This was our second trip to Atlantis and our first to Harborside. We have two small children who absolutely loved the pools, slides, beach and aquariums. Overall, we had a good time, and we'll probably make another visit in the next few years. A few notes:
1.) The rooms at Harborside are much nicer, newer and cleaner than at the Atlantis Resort. We saved quite a bit of money using the kitchenette.
2.) The main Atlantis Resort is not stroller-friendly. It became a real challenge to find routes to various places that did not require us to physically lift our stroller up or down a flight of stairs. We were also asked a few times not to do this and to take the nearest elevator or lift (that we had a hard time finding). I'm suprised that with how much money was poured into this place that somone didn't think of adding more ramps during construction.
3.) The restaurants aren't as good as they were a few years ago. On both visits, we only went to the buffets and the lower-end restaurants because of our small children. Quality and variety has declined.
We took advantage of the combo meals at the pools. Another pricing anomaly - if you order the hamburger combo meal with cheese, the cheese costs $1.00 per burger, and if you just order a hamburger and add cheese it costs $.50.
4.) Housekeeping followed an erratic schedule. We rented our condo from an owner so we were due one cleaning during the week. The housekeeper appeared at our door after 5pm on our schedule day. Since we were cooking dinner, the kids were taking naps and this was her last room, we didn't get a cleaning and she didn't come back the next day. We also had a dripping ceiling during the week (which was promptly fixed by maintenance). We requested that housekeeping come and sanitize the wet floor since we have small children and I hadn't brought any cleaning supplies. Housekeeping didn't come, but did leave a confusing voicemail.
5.) The shuttle service was excellent. We never waited longer than 10 minutes for a shuttle.
6.) Why would anyone want to buy a timeshare here? We went to the timeshare presentation out of curiousity and were shocked at the maintenance fees for these places. The annual fees for a little one bedroom and big two bedroom are $850 and $1700+, respectively. They charge double the one bedroom fee for a two bedroom! We've been looking at timeshares recently and this is the first time we've seen this doubling. Additionally, it sounded like if they don't promptly sell all of the new timeshares they are building, the maintenance fees will increase more to cover these (I could be wrong - the timeshare rep was a little flustered with our questions). I think it would make more sense to buy elsewhere on resale (Hawaii is even cheaper!) and trade into Harborside.
While I was put off by the obvious price gouging (yes, while it is more expensive to ship things to the Bahamas, I do believe Altantis is making a little-too robust of a profit off of us), we did have a nice time and we will probably return within the next few years.
