“don't go there”

Paradise Island Harbour Resort

we have just returned from our holiday in the bahamas at the paradise island harbour resort. Before going we read all the reviews, but thought we'd give it the benefit of the doubt.Believe me everything that has been written in the other reviews is true.on arriving at the "hotel",we were told by reception that we would have to pay a £105 surcharge for energy costs.what???.after reluctantly paying,We were then left to carry our own luggage up to the top floor.no help.nothing.Eventually we found our room, overlooking a building site.We were woken up at 5.30 the following morning by lorries reversing alarms. The rooms air conditioning leaked water, the windows were nailed shut and it stank of damp and mould.the door slamming was horrific ,and started from 5 in the morning right through to 3 the next.hence,we did not have one good nights sleep in the two weeks we were there. As far as we could gather, this was the place for hundreds of kids to come when they had graduated.Groups of up to 40 kids at a time came and went while we were there without,it seemed, being under any supervision at all.Rude, loud, drunk and disrespectful. Two sets of people we travelled with were so disgusted, they paid extra to be moved to other hotels on the island. If we could have afforded to,we would have gladly gone with them.Complaining about the room to the hotel manager got us a change of room 4 days later, but that was just as bad.The front desk was totally un helpful, the food most of the time was bland and boring.same thing over and over again. There is no beach,no hammocks(as stated)and the water sunbeds???disgusting.I could go on and on.I have never in my life complained about a holiday or a hotel, but i feel so strongly about this that i had to write this review to warn other travellers,DON'T GO THERE.

“Wonderful trip. Hotel well worth the price”

Paradise Island Harbour Resort

July 1, 2008 – We would definitely stay here again. It is not a five star place, but you aren’t paying five star prices. It is an older hotel (that is slowly being updated), located on the harbor. The harbor has large yachts and some cruise for hire vessels docked on the opposite side of the harbor.

We spoke with other travelers staying at different hotels. They all had both good and bad reviews, so it is always best to remember that this is a different country and different people have different needs/opinions.

Please read on:

Realistic review. We could have had better food, if we had spent additional $$$ eating out. We could have had a fancy lobby and updated rooms, etc., for much more money.
This was very reasonably priced and just what we expected. When we read many reviews, we took it all with a 'grain of salt' realizing that some people are never satisfied.

I just read reviews from people that stayed the same time we did. And we had a very different experience than they did. Our room had a balcony with a lovely view of the harbor. The tile floors in the rooms do get 'sticky' and sandy....it is tropical and the humidity combined with air conditioning causes stickiness. The maids did a great job, even accommodating our sometimes offbeat schedules, making up our room when we wanted.

There was a broken pipe in a hotel room and there was no hot water (just warm) for the better part of one day. They fixed the problem as quickly and quietly as they could.

There was a lack of fresh fruit at the buffet. But there were fresh vegetables and a moderate variety of foods. The poolside grill made great Cesar salads with either blackened fish or chicken; also great tuna wrap sandwiches to name a few items. The Harbor View restaurant has a limited menu, but the blackened Mahi and the New York steak were wonderful. My husband had a full rack of pork ribs and loved them. We had a bottle of wine with dinner and the service was great.

I didn’t drink the tap water, but bought a liter sized bottle from the gift shop for $2.50. (I don’t drink the water in any other country and often times not traveling in the U.S. either). The water in the buffet restaurant was filtered and tasted fine.

The pool noise was at a normal level, with the small children being the loudest. There were plenty of comfortable chairs and places to sit in the shade. This hotel is the location of high school senior trips during the months or June and July. Drinking age is 18, but we had no problems and heard no noise from young adults at night as they probably went into Nassau to party.

The hotel staff was wonderful. They were friendly, polite and always helpful. Starting with Vanessa and Erin at the front desk, to Benny our waiter, to the helpful bellhop, the hardworking ladies at the poolside bar (who would try and anticipate our wishes and pour a fresh draft of the wonderful Bahamian beer ‘Kalika’ before we had to ask, to the serving staff in the buffet area, refilling our water and coffee.

We never went in the hotel lagoon…but why would you when Cabbage Beach (listed on recent top 20 beaches in the world review) is a 5-10 minute walk from the hotel. (I read a review where the person said the beach is 2 miles away…I don’t know what island they were on, Paradise Island is only 1 mile wide and 5 miles long) The beach is amazing. Clean, beautiful warm, clear water, with baby powder soft white sand.

Please Note - Caution: At the east end of Cabbage Beach is what is called Snorklers Point. The tides change here and are very strong opposing currents at times, including an undertow. It is safe in the cove area, but please exercise caution (or don't do it) if you decide to swim around the point. We are experienced snorklers and ran into trouble here. We actually had to flag down help from a boat as we could not swim back in.

You can walk to Atlantis in 10 minutes or less and it is free to walk around the aquariums after 6 p.m. Staying at Paradise Island Harbour Resort you don’t have the crowds of the Atlantis but you have the same wonderful beaches and proximity to Nassau.

I just got back from this HOTEL!!!! and it was completly a Very bad Experience.
The first thing was the airline always late (Bahamas Air)
Then when we finally got in the hotel we were hungry we were expecting that it was a restaurant open late but no we were completly wrong. We asked hte front desk agent which he didnt even know anything, He told us that we have to cross the brigde to go eat something. We asked for a king bed they gave a 2 double bed room, we asked for a ocean view room they gave us a roof toop view and they gave us a smoking room because they didn't have anything else plus te room was disgusting.
So next day we couldn't take it anymore so we star looking for another hotel.
Another thing this "HOTEL" doesn't even have a beach you have to walk aproximaly 10 minutes Horrible don't book in this "HOTEL"

“A Let Down”

Paradise Island Harbour Resort

Our first trip to the Bahamas and we wanted a reasonable all inclusive resort. We had heard Paradise Island was the place to be so we selected this resort. We travelled in late June so no spring breakers. Most of the other guests were couples or families.

Overall: The hotel is old and run down. It's on the harbour (surprise) side of the island and about a 15 minute walk to the the Atlantis which you can see from the resort. It reminded me of the cheap motel chains in the states, comparable to a Motel 6 or Budget Inn. You will see signs of water damage everywhere. while we were there a large piece of the ceiling in the lobby came down from a leak on an upper floor.

Rooms: Big letdown. The bedding is cheap and the mattresses are old and lumpy. The A/C drips water and the bathroom is damp and dark. Many times we had no hot water and one morning we got rust water in the sink. The view was of the construction yard next door. We had a "standard" room.

Pool: Best part of the resort. The pool was large and free form. We spent most of our time while we were on property at the pool. There is a bar adjacent to the pool that also has a grill.

Food and Drink: Not too bad. The food was just OK. Nothing special even at the "formal" restaurant. Breakfast was by far the best meal with eggs to order and a good selection of other items. Lunch seemed the same each day at the buffet and dinner was hit or miss. You had to make reservations for the tablecloth restaurant early and we only got to eat there one night. It was only OK. The service started out good but once we were served no sign of anyone for drink refills etc. The drinks were fine and in addition to the bar at the pool they had a smaller bar in the lobby.

Entertainment: they tried. It was OK but nothing you would pay to see if it wasn't included. They had a "native" show one night that reminded me of the gong show. Other "entertainment" was poker tournaments, a guest talent show, piano music, and a 1 man band.

If we go back to Nassau we will not stay here. We'll spend the extra money and stay at one of the nicer resorts.

I hesitated to book this place after reading previously submitted reviews, but thought people might just be expecting too much for what they are paying for...WRONG!...This dump needed TOTAL renovation...furniture and draperies in rooms and condition of the bathrooms looked like they'd been there since 1960, never repaired or updated.... water stains all over ceilings....rusted fixtures in bathroom half out of the walls....water in bathroom sink and bathtub, on different days, came out BROWN...clumps of hair and dust on floors....ac vent dripped water in room, saturating towels on the floor, and had to be repaired twice in two days...3 elevators, alternated not working...toilets in restrooms in lobby overflowed twice in a week...two main water pipes busted on different days, each flooding out the lobby floor, also causing furniture in lobby to be replaced....food was limited in both variety and amounts - many times they didn't even replenish a food item - your tough luck if you got there too late....food was good in the restaurant, but limited choices and service was poor - understaffed...tons of high school graduates that were loud, drunk, disrespectful, inconsiderate...garbage left around the pool area was rarely picked up such as plastic cups, straws, beer cans, etc.....seaweed on the man-made beach rarely raked up.....entertainment was minimal and 'cheap'... small BARE shelved convenience shop in lobby was open about three hours of the day...pool was very nice, although the sand, seaweed, etc. could have been skimmed off the top of the water more often than once a day...most employees of hotel were very pleasant. Needless to say, this so called resort was totally disappointing. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone, not even if they were giving the vacation away free-- A. F. , Washington Twp, N.J.
