We just came back from a wonderful week in the Bahamas. Initially, we were debating on where to stay because last time we stayed at Wyndham all inclusive which was great. We travelled with 2 kids ages 11 & 13. We decided upon Atlantis Royal Towers. The resort itself is beautiful. You feel like you are in Disneyland. Be prepared for ALOT of walking, as nothing is in close distance and lots of people, and I mean lots.. all of the cruise ships everyday, people that just come for the day, etc. We did not take the meal plan, the reason being is it is the same price as getting the buffet everyday. So we were able to try and leave our options open. The week we went was a little chilly. When the sun went in we had towels wrapped around us, everyone said it was due to the hurricane. Our room had a magnificent view of the ocean, shark tanks, lagoon beach absolutely breathtaking, but it had a musty mildewy smell to it. Since it was not that hot out, we were lucky to be able to leave our door open the whole day/night. When the maid came to clean she closed the door and the smell came back, but as soon as it was opened again, we were ok. The room was very clean and neat, but in need of upgrade. Regarding the food....everything is very expensive and every single thing you buy they add 15% gratuity, so you need to be careful you are not adding to your tip. Even if you buy a bottle of water or ice cream cone. For breakfast we went to Starbucks alot the breakfast sandwiches were pretty good and saved us some money. There is a restaurant across the street called Anthony's was very good and the steak was affordable compared the $50-60 prices at the Altantis, not to mention we could never get reservations at the restaurants before 9:30..with kids that was way too late. We also went into town one night to the Fish Fry, couldn't believe how inexpensive and food was very good. I had a lobster dinner for only $22. The slides and everything else was great. However, most of the extra activities were for a fee. We are used to all-inclusive resorts where everything is included especially non motorized sports, here they wanted to charge us $40/half hour for a kayak, we usually pay that for a jet ski. Even the gym is $10/pp per day. The maid fee is $27/per day and another $10 added on per day, for I dont know what. The people were very nice and all in all it was an experience and you have to stay there at least once in your lifetime. There is another hotel being built Baha Mar, they are definitely going to give Atlantis a run for their money. If I had to do it again as a family, we would probably stay at the Wyndham/Sheraton Nassau where everything is included.
