My wife and I spent 4 nights at the Beach Tower for our 30th wedding anniversary, from May 13 - May 17. I will give my review first followed by my wife's.
Arrival: Free shuttle from the airport to Coral Towers courtesy of my travel agent Apple Vacations. (If you are staying at the Beach Tower, the Coral Towers is the hub for all the shuttles and excursions.) The ride to Atlantis is about 40 minutes. It's scenic both in the beauty of the island and the local residences you pass. On the way, you will pass other resorts on Nassau, (Cable Beach, Sandals, Breezes, Crystal Palace, and dozens of smaller ones along the way.) Once you get to the bridge crossing, you're up and over onto Paradise Island, where the Atlantis Resort awaits you.
Check-In: We arrived around noontime, so the room was not yet ready. Check-in took about 15-20 minutes and your luggage is put in storage until your room is ready. This was an excellent time to explore the layout of the Atlantis. Here's a tip for you, get a map from the front desk and then just start to explore the facility.
The Layout: Okay, so you have that map in hand. Hold on to it! There is nothing to be intimidated about. The property is large, but you can navigate and not be overwhelmed. JUST TAKE YOUR TIME! Enjoy your exploration. Decide from the map what you would like to see and then head straight for that location. Along the way you will come across winding paths, bridges, lagoons, gazebos, pools, huts, and so on, but all of this eye candy is part of your exploration. I soon discovered that if you wanted to walk from one end to the other (Beach Tower to the Royal Towers), the most direct and shortest way is along the beach path which gives you an excellent bearing of the entire layout of this resort. The path is paved and hugs the beaches and coves. It's easy to navigate and walk, not having any stairs or obstacles to contend with.
The Room: My room was ready by 1:30 PM, so with map in hand, we went to the Beach Tower from the Coral Tower, staying inside where all the hotels are connected with corridors of shops and restaurants. Our room was on the 8th floor. The first thing I did was to look at the view from our terrace, and unfortunately, the view was of the hotels rooftops. The next day the Concierge called my room to ask how everything was. I said my wife and I are having a wonderful time, but our view was not what we expected. The Concierge said, "Well why didn't you say so." She told me to come down to the lobby in 5 minutes and she would upgrade me immediately. Our next room was on the 5th floor and we had an ocean and pool view that took your breath away!!!
Money: Allocate a minimum of $250.00 spending money per person per day. This will cover just about everything and then some if you are on a budget. Of course, you can spend more, but $250.00 will give you comfort and a little cushion should you have a desire to take an excursion or visit the casino or do a little shopping. This will also include meals and drinks if you are frugal. Some days I needed less, other days I spent more..... It's also a good idea for you to pack bottles of water, snacks, and even beer in your luggage and bring it with you to avoid the high cost of the mini bar. Oh, if you are going to drink and buy beer there, please try their local beer, Kalik. It's surprisingly good. In fact, I'm switching to it once my beer distributor orders it.
Summary: I will keep this short cause my wife wants to give a review also. I will just say that the beach is clean and fantastic. You can snorkel, Jet Ski, Parasail or just soak in the sun. NO PROBLEM with beach chairs, they're all over the place.
The food is great, check out Bimini Road, Johnny Rockets, Murray's Deli, Marina Pizzeria, and for great economy, Anthony's Grill right outside the Marina. Senor Frogs downtown is a fun joint too...
The Mandara Spa is a MUST, offering a wide selection of massages including a couples room where two of you can experience a massage together in your own private spa room.
Definitely go on a half day sailing and snorkeling excursion. The FLYING CLOUD Catamaran is the BEST! Great crew, fun, relaxing, including an open cash bar. Sailing back to port they play Calypso music, encouraging everyone to get up and dance. Jokers Wild comedy club is a gas....
All in all, DON'T WORRY, BE HAPPY!
It's the wife now.... This is truly Paradise. I've been to many hotels all over the states & Europe, and Ive never come across such professional, friendly staff. This place is wonderful not just because of the beauty of the place, but the wonderful people. We felt so comfortable. We never had a bad meal, the food every where is excellent.
My only surprise that I want to pass on is that when we went downtown to Nassau, every shop, every cafe, even Burger King closes at 6pm. So if you want to go there, where there are many stores, go early. We took a cab from the hotel, only $4 per person.
We had a great vacation!
