! The best service we received was when we left the Atlantis property all together. For the first time, on our last night we discussed trying somewhere else next year. To me, a hotel like the Cove can only thrive if it's service is exceptional. The Cove's service no longer is. I know the whole property is under new ownership and it has hurt the service. The new large resort going up closer to the airport is going to do them in if it can offer better service. Save your money!

“Gorgeous views, nice pools, friendly staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2012

Loved our ocean-view suite on the 17th floor. Had a terrific view of the entire property and beach. The finishes in the resort or beautiful marble EVERYWHERE. Found the staff friendly, even off-duty. Mosaic restaurant had terrific food, but as many people mentioned before, food was very expensive everywhere.

Tip: Have your taxi driver stop by the supermarket before you cross the bridge to pick up drinks, breakfast items, snacks on you way to the resort. You can request the concierge to send up a small refrigerator to your room at no charge.

Room Tip: The higher the floor the better of course. If you have a sensitivity to noise (during the day) you...

“Great Option for a Certain Crowd”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

We just returned from a 4 night stay at the Cove. This was our first time at Atlantis and our 5th visit to the Bahamas.

Overall, by first appearances the resort is massive, almost intimidating. If you're looking for a small resort, do not even think about it. The difficulty we encountered was that we sort of had to navigate everything ourselves. We had a map and all, but it would have been helpful to have had a bell captain or concierge give you a brief tour. Especially being our first time there, little nuances like the wrist bracelets etc. would have been nice.

The dining options are by far and away the best part of Atlantis. HOWEVER, book as early as humanly possible. We did not eat at any of the non-reservation required restaurants. If you do want to eat at a nicer location, please be sure to book early. What perplexed us though was even when we could not get earlier reservations, we'd walk into the restaurant and find plenty of open tables. I never got a good explanation on that one. We ate at Nobu, Casa D'Angelo, the Bahamian Club and Chop Stix. All great food quality and decent service.

The room was very nice however did smell like cigarette smoke. As a smoker, this did not bother me. The halls also do smell of smoke. If you do not like the smell, you might have some issues here. Lots of smoking everywhere...remember you're not in the US anymore.

The pool situation is nice, but chaotic. We generally stayed as the Cascades pool in the Cove. The Cain Pool (adults only) is like watching a Vegas/Cancun-style pool. While it might be adults only, the only adults there are only so because of their age. Lots of wanna bes and fools running around. The Cascades pool is just fine if you can tolerate the presence of children. I generally have a problem with them, but they were all behaved for the most part.

Overall, the best way to describe Atlantis is Vegas in the Bahamas. The size of the resort is massive and the style is different from area to area. I would recommend it to families, however if you're a couple looking for a quite few days away, I wouldn't do it.

Room Tip: Odd numbered rooms over the 3rd floor in the Cove get you a nice water view of the actual Cove.
