“Wanted to love it”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

We had heard so much about the service at the Ocean Club, we were expecting a truly unique experience. Unfortunately, the property is lovely, but not worth the price.
We were in the Crescent Wing, where the rooms are nice but small and not updated. At about half the price per night it would have been fine, if the service had been better. The rooms in the other wing are much, much nicer but I believe they are also much more expensive.
Our room safe could barely accommodate what little we wanted to leave in there. It was broken when we arrived and broke again during our stay. We had requested early check in and late check out but received neither. Our butler stopped by while we were unpacking to introduce himself. He said he would be bringing us fresh fruit every day, and would check on our ice supply twice daily so that we need not worry about that - he would be there for whatever we needed. We never saw him, or heard from him again. We had to call each day to request fruit and ice, until I mentioned to the consierge that I didn't "get the butler thing." We also had to leave notes for the housekeeping staff to replace shampoo, etc that was empty. These are minor complaints, I know but ....... it's not what we expected given the marketing for the property.
The food at all of the restaurants is very good.
There was also something going on with the staff and scheduling. The first couple of days we were there we would overhear snippets of conversation outside of the fitness center, in the restrooms and even from housekeeping, ( altho there is a $5 per person per night charge added to the bill for housekeeping so I wasn't real clear about this particular complaint).
Everyone who works on the property was very friendly, and helpful when asked. Again, however, we expected more. At the pool we had to request menus every day, then had to go to the bar to order and then had to return our own trays to the bar or wait long periods for the trays to be cleared. The service was not as attentive as expected.
So, bottom line, absent some kind of major upgrade and/or price reduction, it's not likely that we will be returning.

Room Tip: Crescent Wing rooms have not been updated.

“A nearly perfect stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

Just back from four days at the One & Only. My wife and I stayed in a Garden View room, which was very comfortable and quiet - the bed was incredibly comfortable, and the bath and patio areas were private and very nice. We stayed 'on-campus' the entire time, and dined principally at 'Dune', the beachfront restaurant. We loved the food at Dune, and the service was generally very good - everyone was very friendly, and the servers were attentive by Caribbean standards, but not by NYC standards! This is a first-rate restaurant and thus expensive, but we appreciated the pricing variety on the wine list - quite reasonable. We ate at the Courtyard Terrace one evening, and found the food to be very good, but longed for the views of the ocean offered at Dune. Contrary to some earlier reviews, we thought the pool area was terrific, and we spent four full days there due to the storm surges which resulted in the beach being closed (there was a drowning nearby during our stay, confirming the vigilance of the resort's keeping the beach closed!) - the pool was very comfortable and the staff was very friendly and attentive.

Complaints / suggestions:
- the gym has some outdoor equipment which is being upgraded - make it happen! Basically the entire (outdoor) free weight area is 'open' but being renovated - that is fine, but again, 'do it' - there is no excuse for someone paying >$1000 per night not to have access to equipment!
- the majority of our stay was perfect, but there was a minor, unnecessary nuisance as we left - we were told to get a car to take us to the airport no later than 1030am, so we booked our car with the concierge, and booked luggage pickup at 1010...at 1024 I went to check in with the bellmen, and they said, 'yes sir we are picking up your luggage at 1010 and will have your taxi here at 1015...I said 'great, but it is already 1024'...he said 'wow how time flies'...they finally got my luggage but the taxi didn't show til 1050!!! We learned from the driver that the bellmen call their 'friends' to arrange cab rides...this is really unacceptable and should be corrected.

All in all, a great stay, and my guess is we'll be back!

Room Tip: We booked last minute and had a garden view room - very private and quiet, but would likely opt for...

Dear One and Only Ocean Club Guest
Thank you for taking your time to write about your experience as it helps us continue what we do well and focus on where we can improve. My sincerest apologies about our fitness center not being 100% (the free weight benches have now returned from being reupolstered) as well as the delayed transfer to you experienced upon departure. As you said, it should never happen and we will resolve this immediately.
Again thank you for you wonderful comments and we all look forward to welcoming you back to The One and Only Ocean Club very soon

“Visit to the Spa”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 13, 2013

My friend & I were in Nassau for the day with a Carnival Cruise ship & decided to enjoy oceanside cabanna massages at the One & Only Ocean Club. I called & made the reservations in advance with no problem. Unfortunately on the day we were there it was rainy & windy so we couldn't do the oceanside massages, but enjoyed an indoor one instead. Afterwards we walked onto the beach & walked all the way back down to Atlantis & inside their aquarium & casino and then onto the Marina & shops before enjoying lunch at Anthony's. (Side note, if you want to enjoy a value priced meal while on Paradise Island, go to Anthony's! Look for the yellow sign when you cross the bridge onto Paradise Island).

“An encroached gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 2, 2013

My wife and I spent a week at the One and Only Ocean Club in Nassau at the end of February. You will love this hotel because of its ambiance & wonderful, I would say exceptional, service.

The hotel is a very special property. It has a classical Brit colonial elegance and sobriety that is very appealing for those who really want to relax. The rooms, even those non-suites with a garden view, as the one we picked, have ample space and a wonderful terrace with rest chairs and a comfortable dinning table and are impeccably clean. The mini-bar is nothing but mini. Generous half-pint bottles of all the best drinks, with the exception of wine, which is really below average throughout the whole in-house dinning experience.

The beach is absolutely pristine. White sand and those blues only found in Bahamas. One of the jewels of the Hotel is the Beach House, which allows you to enjoy the beach from the comfort of a terrace and in an open-air bar. Smokers are not discriminated.

The restaurants, room service, and food are not a highlight: sufficiently good not to become an issue, but very far from what you would expect from such a refined environment.

The Hotel has one of those details that define real luxury: one pool for adults, and a separate one for families. What this adds to your experience needs no comment. The pools are large enough to exercise but not as big to feel in an Olympic games villa, have a prudent surrounding space –close enough to admire the blonde in the bikini but sufficiently distant not to have to share into her newlywed conversation.

The in-house activities -swimming, sunbathing, tennis, great spa, and just reading and relaxing- are enough for people like us. In contrast, the out-of-property experience is horrible. The hotel relies on its partnership with The Atlantis, and other outside providers, to arrange activities such as snorkeling, sailing and fishing. In most cases you are bumped with a gang of strangers, which –how I will put it- frequently have other criteria than yours about dress code, manners and etiquette. To give you an idea, beyond the gate is like spring break in Cancun or an all-you-can eat weekend in Las Vegas.

Room Tip: Second floor definitely. No need for ocean view, garden view is sufficiently soothing and the extra...

“Lovely suite, lousy service, indifferent staff, scruffy pool area”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2013

Our suite was lovely, clean and beautifully furnished, the grounds and location are also lovely, sadly the rest of the experience at the One&Only was let down with indifferent staff, the breakfast service was a joke, both restaurants lack any sort of ambience with staff who need serious customer relations training. The shuttle service works well and thank goodness for some great local restaurants and the Atlantis, at least there was a choice even if not your preferred choice. The pool area is tired with broken paving, tiles and a dirty tide mark all around the water line and the service around the pool leaves an awful lot to be desired, the staff couldn't wait to pack up.
Certainly not a 5 star resort.
