“Nice stay but not 5 stars”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 26, 2013

We stayed 4 days December 14 to 18. We got a nice corner room 2002 with a large balcony, on the Hartford wing with a sea view.. The room was nice but the bathroom is old and not worth the price. It was quiet at this time on the property. We played tennis every morning, they have 6 nice clay courts who was not busy at all. The property is very large and well maintened, you do not see many people. A lot of beach chair are available. The food at the restaurants is correct but for the price they charged you, the service can be improved a lot. The employees seem to do not care about you, their attitude make you feel upset. We have visited many nice places around the world, this is a nice place but need to improve their level of service.

The One&Only certainly lived up to its hype. The physical property was well maintained and the oceanfront rooms in the Crescent Wing were pristine. The Lobster salad, Conch chowder and Key Lime Pie at Dune were excellent although rather expensive but the service and direct ocean views softened the sticker shock. The pool was gorgeous and fitness center was state of the art. What impressed me most was the consistent level of service throughout the resort. We really felt looked after. I cannot wait to return.

Room Tip: Rooms in The Crescent Wing are newer, larger and worth the extra cost.

My husband and I are loyal One &Only guests (we spent our honeymoon at the One & Only in Cabo and vacationed at the One & Only in Dubai), but we were quite disappionted with our stay at this hotel, and it certainly did not live up to our experiences at the other One & Only Resorts.

The hotel is small, old, and tired. The service was at best average and at times, was unacceptable (especially considering the astronomical rates we paid). For example, while sitting on the beach, I asked an attendant whether they served lunch at the beach, or whether I had to go up to the restaurant. Without answering me verbally, he simply raised a flag on my beach chair (to show me I suppose that I could request lunch on the beach) and then just walked away. By way of another example, when my husband and I checked into our reservation at Dune (a Jean-George restaurant and arguably the fanciest restaurant on the Island) - we were shown to our table by a waiter that waived at us from 20 feet away and pointed at our table. The food was average and the service throughout the meal was below average. The rest of the food at the One & Only was incredibly expensive (which we expected) but it was not good. A salad with grilled chicken was $31 and was inedible.

We paid $900/night for an ocean view room and it was tiny. It was not much bigger than the king bed itself. The bathroom was also tiny: there was no separate shower in the bathroom from the tub. At $900/night I had expected much more - it was smaller than most average sized hotel rooms.

There were a couple of nice perks to the hotel, like delivering (inexpensive) champagne and strawberries to the room most nights, and offering a complimentary car service to and from the Atlantis. However, if I had to sum this experience up, I would say this: if you have to go to the Bahamas and you want the nicest (and quietest) place on the island to stay, then you should stay here (we went to the Atlantis a couple of times and that was busy, and crowded and loud). However, if you are looking for a One & Only experience like we were, this is not the place for you, and I would look at other hotels in the carribean that are much more luxurious, or at least much more reasonably priced.

We are still loyal One & Only guests, but would never stay here again, and would not recommend coming here.

I've been meaning to write this review since my husband and I returned in September but sometimes life just takes over. With that said, the impact that this trip has had on both my husband and I has not faded from our memory. It was simply fabulous. From the moment we were met at the airport until the day we left. Mind you, it is not cheap to stay in paradise but you do get what you pay for.... The grounds were fabulous, the staff was the best we have ever encountered and the beach was breathtaking.
One of the many things we loved about the resort was that it was close to the Atlantis and all it's ammenities but felt like it was a lifetime away when we were relaxing on the beach. We did not encounter a single person who wasn't ready to help and with a a smile. Trevar Sherman - Assistant Manager - was incredibly helpful when we decided to extend our stay and moved heaven and earth to make sure we kept our room. As for the beach, Corey does a great job managing a great crew. Jermaine took extra good care of us but everyone was delightful.
If you are looking for a vacation that will leave a lasting impression, this is the place to go. The One & Only makes you feel like you are just that. Thanks for a fabulous stay!

Room Tip: Upgrade to the newer wing and ocean front....heavenly

As another reviewer recently stated, we really wanted to love this place. We stayed at Ocean Club for four nights followed by Cove Atlantis for two. We weren't blind to the discrepancies between the two properties going into this trip, but figured that one would have more to appreciate for the adults and the other for our kids and therefore there would be something for everyone.

Check in was easy and our room which was a lovely ocean /beach front suite in the Crescent wing was spacious and clean. The worst thing about the room (and somewhat surprising given the cost) was the mattress quality. Soft doesn't begin to describe it. If you are a side sleeper you would actually roll onto your back because the mattress was that unsupportive. I am 120 pounds. This shouldn't have been a problem. My husband had backaches for the duration of the trip.

Staff was very friendly for the most part. We only came across one or two lackluster staff members and one of them was in the kids corner, where they probably don't do a lot of their business anyway. There were almost no children on this resort.

The thing that made Ocean Club so much less than it could have been for us was the fact that we couldn't use the ocean. Perhaps this was our fault. The winds were whipping and the ocean water was so choppy that the ocean was unusable. This was rain or shine. We knew we were at the tail end of rainy season but sun with rough water was something we never considered. So we had to travel to Cove Atlantis for beach use and even that was rough but not as bad as Ocean Club because the beach is somewhat protected by an inlet that slows down the intensity of the waves. So we never had the luxury and ease of being able to stay at Ocean Club for the day. The pools are less than average so they weren't a draw to remain on the property for the day. Was always a relief, though, to return to OC at end of day after madness of Atlantis.

Breakfast at Dune was a highlight and lunches and dinners were good too. Not exceptional but very good. Lawns were immaculately taken care of. Overall, for the expense of the suite, would not return. Just wasn't that mind blowing but very nice.

For less money, would return to Parrot Cay instead. The rooms were not as polished but the beach was unbeatable.

Room Tip: Would choose second floor crescent wing suite. View is fantastic and patios are enormous. Not the s...

Not sure if it was due to off season or bad service. But for the price you would expect great service. Slow and non existent is how I would describe the one and only. After staying at the one and only in cabo we expected more.

Management should fix the service fast

We really wanted to love this place. After having stayed at the One and Only in Cabo and being wowed -- our hopes were high for this property as well.

Things started out well. We arrived late afternoon and our room was lovely. The grounds are beautiful and immaculately groomed. The beach restaurant was very nice and the beach itself, although rather small looked enticing.

Unfortunately the next day, from morning until late afternoon an armada of jet skis, and banana boats towing screaming kids completely ruined the beach experience. The loud revving motors sound like an army of leaf blowers and spew strong gas fumes that you could actually taste. At one point I seriously counted 20 of these annoying crafts zigzagging right in front of the hotel beach. There was just no escape from them if you wanted to be on the beach. The fumes actually reached our second story ocean front room balcony making it unusable for us.

We were so disappointed that we went over to The Atlantis Cove for to see if one of their best suites would save the day. Unfortunately jet skis and motor craft were also in abundance there. It is also a massive complex very crowded with young families.

I guess with all of these mega cruise ships that arrive in Nassau every day, thousands of tourists descend on the small town and these water rentals are obviously a big business. Unfortunately they completely spoiled what we hoped would be a quiet romantic beach vacation for us.

I guess if management really wanted to do something about this they could pay the vendors to not have their rentals cross in front of the hotel or to at least have them go far enough out so the noise and fumes could be minimized.

This is an expensive place that would be worth it if not for this very real problem. We will not be returning.
