“Excellent All-inclusive Getaway - Food, Location and Relaxation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2013

We had an absolutely wonderful time at the Riu for 5 nights at the end of January. There were four adults in our party, each were extremely pleased by the fine service, friendly staff, great food and top shelf adult beverages. When we check in I was not completely satisfied with the view from my room. I asked the clerk at the desk if she could facilitate a change. Without hesitation or suggesting it would cost more, the desk clerk changed rooms to meet our expectations. The room was cleaned perfectly an promptly each day. The staff really made us feel welcomed. Each morning we were greeted by name when we arrived for breakfast and provided a Capuchino which they made special for us each morning. Whenever we were noticed by staff while either at the buffet later in the day, on the grounds or at the pool, they made it a point to greet us and ask if they could be of assistance. Certainly we did some tipping to demonstrate how grateful we were, but there was never any pressure to do so and they expressed their sincere appreciation. We ate at three of the four specialty restaurants. Very well done again! The buffet was wonderfully presented, plentiful and tasty. Each evening they had a different theme. The close proximity of the casino next door at Atlantis added to the superb opportunities of things to do. The beach was beautiful and everything I could expect of a Caribbean feel and view. The only suggestion I would ask the resort to consider enhancing is their nightly entertainment. It was fun but, let's say it did not match the entertainment one would experience from a Royal Caribbean cruise.

Room Tip: To secure a good view of the pool, beach and ocean try and book a room above the 4th floor on the no...

Room was great. People were extremely helpful and friendly. Bar was fantastic with any manner of drinks. Food was better than I expected. Only negative was the internet speed- very slow. Atlantis casino was a seven minute walk.

Room Tip: All rooms have ocean view with a complete minibar and filled refrigerator.

Pros:
- Hotel was very clean. Staff was always cleaning.
- Food wasn't terrible which it usually is at all inclusive places
- Alcohol choices were better than expected
- Very close to Atlantis (If you like to gamble!)
- Beach is gorgeous

Cons:
- Room was musty (Most tropical places tend to be at least a little.)
- No waiters on the beach to serve alcohol
- Have to make reservations for the sit down restaurants

I went last week with a girlfriend for a 3-day getaway from the winter weather. She made all the plans so I was a bit apprehensive when I started reading the reviews posted here. I have to say we were pleasantly surprised when we checked in. The lobby is beautiful. The staff was great. The outside bar crew appropriately fun. Just be sure you gear down your clock if you're expecting fast service. You're on vacation so take your time. You won't be able to rush anyone and only aggravate yourself.

I saw the comments about rooms. The hotel is sort of shaped in a V so you're either facing sunsets, Atlantis and the pool (and noise from the pool) or the sunrise, beautiful sandy strip of sand, and a public beach (so noise from the boom boxes and vendors). Like I said. Be prepared. If you are, this can be a lot of fun. We were in 922 which faced the sunrise. We took our towels and strolled up the beach to the Ocean Club area where it was very quiet. Also went in for drinks one afternoon there. Also, just to mention. There was definitely an odor but I believe that is due to the humidity and dampness. You'll smell the same in Atlantis so... just wanted to mention it since there were several posts about it.

Definitely go across the driveway to check out the aquarium at Atlantis! Fabulous! We walked over one evening after dinner and then into the casino for a bit.

Skip the shows at the Riu Palace. Pretty lame. Also, be sure to go downstairs by about 7:50 a.m. to the room where you have to make reservations for dinner in 3 or 4 restaurants on site. We were able to book for two nights in a row and thought the food was excellent but don't be concerned if you don't get any reservations. The buffet is pretty significant with something for everyone.

We also took a walk (about 15 minutes) over to catch the water shuttle to Nassau to the straw market. Was only about $4.00 and maybe 20 minutes/half hour on the water. A nice break from the pool and beach and to have a look around. And be prepared to negotiate for everything. If you're not used to this it can feel a bit uncomfortable at first but that's the way it is.

Definitely would go again. Beautiful island, the staff was professional. Just need to find the best spot for whatever you're looking for -- quiet or the party!

Room Tip: We were in 922. Sunrise and sandy beach view but had some noise from the public beach below. I don...

I have stayed at RIU's before in the past and this one has seen better days. Although I would say the hotel service is impeccable, the vendors and motorized water boat vendors make this beach less than enjoyable. The constant smell of burning gas and loud motor boats really get in the way of one enjoying the beach, not to mention the public beach that is right beside the resort. Otherwise the views of the water and beaches are breathtaking. I suggest taking a long walk on the beach away from the resort to take it all in. The rooms need a lot of work too. Rusted hardware, smelly carpets, and small balcony's. This is a great option if you're looking to do the Bahamas cheap. One thing the resort has going for it is that it is right beside Atlantis and one can venture over to the casino at any point during their stay.

Second time visiting Riu and pleasant experience, but can see alot of subtle changes... Meals were great but the presentation and decoration were gone. Don't get me wrong it was Fabulous but I think a hotel should never cut back only move ahead!!! The speciality restaurants were not as great as made out to be. The reservation process is outdated and then after waiting in line and getting reservations, there was a lot of empty places. We met some friends there and one night had to eat in different places and afterwards compared notes as to the fullness of establishments and discovered we could have ate together!!! All on all it was a great experience as the staff went over the top to please us and we would go back again!! The location is great. Got to witness weddings on the beach and the discuss missing winter Storm Nemo!!!!

Stayed at Riu for five nights in March 2012 and fell in love with the hotel and Paradise Island.

Our room was in the 7th floor with an amazing view of the ocean and the pool. On the left side we were able to see the bridges going to Nassau. Everything was excellent in the room, had no complaints!

The beach was really beautiful, white sand and clear water. Had no problems getting beach chairs during our stay. We spend a lot of time at the pool too. The chairs were comfy enough and you were able to get an umbrella if you needed one.

The food was good Riu-quality. We ate our dinners from the buffet too and enjoyed especially the Mexican night with fajitas and nachos. Breakfast was plentiful and I loved smoothies they made out of fresh fruits.

I would have hoped WiFi in the room (was only in the lobby) but other than that, I wad really happy with this hotel!
