“Paradise deferred...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2014

There were many great things about this resort, namely the family friendly activities (Water Adventure, Rapid River, Aquarium, Shark Lagoon, Speedway), the adult opportunities to spend insane amounts of money (Casino, High-End Restaurants, Excursions, Dolphin Cay and Retail shops) and the endless things to do (jet skiing, swimming, floating on the Lazy River, classes on how to gamble, free scuba diving lessons, the marina). There were endless great photo opportunities everywhere and the staff is friendly. The resort sorely lacked proper upkeep for the amount of money it cost per room per night (priced at $589). I stayed in the Beach Tower which is considered the "value" tower of the seven. Our room overlooked a massive amount of asphalt and faced a neighboring resort - Riu. The hallways were a bit scary, the amount of walking required to get to anything became a chore and the rooms did not reflect the opulence you would expect from "Atlantis." There were many hotels stateside locally that were ten times nicer than this one. You are definitely paying for the location and the experience not the room. The side of the beach we were on was extremely erroded so when you were on the beach you were 100 feet below the resort, when you step into the water it goes from 2 feet of water to 6 feet of water in about four strides. I loved the jet skiing but the independent vendors who operated the vehicles did not maintenance them properly so while you are swimming on the beach you are choking on jet ski exhaust. Granted, if you walked or shuttled over to neighboring towers the beach was much nicer but I wanted to stay on the beach near my tower. There is no excuse to allow a resort of that cost to deteriorate to that degree and still charge the same amount of money. I suppose all the focus was on the interior, which was nice. The last thing I will say is that the resort felt much like being in Las Vegas, instead of things being all-inclusive, there was a charge for everything, there were "incidentals" placed in the room for your spending pleasure and there was not even a continental breakfast offered. Im not a drinker but if you like to drink, bring extra drinking money - oh and you need to tip everyone, the cabbies, the doorman, the bellman, but NOT the waiters! 15% gratuity is automatically included on the bill. Oh and if you want to eat late at night after everything closes, the only restaurant open in the casino is the very expensive Olive where a burger and fries costs $18. One last thing, we did venture off the resort to eat at the Fish Fry and the Poop Deck (another fish restaurant), they all charge $32-$45 dollars a plate, Conch is the Bahamian fish of choice, which I believe is an acquired taste. We wanted to go to a shopping place called the Straw market but it closes everyday at 5pm and we never made it - maybe you will...

Room Tip: Tell them you do not want a room with the window and balcony facing the Riu, if you are in the Beach...

I stayed at Atlantis 18 years ago, 2 years after it opened and was totally impressed. Not so much this time. It is a long walk to just about anywhere, no coffee maker in the room - or in the lobby, no workout room in this building at all and you have to pay to work out at the fitness facility about a half mile or more away. The pools and lagoons are still fabulous. Beach access is terrific, but lots of SeaDoo traffic, which is not a part of Atlantis, makes it loud all day long. Rooms were decent, but could use an overhaul. Beds were very good. One restaurant in the Beach Tower, Seagrapes, is a buffet and was pretty good by buffet standards, but who knows when it is open and when it is not. Voyageur is a coffee shop in the lobby that was never open.

I visited this casino/hotel while on a Caribbean cruise. So I didn't stay in the hotel but from what I read it's very expensive but beautiful views. The casino staff is very nice and the selection of slot machines and table games is on par with most casinos. I went in the daytime so it wasn't very busy and so not all the table games were open. I'm allergic to cigarette smoke but since it wasn't busy I wasn't uncomfortable. Low minimums for some of table games help those who aren't high rollers (like me!). But as I said, it was the daytime so if you go at night the minimums will be a lot higher. If you love looking at watches and jewelry (or buying if you hit the lottery) they have the most expensive jewelry store I've ever seen in my life there. Many pieces were over $100,000 and most were in the display window which is along the main walkway between the casino and the hotel front desk area.

We spent a week at Atlantis Royal Towers. The accomodations were average for $540 a night. The water park and aquariums were great. Meals were mediocre but extremely expensive, often we paid $200 for dinner at the resort. The biggest problem was that there were approximately $1,000 in various holds put on my credit card. One hold was for the room, which I expected, but it still hasn't been released after 12 days. The other holds were unexplained. I called the Quality Assurance department at Atlantis and Leticia told me that the holds would be released after 5 business days, it has been 9 business days. I will wait 3 more days and call again (that's when she claimed they would be released). For a resort that will only deal in credit cards they sure do cause problems. I guess I'm lucky, some of my traveling friends had their bank account wiped out. I will never travel to Atlantis again.

Room Tip: The rooms in the West Tower of the Royal Towers have the best view and are closest to the water park...

I had always seen the commercials and found it to be even more beautiful than advertised. There is plenty to do at Atlantis and it was well worth the trip. It was like stepping into a far away dream world.

I went here with my whole family, and a few other family friends. This hotel was perfect, and absolutely beautiful. We swam in shark tanks, went jet skiing, got our hair beaded, pet stingrays. It was the definition of paradise. I highly recommend it for anyone who wants an over the top, amazing experience!
